The top two teams all season have made it to the Big Dance and rightly deserve promotion into the higher division for next season. La Trobe have won two of the three encounters against St John's and importantly won the Second Semi Final giving them the weeks rest. Both have a good mix of experience and youth and the big ground out at Vermont should ensure an entertaining game. The Students will be looking to Patten and Ganino to kick them to victory while the Saints will be hoping that their backline can play tight and contain them. It all starts in the centre and whoever takes control of this should be able to win the game, and the Saints will be looking to Ward, Dyker and Cachia to be amongst their best. This should be an entertaining match and with the advantage of the week's rest, La Trobe should be able to crown a successful season with successive premierships.

In the early game, UHS-VU should celebrate a premiership win over Yarra Valley.

la trobe university 17 9 111 v saint johns 15 5 95

university high school/victoria university 10 10 70 v yarra valley 11 14 80

tight first half. St Johns kicked away in the third to be 4 goals clear at the final break. But LaTrobe come storming home kicking 5 goals to 1 in the fourth and taking the cup by a single point!

Well played out guys. Good luck to both teams in D2!

Where was Rooster to give us some odds when we needed him - well done Burner!!!!

Burnside would have been very short vegemite. Very good player and along with Smith, the best / most consistent ruckman I've seen in D3 in the last 10 years.

I'm sure the tatts and hair helps him gets noticed too

Good win, even more amazing was the effort of the man who tied with him - 25 votes in a team that won one game must surely be a record!

Did you refer to him as "the man" through fear of developing an RSI if you opted to mention his surname? Good form from Dima, well deserved with a heavy tag most weeks.

Riddle me this Batman.

How does a midfielder from a team that won only 1 game in the season, and lost 12 games by more than 100 points, poll 25 votes in the league medal??

Are you guys serious?

Thats a 1.5 vote per game average.

And remember they were annihilated every week!!!

Getting votes in 100 point thrashings just doesn't happen does it?

Something stinks here...

You cannot be serious!

I'm bemused...and I certainly don't want to be!

If you're on the conspiracy theory trail, then you can add the winner of the medal in D2 - David West from St Mary's - to this strange list of winners for 2010 !

St Mary's were relegated, okay, they did win six games, but West missed three games and was only named in his clu's best on seven occasions and only two of those were the best - the rest were 4th, 5th or 6th. Now I know that pretty well all clubs 'cheat' on listing their better players each week, but ........

has any one got a copy of the d3 team of the year? Could you post it on here for those who havent seen it?

Fair point, but when a bloke playing on the pill, kicks 5 and has forty touches with a tag it is hard to ignore regardless of the score line. History will tell you- Brownlow included that blokes who get tagged week in week out get a lot of umpire love.

dont no where you get 12 games from it was 2.even in games we got done by 10 goals, dimma was still clear best on ground.round 2 vs yarra we lost by 99pts but dimma kicked 6 and would have had close to 50 touches.

Spotted tonight in a famous eatery in Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn was none other than our own Dimma eating dinner with Brian Goodman, Michael Sholly and four Division 3 umpires.

Dimma was happily paying the bill...

You mustnt have watched much of Dimma. He probably seriously had 30% of SFX possies every week. Each time with someone hanging out of his arse. Why dont you poll the opposition coaches and see if they are surprised?

Let's just have a closer look shall we...

Round 3 - Loss by 50 POINTS - Dimma - 3 votes - Are you kidding?

Round 7 -136 POINT LOSS - Dimma 1 vote in a annihilated team - That's an outrage!

Round 8 - Lost by 47 POINTS to LaTrobe - 3 Votes - That is a joke!

Round 9 - 90 POINT annihilation by UHSOB - Dimma 2 votes - Come on!

Round 11 - Loss to St Johns by 50 POINTS - Dimma - 2 votes - ?????

Round 13 - Loss to Latrobe by 25 POINTS - Dimma 3 votes - ????

Round 17 - Loss to Yarra Valley by 80 POINTS - Dimma 2 votes - Disgraceful

You get votes for players who influence the game...he had no influence in massive smashings but was given votes.

You don't get votes for trying!!

Disgraceful!

Burnside wouldn't be fussed because he legitimately won the medal BUT Maunder, Mahoney, Watts and Pickering (and their clubs) should feel rightly aggrieved!

Unless you were there you have no relevance. The whole club only got 32 votes FFS.

Admittedly he did finish only 6th in our B and F.... coaching staff were not always happy with his defensive efforts and commitment to team rules, but the umpires arent to know the intricacies of all clubs, they just see Dimma getting the ball 75 times a match.

While Mr Dimma's effort has raised a few eyebrows, maybe we shouldn't be focusing on his performances in the various matches but putting the umpires under the spotlight. After all, it is these blokes that actually decide who wins the medal, a footballer can only do so much. History is littered with players who should have won competition B&Fs but were ignored by the umpires !

I saw the Round 7 game and I saw the Round 9 game. From MY humble (yet experienced) opinion...there was no way he should have voted in any of those two games.

Finishing 6th in your Best and Fairest says it all...

Maybe we should look at your clubs P & L Statement for the 2010 season and see if we can identify "Umpire Payments" as an entry!

Apparently Guy Mckenna has no such issues with his defensive efforts, this testy relationship has allegedly played right into his hands.

Congrats to Burnside & Dima, not sure anyone who played or watched would argue that they're not the two best players in the comp. You're a flog Dee Three. End of story. Now go get a more ambitious user name.

Rooster you moron!

Never said he couldn't play. (If I did, please point out where).

He certainly goes all right.

Just questioning the voting system which allows a good player from a side consistently smashed, to accumulate 25 (yes that's right - 25) votes and poll votes even when his side loses by 130+ points.

If you see this as "normal" then I am happy to step down my comments.

However, any reasonable football watcher looking at the details of these votes would also raise this question.

At the Awards Ceremony on Monday Night, I KNOW there were a few comments raised and some D3 umpires questioned about their view.

If that makes me a flog...then so be it.

Apparently there are a few of us "flogs" out there that think the same thing...

Yeah a lot of Nazis thought the same too, unfortunately it didnt mean they were right.

Really nice of you to come to some of our games this year Dee Three.

Seeing you are a massive fan of the SFXFC, come along for the ride next season as we attemp promotion into D3 again.

As for the umpires payments, yes we do have to include airfares and accomodation allowances. I mean sh.t, cant expect people to have to travel out of the CBD for a football match...??

We will be back!!!
