I understand that... but this is for the team of the year. The forward flanks and pockets will be packed with the likes of Horne, McDermott, Whiting and others. One of my earlier posts suggested forwards.

If you were to put midfielders on the wings Id make them T Pearson and Monagle (not many games but pretty regularly in the best for a good team). Maybe Ortlipp would make it in. Pizarri and Cookson unfortunate. I dont know who 'Weed' is?

My bench ruckman would be Gall or McIndoe.

Irving doesn't play ruck does he? Hes not short but I've never heard of him going in except maybe as a 3rd man up.
He's a good player, but he cant do everything:p

Ruck Machine doesn't play ruck regularly enough for consideration.

I will put my two bob in for this one, as i have to pick the side.
You both raise an interesting question.

Is the fourth best rover in the competition better than the fourth best full forward? Is a key forward who has kicked 50 goals more important than say Thomson from WB who is one of the top sides top couple of onballers, and regularly picks up 30plus possessions- for that matter Dimitri or Russo or Pearson from SFX who are a side whose strength is onball. I personally tend towards picking a side that could play as a team so the second and third best key forwards/flanks would play in pockets, not the fourth, fifth , sixth, and the other pocket would be a changing onballer/ruck

what are people's thoughts on this?

On the note of wings. this is also an interesting idea. There are some very good specialist wings. Again do we pick the 4-5th best onballer ahead of the best wing? Have many guys in D4 played purely on the wing this year or are most of the stronger ones like Mongale mentioned above, who play in multiple positions, Glenn Pearson , Joel Lenders, Liddle, Camilleri, Kane, etc etc./

In my opinion the team of the year has to be a team that could actually work as a team, otherwise you would just have a list of the six best forwards, backs, midfielders and the four best utilities

that is my thinking

Duncan,

Maunder from AP is a stand out on the wing, has only played half a dozen games but is close to their best player.

Wang from Kew has played all year on wing, his form has dropped off a bit over past 4 weeks but up until then was excellent.

Saker from WB is a genuine winger as well. Trinchi from BC is also a genuine winger who gets plenty of the pill.

I'll take a possession getter every time, you can't do anything until you get the ball.
As for wings,Eley park and Centrals both have Sri Lankan blokes on their wings, sorry don't know the names, both very good but the bloke from Ely Park is a stand out and very quick.

In one of the more important games for MTL when they play AP this week (trying to hold onto to third place) and they will be without Rhodes who will be in Sydney this weekend, out also are co-captains Hickey (concussed) & Roberts (still inj), they will also be without Finkemeyer & Gibson (both inj) while Nicholls will be unavailable.

Gee, now thats some bad timing coming up against A.P (in great form) on thier turf in a battle for 3rd. Check some stats on the mentioned players and all have played only senior games this year, so they must be of good quality. This may make A.P's day a little easier now!
Anyhow good luck to both teams in the huge battle for third!

A wang on a wing, ha thats gold!

these statistics coming to light might make things a bit easier for albert park on their patch this saturday - seems these mount lilydale players are a class act.

stranger things have happened in football, of course...

I question that Liddle beat Rhodes on that day(both Rhodes and Liddle in bests). If he was that dominant it may have been better to ruck him all day - and have a chance to win the game !! Not being harsh but just my view on that game.

Roo only played on him sparingly... I'm not the coach!

However, he played all day on Irving from WB and limited him to a handful of possessions. Named best on for us that day, even though we did lose by 16 goals or so :)

True, not good having key position players missing with only a 3 weeks to finals . Stranger things have happened however for the Mountain Men to defeat AP this Saturday it would be extraordinary based on the 'Parkers' current form.

Did they reach A Grade? Awesome effort, but still a thug of a club (Generalising I know, but I am sure blokes will still bag StMary's, hawthorn etc for years to come)

Not sure but I thought Reservoir Old Boys folded many years ago (A or B grade Ammo premiers) and all the players went to Nth Heid and from that day the Bulldogs have been a power in the DVFL (NFL).

maybe the 'underdog' tag will suit mount lilydale this week - albert park have been 'up' for many weeks now & this could be the week their bubble bursts. mount lilydale are looking to sure up their position & this could be the game to do it in...

Albert Park must win this week also if they are to get the double chance.

WB other genuine winger is Gibson a genuine pill getter and kicks plenty of goals
