Commiserations to Kew. Was genuinely hoping they'd do alot better in finals than they have done. Looking forward to playing them again next year.

Saw thew first half of Kew vs Albert Park, it was probably one of the best games of D4 footy I've seen. Both teams were trying their guts outs and the skills were very good!

Bad Luck to Kew, Horne may have been the difference if he had played.

Do anyone know when the VAFA vote count is?

shouldn't you already have your invite RM, Have you wriiten your acceptance speach yet

Fair to say Kew will be pretty devastated - probably taking out frustrations on a pot or 5 at the Harp one would imagine...............early openers @ 11am?

WB look to have a strangle hold on the competition. Both teams with the weeks rest makes things pretty tough for the 2 remaining opponents.

Its an issue thats been bandied about a bit over the last few years - but what do posters think about the current requirement for players being eligible for Reserves finals?

My stance is that you should have played more reserves games than seniors to be eligible because at the moment there are too many clubs forced to leave blokes out of finals after they've played all year in the ressies.

Plus clubs get criticised for 'stacking the 2's' etc, whn I guess they are obligated to play the best 22 available.

I still believe WB have the best game and should be favourites.
But I have twice been the victim of a final five system.
Finish top - week rest
Win 2nd Semi - week rest
Run out for grand final having played one game in a month :confused::confused:.

There can be a staleness creep in.
One of the times I was effected, we one the semi to progress to the GF. Then the bloody prelim was a draw. We had one game in 5 weeks!!!
Got done by five points after being 44 points down at quarter time.

I feel for Kew. They had ambulance on redial and no bench in this day and age puts a tremendous strain on the running players. They had a final series similar to our year. Couldn't take a trick with the injuries.

Good to see one for the sinners on the weekend.
BHN Demons knocked over the SFX Saints.:D

Will the league make AP wear a change strip against SFX this week?
Wee were forced to give up our jumper on entering our 3rd year with VAFA because of clashes in our div. We were told that the team with longevity in the VAFA would always have the right to wear their own strip. How times have changed. Talk about 'Back to the Future'; or should that be forward to our past?
We were forced to give up our red number and roll out the historic brown and gold strip for the day. At least some of our older supporters enjoyed cheering the poo and pee to victory again.

Scott Norman and John Looker.
Both played reserves last Saturday but with the loss of the senior team will be ineligible to play for the Kew ressies this week.
Kew also have no other players available to drop down from last week's senior team.
Tightened restrictions may have made it real hard for them to get a team up for this week.
I like the principle of your thinking Oz. Just the logistic reality may be unworkable.

Not by my calculations. We will have 4 from saturday's senior side available for the 2's. I am sure the rule is no more than 10 senior games and must play 4 or more 2's games during the regular season. They all played their 11th senior game in the first semi .

Spy - four will drop down this week. Bagnell, Rees, Carmen and Dehnert

I hear what you're saying spy - but surely the league could look at those sort of situations. In any case - I think playing up to 10 games in the ones - and only a minimum of 4 in the 2's is too large a gap.

Too many genuine 1's players who have been injured during the year - easily qualify for finals late in the season.

I just think it makes it really hard - not only on the ressies regulars - but also on the 2's coaches who have to leave out the regular back pocket player or the 2 or 3 that come off the bench every week.

I thought there was a rule that if you played in the reserves in the first week of finals - you could do so in the second week regardless of the 1's result.

Maybe thats a cricket rule though!!

Preliminary Final

Seniors
St Francis Xavier vs Albert Park - Albert Park by 4 goals

Reserves

Kew vs Box Hill North - BHN by 1 point

I reckon your spot on Ozza, They should play more ressies games than seniors. Prob is though, BHN probably would have had to forfiet the first final due to their horror run of injeries this year. The cards just fell their way and that's football and good on em'
I think the rules are pretty ok now, but I think if you play ones in a final and your seniors are bungled out, you shouldn't be able to drop back and play ressies. That's poor form and I guess the penalty to the club would be a few pissed off ressies players walking?

Lakey in our situation, 3 of the 4 players played in the reserves final last week against SFX. They came into the seniors this week due to Injury.

I agree the qualifications are too easy. They should have to play at least 6.

You are spot on Lakey.
I think we would have just about got a team together for the final as by then several injured 2s players were returning as well.

It really is a case of every cloud has a silver lining. We would never consider playing a player like Desmond in the twos were he not badly injured earlier in the season. He chose (against club advice) to play in the ressies with an injury that should not have been ready before rd 18 at best. He just loves his footy and wanted to play with and help his mates in the magoos. At the time he started playing our 2s looked like forfieting.

We are all enjoying the 2s run, but would much prefer to have had half our injuries during the season and been allowed to have a real crack at senior finals.

What ever the rules are, someone will be advantaged and someone else will be disadvantaged. Us poor suckers just have to play by them.

I dont see a problem with that.hey obviously earn't their spot in the ones after playing ressies in the previous final. I reckon though if you play ones for the available finals, your seniors get bungles out, then you shouldn't be able to drop back to the ressies - your a ones player.

And yes, I reckon the balance has to shift.....to a 51/49% rule - whatever you play more of, you are......Unless both sides make the finals then it's open slather.....reverting to the 51/49% rule if the seniors are outed.
