My question Crazy is still what would happen with relegation/promotion? If the Premiers of all three zones were promoted but the bottom 3 in the grade above were (hypothetically) OW, Therry and Werribee which one of these would join the south east group? Would they just rearrange all three zones every year? I don't know how it worked back in the E grade days.
If the grade above was still a 10 team comp, is relegating 3 a good idea or no big deal in people's opinion??

The zones would be rearranged. This year it would have been no big deal with Therry only winning 5 games.

Expect JP to bob up in the Homeless game at Junction Oval next year and then on to the Gay Olympics. Is there no where this man will not go to get a kick?:D

Bad luck today Waz and Lakey. Looked like some of your early injuries took a toll after the long break. Our boys got a roll on and confidence soared. Real tight game till 1/2 time.
Great response from the guy carded late. Bit of humour was a great answer to the hecklers. Our crowd duely applauded his response. Shows the true spirit between these 2 clubs. Long may it continue. Real footy for real people.

Hey Spy, sorry for the delay in getting back. Have been too disappointed to reply. Proud of my lads though!

Yes, congrats to your blokes and all the other teams who made the second week. It was a great game for the first half, but the second half was a white wash.....and well deserved to your blokes. It was also great to see the two clubs so well supported by our many supporters.....

Regarding the ground - I can't understand why they allow a boring game like Cricket destroy a beautiful ground like that! ha ha

It happens now. I don't believe the gap between the grades is that great. 3 out of the 4 sides playing d3 finals have all been d4 clubs in the last few years. Eltham's side from last year looks quite similar and they are through to the prelim in d3.

An example of this could be (minus Willi and Hawthorn who look d2 bound)

South East

South Mornington
St Francis
Mount Lilydale
Bentleigh
Syndal
Elsternwick
Monash Gryphons
St Johns

Central
Powerhouse
Albert Park
West Brunswick
Swinburne
Richmond
Uni High
St Mary's
North Brunswick

North East
Box Hill North
Latrobe
Eltham
Eley Park
Bulleen
Kew
Dragons ???

New teams would be required but the Travel factor wouldn't be an issue. Don't shoot me down it was just an idea.

You have missed a rather important fact here. The Dragons is a nick name taken by the Box Hill North 3rds and 4ths.
Are you suggesting that our 1sts plays our 3rds twice a year?

The whole idea behind the 'Dragons' was to encourage more asian heritage youngsters to play our great game. Eventually maybe strike out on their own as a stand alone club.
At present the playing stocks are excellent at the Dragons. But the administration side of their development is still severely understaffed. It would be a massive turn around from VAFA to admit them as a club. Last season they offered Dragons sect. 1 of Clubbies as the VAFA stated position was any new clubbie side coming up had to come from sect. 1.

I would love to see them playing as a true seniors and ressies, but if you want to put them in a section of D4 pt 1 2 or 3, put them in a different section to the senior BHN teams and allow them to still be fostered by our administration for a few more years.

Now I have retired from cricket I agree.
Was it my imagination or did I see 2 wingmen from the respective teams line up on each other for the third time this year, the first 2 times in senior matches?

In reply to Waz's comment it was like our senior team that played at KB a few weeks back, that is correct.
But it is only because we had 12 ressies from Sunday who had been called up to fill the breech in the ones at KB.

How about instead of the MFL we have the Snakes and Demons league?
We could have Richmond and BHN play each other for the cups each week, be assured a GF spot and never have to worry about relegation/promotion.:p

p.s.
Waz could still be President though.

Much as I like Box Hill... I would hope that the Dragons would play at another ground and be a completely seperate entity before they make D4 level. They would need to prove they can stand on their own two feet as a club, so they probably wont be considered for next year... perhaps the year after.

Cricket.

A waste of a good summers day drinking and punting at the Sorrento.....:)

Don't think so. Our Wingers on Sunday played ressies pretty much all year. (Pumpa played 2 senior games and Sofo nil)

But our RR and Rov did play a few ones games.....

WHEN they become a club in their own right....when.....it will be a great success story.....One I am sure even kevin Sheedy would love.

If it is only admin that stops them, I am sure as the club matures and old players become old legends the time will come.

Very poetic!

As has been said already, the VAFA is based on the promotion/relegation system and any decision that compromises the simplicity of that system won't be taken lightly. If at all.

Moving the twelve team competition(s) higher up the grades than D4 makes more sense though.

i dare say the mounties would be in the nth east not the sth east considering they are the most northern club in the vafa, and i should tell u all now there will be no bulleen cobras in the vafa in 09

Cool... nice name change! Perhaps Syndal will change their name to Chadstone? I think it would give them more sponsorship/recruitment opportunities....

Seniors:

Kew Vs AP: No Horne, Kew down on confidence after a poor showing. AP flying after beating the mounties and with the memories of beating Kew still relatively fresh. It'll be tight but I reckon AP by 2 goals.

WB Vs SFX: SFX not getting much love off this forum. Are they the D4 North melbourne? They weren't tipped against Kew and beat them convincingly. I reckon WB would be fools to underestimate the Christians as much as some on this forum have. SFX will be dangerous but WB are deserving favourites and if they come to play they'll get up. I reckon they will. A fast-paced, hard-run, bruising encounter with the minor premiers getting up by 4 goals.

Reserves:

SFX Vs BHN: SFX to send the BHN boys off to join the seniors on the footy trip. Its been an admirable late charge but I think it ends here. SFX by 3 goals.

WB Vs Kew: I reckon this will be a grandfinal preview. Who goes straight through? It's a roll of the dice. 2 teams that know each other well and have a bit of history. WBs week of rest and the mood of the day as curtain raiser to the seniors may be enough. WB up by a goal. Should be a good match.

Are you mad? Richmond and BHN both beat SFX in the ressies during the year with sides less potent than playing this weekend. And the SFX seniors still have a big game to play... no way SFX win this game. If they do I'll be shocked, as I thought RC would have beaten SFX's twos this weekend.

And as for WB.. their ressies have struggled a little more than usual of late, so if they have any injuries they will be unlikely to beat kew.

That is the stupidest comment of the year. Mt Lilydale aren't even close to the North. Obviously geography wasn't your strong point at school.

Mt Lilydale would be the furthest club to the east and very close to the South East.

The furthest North club in the ammos would be rupertswood, however, they would be probably North West.

Get a map of melbourne and study north - east - south - west

Considering Lilydale play in the EASTERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE may give you a clue. Their ground is only a couple of kms from MT LILYDALE. Most of their players come from the EASTERN LEAGUE!!!!

Your old club is in the north and it is no where near Mt Lilydale unless you take a detour through Yarra Glen.

Please show me how Lilydale is the most Northern Club. I can't wait for the explanation!!!
