No, but you may think about checking his availability
Now Waz,just think of the advantages if you could recruit that certain bloke upstairs son for this week, maybe a good chance,as your club is known as RC.
Healing the sick;great for the injury list
Feeding the multitudes with a few loaves and fishes;good for canteen profits.
Turning water into wine;boy would the bar love that.
Re incarnation,a must for that last quarter comeback.
And finally, making the blind to see again;a few of our umpires could benefit from that one.

Yes, or he will be cruicified AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN!

But he always comes back for more......we all do!

Hail Mary full of grace and Ahmen.!!!

They are just 'volunteers' who get paid and they don't do the greatest job but they do the best they can, we can't play without them, you've probably never tried to do it, it's the hardest job in D4 footy and they struggle enough without this sort of criticism, try walking a mile in their shoes before you judge them, if you want to have better umpires then we'd have to pay more subs, and so on.

Heard it all before! The umpires need to be told the truth. They get paid ok for what they do!!! I have umpired before and never seen calls like I have seen from these umpires. They need to pick up their game!!!!

How have we found the Zero tollerance rule?

Zero consistency. I am yet to see it be implemented properly and as a result there are sporadic displays of zero tolerance, meshed indistinguishably with umpires copping minor barrages of abuse from all and sundry.

Players and coaches that worry about umpiring decisions aren't giving 100% to the team. Simple.

Agree.....to a degree.....

People make mistakes all the time. Coaches, Players, Umps, Timekeepers, Goal umps, boundry umps, committee's, presidents, canteen ladies, canteen boys, so on and so on. No one has ever gone troppo at an umpire for making "a" mistake because we all do. (We may go a little mad...but not troppo)

What people don't like is a "consistant pattern of mistakes". Yes we all have to shut up and grin and bare it, but when player safety comes into it....we ALL have a duty of care and obligation to ensure we do everything we can to ensure these matters are addressed and our players (Both sides) are protected from unnessesary (I know i spelt that wrong) injury due to neglegent and sometimes "partial" (As opposed to impartial) umpiring.

When the club supplies umpires, we leave ourselves open to either "partial" decisions or un-professional / neglegent conduct as they are only given 90 minutes of training to become an umpire. I don't particularly look forward to the day when a player sues because of poor or little protection of a players basic right (To be protected against rough play - and I will be the first to call them soft!) however I assure you that day will come unless proper and intensive training / coaching is given to umpires especially at ressies level. Overall its an easy fix, (More training, coaching and perhaps we have to pay more for impartial non-club affiliated umpires)
I for one would gladly pay an extra $50 or $100 per year with my subs if it meant a better and more professional standard. I am sure most would.

As for the current crop of umps (ressies especially) - Mate, they have the toughest job in football no doubt. Again, its a disgrace they are given so little training, coaching and support from the VAFA. Especially given the safety concerns that arise.
Sorry to bring this up again, but things don't go away until they are resolved.......its a fact of life!

So Waz, don't go so hard on poor coaches and players who are meerly looking after themselves and their players.

"Coaches and committee that don't look after their players are not giving 100% to the team!"

On the flipside - there are a few outstanding umpires in D4 at the moment that are great for the game - and they seem to understand the players more.

Santo & Mick (sorry don't know surnames) in particular are terrific on the field and seem to ensure that its all played in good spirit. They seem to really enjoy it and it comes out in their umpiring manner.

How have we found the Zero tollerance rule?

As far as the swearing aspect of Zero tolerance. The better umpires tend to give you a bit of a warning if you accidentally drop an 'F' if you make a mistake for instance. Whereas if you swear at them- or at another player its fair enough (under the current rules) that you get some 'time out'.

Its mostly been ok - But its a bit harder for our older players who are used to mouthing off a bit!! (No prizes for guessing who has copped some yellow cards for NB!)

Nuske was in a fine mood at the club last night after his No.2 selection :)
I'd say he might warrant the selection if he ever played 4 quarters ;)

I've never seen Irving, Horne, Pietsch or Bell and the one game I played against Rhodes he left the match after 2 mins.

Not bad RM, think there's a pretty handy bloke missing who you might agree with me after tomorrow's game. What possie does Penny play?

"Coaches and committee that don't look after their players are not giving 100% to the team!"

No umpire would complain about a coach asking him to protect the players, its the insinuation of cheating that causes all the problems.

Sudholz from WB should have been in there.
I'd have Viola and Pearson both higher than Cookson.
I'll be interest to see for myself how Horne and Bell go on the weekend.

Horne is better than Penny.

Again, its a disgrace they are given so little training, coaching and support from the VAFA. Especially given the safety concerns that arise.

Training is available every Tuesday and Thursday night at Elsternwick for those who want it and can attend. Umpire coaches and advisers dish out coaching and advice. Club umpires shouldn't be shy about approaching the regulars if they have any questions or are keen on self-improvement.

I guess the umps are just like players - you're going to get some who bust their arse twice a week at training and give it their all on Saturday, and you get those who just turn up for a run with their mates.

Horne is better than Penny.
Top ten players:
Why is there only one WB player in the top ten considering they have smashed every side? Surely they must have more players deserving to be in the top ten I also believe Kew and SFX also deserve more than one player each in the top ten!!!
