Special comments in my opinion are better less frequently and when they don't point the bleeding obvious out.

special comments is a terrible term for such persons. Infers they are "special", and not in a historically positive way.

A very good point is alluded to above. A large part of it is the fact that the producer instructs them to fill any dead air time with something regardless of whether it adds to the broadcast or not.

She's got into the bad habit of saying too many words to explain her point and before she has the chance to finish, she'll say something like, "I'll come back in a moment."

Perfect example of word economy where the majority of commentators whose role is 'Special Comments fail miserably.
 
you don’t get a plumber to do your accounting so why do we keep getting footballers to do commentary?

It’s not specific to Pearce, it’s all the ex footballers. Get some ****ing professionals
 
Was a gun footballer in her prime, but is absolutely rubbish on the broadcast.

Offers nothing, and doesn't have 'the voice'.
