Thomas will be a good player, but only when he cuts those stupid mistakes out of his game. That was the purpose for this thread.

For people to say you wouldnt take him, your stupid and that why you aint in charge of a footy club.

For a kid in his 3rd season he put some of his more "senior" teamates to shame.Yeah he made some mistakes but at least he tried to get things happening. The kid has some party tricks,May i ask what is wrong with that?Or do you prefer players these days to play like robots?
This thread should be renamed Josh Fraser. For someone who wants to be captain his effort in the 3rd qtr[i think]in defence where he went for the mark but didnt go for it totally 100% hence spilling it resulting in a goal to crows certainly wasnt something of captain material.

totally agree
thomas will never finish a game wondering "what if..."
he tries stuff, he has a crack and he's a star
but fraser, geez, he looked ponderous and gave the distinct impression he would rather have been anywhere else
i only saw second half, but he was shown up by moran, for starters, and he didn't seem to have any enthusiasm
really poor show, i thought

but first game, a long way from home, big deal

The kid can play and was a smart early pick by the Pies. He is probably under instruction to take the game on and therefore will make as many silly errors as brilliant plays. The older he gets, the brilliance will far outweigh the errors ( although I hope I'm wrong). Collingwood fans should accept that he does exude arrogance and therefore we reserve the right to dislike him with a reasonable amount of passion.

:thumbsu::thumbsu: but i wouldn't have him at essendon until he got a haircut

I think dale thomas is a futer star!!
i swear hes got all the telent... hes fit enough to play a whole game of football and hes only 20!
#13... A FUTER STAR!!:D

Dale needs to stop trying to be flashy and start doing the smart, % things that win games. Taking opponents on is great but if you do it all the time you become predictable.

He needs some composure/maturity in his game so that when he gets in a position to score he goes back and drills it rather than trying to be too clever. I am a bit concerned that the club has made him its face (for young fans anyway) too soon.

He will come out of it OK but he may have a few tough lessons to learn along the way.

Dale Thomas is a bloody legend, deff one of my favourite non-Tigers!!!!

You say he's a show off like it's a bad thing!!!!

His rockstar hairstyle and the fact he can back up his cocky attitude with pure talent makes him a champ :thumbsu:

while i think Dale has made a few mistakes. But seriously its footy...so unpredictable and decisions have to be made in a split second..Over the course of 2007 i think Dale wasnt playing a full team role..it was a pre-season match so he might have been trying to post himself as a new kind of player in 08.

He does not have a rockstar hairstyle. Im guessing you dont see many rockstars!
He will be ok, just needs to toughen up. Stop the backstepping and he has enough flair to do the unpredictable.
Reminds me of Houlihan at Carlton. Not tough, but can do the amazing.

FFS, he came 4th in our hard ball gets last year, 50+ from memory. HE IS NOT SOFT!!! I would love you to show me an instance when he has taken a backwards step. And to compare him to Houlihan is a disgrace.

Wow. As a self respecting non Collingwood supporter I hate Collingwood as much as the next person but this is pretty harsh. Thomas is a talent for sure. He's flashy and will never die wondering. Everyone's talking about the brain fade with the handpass but what about the absolute gem of a mark he took only seconds before that. I also recall him taking on a crows player just outside the 50 after taking a mark. He ran around him and from memory pinpointed a pies forward. We need more players like Thomas out there playing our game. He's exciting and I would glady have him in our side.

It's the NAB cup, they obviously don't play to the best of their ability.
Thomas is a wonderful player, and everyone who says that they don't want him on their team is blatantly lying.

Everyone has their off games.
He wasn't even near the worst.

Thomas ducked his head in a contest with Haselby in the Freo game last year.

In the same game, he took his eyes off the ball because he saw McManus coming at him and turned it over for a goal after going for the ball with one hand. Pendlebury did a barrel roll on the goal line in a shocking attempt to stop Pavlich or Mundy from kicking the goal. :D

Tarrant and Solomon got into Thomas for not going harder at the ball and turning it over.

Thomas didn't chase Kelly very hard when he got the ball out of the middle and set up Ablett's match winner in the prelim.

Your players deserve to be criticised if they duck their heads.

thomas is relatively exciting but he tries to do much with it and he gets into trouble more often than not. therefore i dont rate him. i rate murphy much higher and thats not a bias opinion.

Does he? Know him or played much footy with him?

Or do you just assume he thinks he's shit hot from the way he looks?

Spot on mate. Thomas is very modest for the most part (from the times I've had a chat with him). As much as I hate to say it, Pendlebury is the more arrogant of the two, though it's not excessive. - he's still a nice approachable bloke.

I love all these non-collingwood peanuts (just remember who the captain peanut is though) getting into thomas. He is a star in the making. 2 years in the system, after entering with what can only be described as a relatively slight body, and he has hardly missed a game in the 1's. Not only does he put his body on the line, have a look at some of the work he does off the ball. Very very smart footballer. And he performs on the big stage (eg anzac day game in 1st year, final in perth last year to mention a couple) Getting him and pendlebury in the same draft was pure gold. 1 more win in 05 and we would have gotten only 1 of them.
