I have heard of this - still don't understand it. I was happy to live thousands of kilometers from Hawthorn most of my life without supporting a team that was more geographically convenient.

My hubby was a blues man and still Is at the core but follows eagles - bizzare. I call him a bandwagoner
I understand it from Freo supporters - very parochial part of WA with a very rich footballing history. I'd suggest that a lot of them would've had a far stronger attachment to Souths or Easts than any of the AFL teams that existed prior to '95.
