Our request for two firsts will be tested compared to what Richmond get for Dan Rioli. They compare closely:

Dan Houston - 27- 168 games- 2 x All-Australian
Dan Rioli- 27 yo- 183 games- 3 Premierships

Both are distributors off half back- our Dan is a better intercept marker.

Most AFL observers say Houston is the better player but it is marginal. I think both are contracted for several years.

So enough of the "woe is us" posting here. We will get a reasonable price for Dan and it will be very similar to whatever Richmond get. Or he stays.

Seriously if North offered pick 2 we would be nuts to say no.
We could then either split it
Or my preference take the best player that fills a hole on our list..
Watch the Cows enquire about pick 2 if we did land it lol

I think Houston will choose north their contract offer would be far better then Carlton and I feel lifestyle is his main priority now,

If Dan was a few years younger 2 1st rounders would have been more realistic.

I think there’s going to be some disappointed folk on here when the final deal is announced.
It's not just him and his ability though, it's the fact he's contracted for 3 years. To pry that sort of player out,we should be making them pay.

Houston is a far superior player.

Rioli can’t kick it like Dan$
Only real similarity is the position they play..

Hope Norfs land him now fk Caltank

AA is an individual award, premiership is a team award.

Houston is a great player, playing for a poorly coached team. Rioli was a good player, playing for a great team.

By this reasoning Nathan Broad is similar - 148 games, 3 premiership defender.

Future first rounder could be pick 1.

With Dan, plus another year of development in all the high picks they've thrown at them I'd expect North to at least finish ahead of both Richmond and West Coast next year. They certainly aren't going to be making finals, but 13th or 14th (pick 5 or 6) is a decent possibility (though if I had to put money on any position it'd be 16th).

I'm sure we aren't getting a straight 2 first round picks though (whether this or next years in any combination). It'll be Dan, plus at least one of Soldo or Lukosius included in a multi-club deal to spin it that we got 2 first round picks, but either used one for Luko, or it's 2 first's in, Dan, Soldo and a second out (in that case effectively Dan, Soldo out for 1 first and upgraded a second round pick to a first). With potentially some pointless third and/or fourth round pick shuffling to make it more confusing and easier to sell as they got the price wanted (if you don't look closely).

There's absolutely no way that Port should even consider accepting pick 12 from Carlton (provided they acquire it from gold coast). Absolute minimum they need to give Port pick 11 and a lot more.

I don't see how he gets to Carlton unless Port back down on their trade demands. A north deal is much easier to get done.
Carlton are also in premiership contention, why would we make them better..?
Houston is exactly who they need.

Is there any chance that Chris Davies or Josh Carr or someone from the club could come out and state that Dan Houston is a required player, and won't be traded for anything less than 2 firsts?

Carlton can go get ****ed!

I’d say theres a 1% chance of us getting two firsts. We’ll accept a first and probably an upgrade of second rounders, something like that
There shouldn’t be. This is the strongest trade position we’ve ever had. Contracted for several years, has stated he’s happy to stay if a trade can’t be done.

The list of players who’ve gotten 2 1sts while being ooc or having 1 year remaining don’t embarrass Dan for talent.

Taranto is one example.

Hell, we paid a first and second rounder for Dixon and his famous glass ankles after Gold Coast literally told him to take a short walk off a long plank after publicly berating for his lack of standards, we paid a 1st and 2nd rounder for Ryder when he was not even close to AA, and had a ban hanging over his head and threatening legal action if bombers didn’t let him go.

Houston is worth so much more than those guys.

Of course what we should do and will do don’t always line up.

But it’s clear every other team in the league in our position would milk 2 1sts out of this trade in their sleep…. And if they were dealing with us the opening salvo would be butters + a 1st rounder lol.

Lol carn. 2 time all-Aus feted as best kick and best in his position player Houston v Rioli.

No, it’s not close. And Rioli is good, he’s just not near Houston good.
Future first rounder could be pick 1.

No it couldn’t.

No team in the history of the game has ever been as much of a lock for pick 1 as Richmond.

That Richmond side has been horrible and is about to be gutted unlike we’ve ever seen a spooner be gutted before.

I actually think they may not even win a game next year.

Then there’s west coast , who are so bad, and again, they’re losing some real key players. Picks 1 and 2 are fully locked up.

Where north finishes after that is anyone’s guess. That coach might have some impact there. If they landed Dan he makes them a much much better team.

To be honest I’m not sure there’s a massive gap between a Clarkson led Roos with Houston and a Hinkley led port without Houston. They would probably push us.

Why would Dan select a bunch of no hopers when he could go to a big club that plays finals?
My forlorn hope is when the dust settles, the Dees are again an option for him.
