CD's usual messaging is something like:

"Dan wants to get home to Victoria, and we like to do the right thing by our people, so we will try to facilitate that".

"History will tell you that it might take a while, but these deals usually get done."

That sort of soft commentary appears to have been skipped for Dan, which is a good sign from the outside.

If CD ever said that I would interpret it as meaning we will cave in.

This is one deal I do not want to get done. I want Houston to stay and see out the contract he signed in March 2022. If Dan does go it should be for two first round Draft Picks- accept nothing less.

Our list management team should start fights in the corridors with opposing list management teams !!

It’s becoming a joke, like most things happening at the club.

Hardly. Testing the market to see if we can get a premium return while holding firm on retaining him otherwise is great business by the club. Houston has done/said all the right things as well, won't be embarrassed if he is retained.

The joke is all on Carlton who have been crying out for him but refusing to make a reasonable offer. Also on Melbourne to be fair for shitting the bed when they had him in the bag.

How is it a joke?

We're respecting Dan's wishes and employing due diligence to explore trade options. Dan is aware if we can't get fair compensation then he stays in SA, which has been the club's position from the outset.

I'm honestly not sure how it could be any less of a joke.

Actually liked a bit of the honesty from CD, putting more pressure on the deal, insinuating the fact we've missed out on some players makes it harder for him to leave. That puts that real doubt into the suitors for him, that they're going to have no power in this negotiation and need to come harder for him.

TBH I am over this trade period BS, none of it makes any difference while we have the Coach we have. In past years I have been rapt with enthusiasm at some of our signings but in reality none of it has made a blind bit of difference and I cannot see any chance of us benefiting out of Trade Period until Hinkley is gone.

I have only one wish- keep Daniel Houston.

In 22 Games in 2024 Dan Houston had over 20 possessions in 16 of them. You do not easily replace players with that consistency.

North Melbourne clean up here

Picks two years in the future aren't going to be worth much at all. Even coming from Richmond or West Coast.

It’s hard to gauge their value, especially cause they are gonna coincide with Tassie Devils draft concessions.

Really this year and next are probably when teams will need to get in as much talent as possible, as picks will be even more diluted after father-sons and northern academies. That’s why the Saints are going hard at it right now - they gonna be in the wilderness for a long time.

If Dan does go, and we can get some young talent in, it could actually be really good for us. Hopefully we can extract a few established players over the Tassie years to match our age profiles = less risk in compromised drafts

Cool how we managed to get Tom Powell without North losing him. Have they got cloning technology down there?
