Comm games we should never have gone for in the first place.

Andrews government went in head first without doing adequate due diligence, this embarrassment is on his watch

EWL would have been a white elephant

Based on what data? It has cost the taxpayers approx $630m in damages to cancel it.

Yet the Westgate tunnel is now 3 years late, It was estimated in 2015 to cost $5.5 billion. The figure jumped to $6.7 billion when contracts were signed in 2017 and it has since blown out to $10.1 billion, according to this year’s budget papers.

Budget blowouts on projects aren't new nor are exclusive of Victoria and Victorian Labor.

No, they're not, but they seem to be a regular occurrence with state labor over the last two decades

In May last year the Victorian government signed a $1.7 billion contract for Conduent Business Services to run Victoria’s Myki ticketing system for the next 15 years. The Auditor General ripped through the Labour government's handing of the Myki fiasco budget blow out.

Then, the desal plant, originally budgeted at $2.9B, costing more than $6B and it's still a white elephant.

At the time there was a rather significant drought going on. The drought ending doesn't make it a white elephant.

It's now an insurance policy. We are prepared for the next drought and let's be frank the next drought is a case of when not if.

The business case was flawed because the liberals were in a rush to get it signed before the election.

The audit found that the EWL business case did not provide a sound basis for the government’s decision to commit to the investment and that key decisions during the project planning, development and procurement phases were driven by an overriding sense of urgency to sign the contract before the November 2014 state election.

Daniel Bowen has a nice summary of the the VAGOs report.

Binning it saved money. Because building it actually cost more close to 12 billion.

And it would never have fixed traffic congestion.

Cost blowout happen to both sides of government.

Hell the libs were in power in NSW for 11 years in NSW.

Light rail. Cost blow out.
Sydney Metro. Cost blow out.
West Connex. Cost blow out.

All that happened under thier watch. Seemed to be a regular occurrence up there too

The reality major projects have cost blowouts. That video from Practical Engineering explains why it happens well
Until you actually put a shovel in the ground everything you plan for is theory.

in all due respect I'm not concerned with NSW however I wont ignore the data from NSW as they've had their own issues with Gladis and the crime commission inquiry

As a Victorian Im over getting shafted by the government, regardless of Labor or Liberal, in power time and time again.

The debt and spending numbers contained in the IPA's report are able to be fact-checked as they are not a matter of opinion. So rather than go "teh IPA ?!??!" perhaps debunk the figures - if they are wrong, it should be simple.

Shouldn't the responsibility for clearing the PFAS have been clear in the initial agreements if they all knew it was there? Also, we should expect more of governments - it's not like a collection of people off the street with no alleged expertise in, you know, governing. Easily avoidable mistakes should be easily avoided.

it’s a solid point tp, but when you are accustomed to that propaganda crowd massaging information as many of us have as climate deniers you tend to take it as being par for the course.

Fair enough. For those who like to assume around here, I would just like to state for the record I am not a member of the IPA.
