Notice how its only the Essendon supporters who think Watson is underrated. Funny that.

It is funny, because peanuts like you (and there is plenty of you) cannot get past the fact we are the most successful club in AFL history and rate our players fairly and honestly.

FWIW Cross is a better all round footballer, but not by as much as people are saying. Compare their stats.....not a lot of difference.

Jobe Watson would be one of the most underrated players on bigfooty.

The only difference being that the Bulldog supporters were right as shown by the AA award for Morris.

Thing is that now Morris has gone full circle. He is now significantly overrated...no 23 in the top 50....haha.

I seem to recall the ''average'' Mark Mcveigh taking him to the goalsquare and tearing him a new one last year.

So because 1 person said Morris was the 23rd best player in the league he's over-rated

That makes sense

Daniel Cross is better, but not by much. Jobe IS underrated, he is a great in and under, some of the best hands in the comp. 2007 he had the most first possessions which lead to goals in the league. So far the preseason has shown his footskills have improved 10 fold, and IMO will start to get the recognition he deserves.

Cross easily.

Watson is a very important player for Essendon, his clearance work is fantastic but he is underated as he is remembered for his flaws not for his virtues.

Cross though is a class above, quick, damaging and also a great clearance player and ball winner.

That's generally how it works Einstein.

Essendon supporters have an appreciation for the fact that he provides the clearances that we drastically needed when our midfield fell in a hole 05-06. Opposition supporters just note that he is slow and has below average foot skills, they don't get the full appreciation of the benefit he brings to the team. A bit like the way I think Harry O'Brien is a hack, because he has zero skills and runs like a ******, but Pies fans love him, because he is a very effective stopper.

If everyone appreciated his work he wouldn't be underrated now would he?

You forgot to had in
Daniel Cross Contested Possessions 233 rank 1 in 2008
One Percenters 55

Jobe Watson Contested Possessions 171
One Percenters 26

You forgot to "had" in

Daniel Cross played 6 more games and their contested possessions per game is pretty much the same.

Staphy = Stat Fudger.

So Cross averaged 9.3 contested possession per game to Watson 9.1

and Cross averaged 2.2 of the one percenters to Watson 1.3.

This in Crossy's case also included the extra pressure of finals footy.

Of course Cross only outscores Watson by about 20 points in Dream Team and Super Coach.

So is there any statistical point where Watson is ahead of Cross?

Considering the inferiority of the Essendon side Watson does not have as much competition from his own players but he still trails significantly.

How does anyone rate Watson over Cross on their output to this point of their careers, even if they barrack for Essendon.

I don't think many do. Did you read the thread?? The only argument most Bomber fans are making is that Watson is being a little under rated by those who say Cross is light years ahead of him. The problem with peoples perception of Jobe is that he is dead slow. The good inside work he does gets missed because it happens so quickly, but when he gets it outside he looks like he is running backwards. For the uninformed Watson has been one of the top clearance players in the league for years.

Well to this point 31 votes for Watson. Why has he got any?

Cross is soooo much better than watson.

Cross is not known for his kicking but watsons shoe is a nightmare. I am still amazed that someone whos dad played 300 games has a son that can't kick......didn't Tim teach him the basics before sending him off to vic kick??

Cross is sooooooooo damaging, flag 2 is virtually in the bag. Go woofers.

cross easily... watson needs a kick up the ass. He has the talent just needs to show it more often.
other way round in my opinion. he works hard but he lacks skills(at least kicking skills) and he's obviously worked on them because he rarely screws up his kicks anymore.

If Jobe continues this form all year then the gap will have closed significantly.
