WAGS are the number 1 influence on where the player ends up.
Remember Jake Levers Mrs wanted to go home, as did Jordan Dawsons and Dangers.

Make no mistake, if Harley Reid stays with his current GF, he will move back to Vic at the end of his contract or earlier as well.

If the player gets a local GF, he is far more likely to stay compared to him having one from his home state.

Danger was very clear he also wanted to go back to Moggs at some point. We also had our opportunities to sign Lever and decided to not pay up. Sydney likely had similar opportunities with Dawson that they fumbled.

Create a strong environment, pay well and sell a reliable pathway to success, and most will stay. Start putting up red flags and they won't.

Levers' Mrs was working at a private school but going back to Melbourne every weekend.

He was never going to stay but we will be fine.

Charlie Cameron’s too.

Lever was offered a ridiculous unders contract, THATS why he went home.

There's a distinct level of paranoia in your posting.

Dangers Mrs was the driving factor. She wanted kids and wanted to be back in Geelong with her family when she had them.

She also never tried to have a relationship with the other WAGs, she sat and home by herself.

Danger was pretty clear on the fact the passing of PW was a factor too

I thought he said he’d already told Phil he was going?

I wasn't that excited with Dan's first few games last year. My memory is hardly razor sharp but I think he made a couple of shocker defensive errors against Richmond. The errors I remember at AO, but who against? Meh.

Anyway, then I was a bit concerned that he wasn't reading the play in a bit of a Brayden Cook sort of way. But yesterday he showed some really good signs. He showed far better signs of reading the play and getting involved strategically both on, near and off the ball. And that bullet goal was particularly good.

I note that Jordan Dawson played one game in his first season and just 4 in his second before finally getting a regular game in his third year. If Dan develops into JD2 then I can wait!

Very good second up effort after the pressure and noise after a quiet first game.

He’s going to benefit playing on the larger grounds, smaller grounds he won’t be able to find as much space with our star studded forward line.

Very clean with his hands and disposal. If he can continue to produce 13-15 possession games with his disposal, he’s more than holding his spot.

He also suffered from what Fog suffered with early on, some near passes that with better kicks would have hit him on the chest and another couple of shots on goal.

Building just fine.

Looked really good on the weekend IMO and character seems top-drawer. Really invested in the group and getting the most out of himself. I think high-HFF / Wing is his best position in our current side.

I don't mind him getting the odd rest or sub every now and then, but we need to keep backing him in while he builds confidence. Can't wait til he gets to 50 games.

I’ve heard that Rachelle, Nank and Soligo have gone the extra mile to make him feel included at the club - building a strong connection with his mates

Reckon those three have been massive for the rebuild of the club's culture. Very tight with Max, Bond, Dowling, Thilthorpe, etc too.

His game on Saturday was really good, and shows that hopefully he can stay in the side without being just a third wheel in the forward line. I really want them to keep him in the side, and get those games into him.

If he continues this growth, the WA clubs will be looking at the caps to see how much they can offer him.
That's our only real concern, him going home. West Coast is in his ear, and they desperately need someone like him for their rebuild.
They need to get a win with a good WA talent coming home. He will absolutely be first 22 there, and I think the Crows know that, hence why they are keeping him in the side even though he doesn't have a dedicated position at the moment.

We need a hot young local girl, or guy, I don't care, to get him more locked into SA.
I can see WC drafting his brother this year to try and get that to entice him home. They are very close by all accounts, and the possibility of playing with his brother might be a big draw.
He probably does!

I believe a huge advantage we have - certainly when considering the Eagles - is the crazy media situation with Harley R. Mass over-saturation in he last 18 months with him being front / back page of the paper dozens of times. The pressure he is under and cracks are showing. Total fishbowl. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him wanting out this year or next when contract ends. Boyd and JHF both broke initial contracts

Curtin doesn’t have any of these pressures and playing as a peripheral player with relatively low expectations compared to what would be expected back home

Seems like he loves the club and his team mates and confident he stays

Going in as Reid comes out he’d have a lot of spotlight/pressure on him

It was a shit situation that Danger left. But I can’t hate on him, he gave his all and like you said played 150 games. I respect Patrick.
And he was B&F the year he left. Tried until the end. Can only imagine what incentives Geelong offered him and his family to return home and he started a family etc so can’t hate on him, just disappointed as we know what a total gun he was.

Edit literally within a few mins of sending this SEN just chatted about Reid and they (Tom Morris the news breaker) stated Victorian clubs are convinced he wants out - possibly even at the end of this year

IMO a big positive in retaining Curtin when he looks at the probable expectations of a big profile move back home.

To sign a 2 or 3 year extension before next season starts is my best guess (hope!)

One of the best things we did was bidding for JHF with our first pick. Look at the pressure all these #1 picks attract and the guys picked right afterwards are mostly ignored. It's something more clubs should do when there's talent high enough worth bidding on that you know will get matched (Daicos for example).
