Hai guise,

Kerr was one of my favourite players in the AFL. My favourite type of players to watch are the tough in and under types, and Kerr is exactly that type of player.

His attack on the ball made him one of my favourite players to watch in 05/06/07.

However, in the last few years, it seems as though he has been completely ****ed by injuries. Whilst I don't follow the eagles like you do, I find myself questioning if he's still a listed AFL player at times (tongue in cheek). He has missed so much football over this period of time, I'm questioning whether he will ever return to full fitness and stay there for any significant amount of time, and what the chances of him returning to his best are (and not just for a once off match). Since west coast's premiership window closed, he has also struggled with the tag because of a lower class midfield compared to 05/06 that isn't able to help him as much.

From afar, I'm really starting to question whether he can get over his injuries and play top quality football again. I hope he does because I simply loved watching his style of football.

Thus, I'm interested to hear from eagles fans themselves where he is at. What are the chances of having a good run with injuries throughout a season? Can he get back to his best? From my angle, he seems to be approaching the, 'what ever happened to that guy' category :(

and no, this is not a troll.. keep in mind i don't follow him or the eagles as closely as you do

I too question this myself alot. Since 2007 i have seen him play two magnificent games. Im sure he has the ability to turn games still in him but honestly if nothing happens this season, he is gone.

I'd say your guess is as good as ours whether he'll be able to get over his injuries enough to hit top form at AFL level again. His style of play has really destroyed his body and if he can have a couple of good seasons I'd bet that after that he'd start to break down again - he certainly won't be one of those guys who can play at top form until they're 32/33 IMO.

PS - WC fan, don't let the Adelaide tag fool you. (backwards username is backwards).

He said that the previous pre-season gone by was close to his best in a number of years so it was a shame that he ripped his hamstring off the bone as he was starting to regain touch once again. As for his injuries, due to his playing style over the years his body has taken a battering and he himself said that he's had sore spots which he hopes will get better due to continued lay-offs.

Your guess is as good as ours as to if he will ever get back to his best but it certainly doesn't help when he is the focal target of the opposition due to the poor quality of the supporting midfielders.

PS. Come back to the soccer board.

Edit: Saila pretty much stole my thoughts. :p

Well we saw at the start of this year that he can still play quite well even though it was only for a couple of games. I dont think he will get back to 100% but not far off it. The time off may help him lengthen his career. Means he hasnt been battered for the last 3 years.

It's hard to say where he is at. He's 27 and plagued with injuries. He also has had absolutely no decent support in the midfield for a few years now, so when he does play he gets a lot of extra attention. The problem is, it's gonna take a good 3 years until some of our youngsters are really shouldering some responsibility and by that time he'll be 30. So like always, I'm gonna be pessimistic with Kerr for now. But I do hope he can get back to close to his best.

These aren't the responses I was hoping for.

I viewed him as the next Lenny Hayes, and that's what he was in a lot of ways. Sucks how he's had 3 consecutive seasons hampered with injuries. You just want to watch him play footy for **** sakes.

I viewed him as a Lenny Hayes type, and that's exactly what he was in a lot of ways. Probably as good as him for those few years at his peak. Sucks how he's had 3 consecutive seasons hampered with injuries. You just want to watch him play footy for **** sakes.

We're being reasonably pessimistic I think simply because it's been such a long time since we've seen him at his best for decent periods at a time that it's hard to envisage it as something to look forward to in the future. However, he has shown moments of brilliance even in the first couple of rounds this year, and if his return can correspond to some of our other mids showing a bit the whole dynamics of that group should improve in a reciprocal kind of way, and anything could happen.

Big call, but not outrageous really. People have forgotten how good Kerr's best is - he can turn games on their head in the space of 10 minutes.

Pisses all over Swan.

Ablett's best isn't Judd's best.

Kerr on song is just amazing to watch, just invincible.

Has great skills aswell.
Oh wait forgot about Judd. If we can count Kerr at his peak, which realistically he probably won't return to, then we can count Judd circa 2003/04. In which case, Judd's best > Kerr's best.

I really hate accumulators like Swan, just a glorified Priddis.

I've always said that at their best no Geelong midfielder bar Ablett could match it with Judd, Cousins, Kerr. They were just on a different level and we were very very privileged to watch them at their peak. Shame it ended so early.

Let's hope can have an injury and report free year, we've always been saying it but if he did he would win a Brownlow by a mile.

Kerr 2005 Brownlow runner up,
2006 Brownlow 3rd place,
2007 Brownlow runner up....
If not for suspension and disciplinary reasons, Kerr may have polled better in all of these....??? :thumbsu:
In 07 he carried an injured Judd, and a late starting Cousins (July) to lead the Eagles to 3rd place.
Hope we have a fit Kerr back in 2011, and hope he can show some of our kids how to shrug off a tackle as if there was no one there, and for a smaller player, how to actually make a defensive tackle stick... its been way too easy for opposition to shake off soft half-assed tackle "attempts" this season...

God he's amazing.

Best player in the league, by far, when at his best.

Just amazing.

Certainly one of them.

I remember a game between port and wc at subiaco in 08 or 09. Game was in the balance until Daniel Kerr decides to single-handedly bend us over in a quarter of insanity.

I wasn't even pissed at him, just amazed really.

Kerr has had far more problems than he should have due to having Priddis and Selwood next to him. They have zero hurt factor and this leads to more than one opposition player with a close eye on Kerr. If you recall, soon after that Port game, we played Carlton who had 2 players ready to tackle Kerr. Needless to say, Priddis and Selwood did nothing useful and we lost.

You could sub Ablett in and he wouldn't be half the player he is because of the same issue.

The sad thing is, Worsfold has done the same thing for 3 years in a row and it hasn't worked. If you want to see some real 'comedy'... check the Rd 1 2011 thread and see how many posters went with the Kerr - Priddis - Selwood midfield again ! Clueless.

Rojos job for a lot of the games was to sacrifice his game to harass Judds tagger, to give him a free run at the ball, (protection Judd doesnt get at Carlton) hence reason why he hasn't returned to his best since leaving WC..... And its the same problem for us now, as there is no one placed / able to intercept taggers on Kerr, and umps will pay a few frees, but dont want to look too one-sided and allow the illegal Kerr groping to go on!!!

It's because they're going for "Best 22" and as will Worsfold, at least for the first half of the season, until we realise we're out of the finals, and we start playing our kids in the middle.

One (or both) of Priddis/A Selwood has to be taken out of the centre once Kerr is back. They are good players, but they'll never win us a flag.

Unfortunately I don't think we'll see things like this happen until/unless we get a new coach in.

Yep, that was only last year IIRC. Was that the game where he kicked that goal running inside 50, sidestepping a couple and then banana-ing it through?

@up
yep last year against port :D

Check out that video, Kerry runs fantastically through the middle and Priddis just runs beside him.. kind of sums up the amount of support he has. Sure, he's there for the handball option, but he's not really providing any physical precense to support Kerr, and nobody really does.
