Bound to happen after suspecting that he has a bung shoulder. Get over it ppl. Gives someone else an opportunity to step up. I'd rather look at the positives now which means that players mentality psych will have to change and be prepared to work harder and more as a team instead of expecting Motlop purple patches to dazzle the forward line for only 2-3 goals. Sure, it's a blow but not a big one. He doesn't hurt the oppostion on the scoreboard.

Felt that North covered well after J.Longmire did his knee at the start of 1996. On the flipside, Junior has a chance to have an impact to our final month this season so all is not lost whereas the Horse missed the whole 1996 'Premiership' season.

btw... does this opportunity give the likes of LeCras to put his mark in our team ?

Big blow to this season's chances that is. Let's just all hope he comes back stronger than ever - bung shoulder's need not ruin your career - look at Judd.

Best wishes Junior!

Get the shoulder fixed up and hopefully Motlop will come back better for it.

Bad luck to lose a quality forward on the eve of the season , but someone else will get an opportunity and a chance to stand up.

Long term injury list for Motlop might give a bloke such as Perkins a chance to come up from the rookie list.

Le Cras , Turtle, Watson a regular game is there for the taking....Who will be the player to stand up for the Kangas!

:)

good talk....that makes sense to me :)

not fair to say that we rely on jnrs purple patches and that he hadnt hurt teams on the scoreboard, truth is he was heading for a big yr and will be missed. mainly because he had progressed a bit further along than some of the touted replacements we are talking of here.

the forward line preassure that he brought to our game, is not present in many of these younger guys.

a question though could archer end up playing longer stints up forward than were already planned

That's a fair comeback comment MM. But with some leadership/inspiration in the fwd line with Arch slotting in there occassionly (I agree) that is sadly lacking atm, I think others like Harding can 'lift' and see that the 'responsibility' is URGENT URGENT URGENT to get something out of him more than we have and perhaps CJ may become more potent with his impact. We still need to find 15 goals a game and Junior's steady progress would be fair to say could have netted around 50 goals this season. That's 2-3 a game still. We need Thommo & Sav to combine for 100+ I'd say now.

Bad news but I would prefer he takes care of it now than to let it linger. I feel like kicking someone's head in for not advising this to be done in the off-season... don't think he was given sound medical advice.

And to all those Motlop bashers, yes his shoulder is officially ******!

Nothing we can do about it, time to move on. Junior will have the operation and he will be better for it over the long-term. We have other options, they may not be at Junior's level but they now have the opportunity and the challenge to step up, particularly Harding who we know is capable of kicking a few goals a game.

I would much rather have junior in the side but we have to accept reality that in football you can't always have your best 22 on the track, we can dwell on the negatives or look at the positives and that is some of the other players will now be given the opportunity to step up and make it as an AFL player.

Perhaps the silver lining to the dark cloud will be perhaps Perkins elevated from rookie status due to long-term injury and allow him to play early in year where otherwise he would not be able to play.

Just heard about this aweful mess now and I just can't believe it. This is the season over as far as I'm concerned. He was our only shining light up forward and along with Wells our biggest improver. He was set for a huge year and I expected him to kick 50 plus goals as well as set up many more and take plenty of marks every week. We've lost that now. We wont get anywhere near the 8 now. It's over. We have no replacement for Motlop. He was in our top 5 players and by the years end quiet possibly would have been in our top 2. He can't be replaced. Our forward line will be the shambles now just like the back line. What a long season ahead it will be.
And to think of all the bull$hit that the club has been saying about how his shoulder is nothing to worry about and how they will manage it. Pfftt....
What a ballsup.
Who will Wells kick it to now???? He'll have to run all the way in and kick it himself because there is no one left now to mark it.
What a terrible disappointment to start the season with. :(

The trouble began when Motlop played for the Indigenous All-Stars in Darwin last month.

He was subsequently rested for the club's Wizard Home Loans Cup opener, but had his shoulder knocked in a match against Port Adelaide and again last week in the semi-final against the West Coast Eagles.

Funny, I seem to remember him playing against the Cats.

C'mon Angus. Get a grip on yaself. Anyone could see Junior's BUNG shoulder coming to this... as some have passed comment about being furious with the medicos advice... well, give yaselves a pat on the back. It's done now. Get on with life. He'll be back. Don't worry about things you can't control. Btw...on the flipside >> Essendon have to deal with no Lloyd for a few months. Suspected Broken arm while tackling Ottens of all ppl.

If it was Brent Harvey would you still be so cold about this disaster? Well in my view I would rather lose Harvey then Motlop. A player like Harvey can be replaced but Motlop can't. He is our only talented forward.
As for me getting a grip well I only found out about the news when I logged on hear and read this thread. I'm just a little pi$$ed off at the moment ok.

Just read the reports, I am gutted. I've got $200 on us making the 8 and now I'm not so confident.

This is terrible but you have to look ahead. 18 other hungry players now have a better opportunity.

Looks like Corey Jones will have to step up and get even more goals from the mid-field. Leaves really only Rocca that will be a decent target, im not completly sold on Thompson yet and how many he is going to kick. I think that the back line may suffer from this injury a fair amount as well as I think Dean was wanting to play Petrie down back he might have to play up forward more now.
My forward 6

Boomer Thompson Jones
Harding Rocca Petrie

Sorry you feel that way Angus. I think we all know how much of an impact Boomer has in our team and to have no Boomer is one player I prefer over Junior in the scheme of things. I wouldn't say Junior is our only talented forward. Sav is the goalkicking machine. Much more reliable in marking and accuracy. With CJ to step in and hopefully Shagga to play more at HF, we can get some structure going as a team instead of the 'only one talented forward' as you rate Junior very high. I don't. If he kicked 70+ like Farmer than I think we'd have a different view and be really in the dumps. We'll cover for him though.

Might be right, give LeCras a chance first up and if that doesn't work maybe look at promoting Perkins for Motlop's long-term injury, just to see how the kid goes.

I'm also with you on his impact and how much we will miss him. Sure he is our most dangerous forward, and his teamwork with Wells sets up a few opportunities during a game, but if we are so reliant on a HFF and his 35 goals a year, then we're nowhere near a final 8 side. It's not what forward lines are built around. This type of player is easier to cover than a key forward or defender.

I'm not that confident with him either, but he should kick at least 30 goals this season. Last season, I think he kicked 37 goals, playing with a team with a much worse midfield than ours and missing some games through depression. But he was playing in a team with no other real foward target. He should at least be handy and if he dosen't kick at least 30-40 goals this season then we could say he has had a dissappointing season.

Motlop is a huge loss for us and I am gutted as he was one of my favourite players and was probably our most dangerous foward this pre-season. It leaves guys like Corey Jones, Harding, Petrie and Brent Harvey (when he plays foward) to kick more goals. It may also give a chance for some of our younger fowards to step up aand push for a place in the side (LeCras, Chad Jones, McIntosh, Shore). Anyway, good luck to Motlop and I hope he comes back fitter, bigger and stronger and also hope that shoulder won't bother him anymore.
