C'mon Angus. Get a grip on yaself. Anyone could see Junior's BUNG shoulder coming to this... as some have passed comment about being furious with the medicos advice... well, give yaselves a pat on the back. It's done now. Get on with life. He'll be back. Don't worry about things you can't control.

In the article in the Age, some medico said that Motlop just got 3 bad knocks in the wrong spot in three consecutive weeks - it was just friggin' bad luck.

When you consider our rate of injury compared to other AFL clubs (and keeping in mind that we don't have the same facilities as other clubs), I think our medicos have done pretty well.

Perhaps the silver lining to the dark cloud will be perhaps Perkins elevated from rookie status due to long-term injury and allow him to play early in year where otherwise he would not be able to play.

It'll be the very fine silver lining - a spot opens up for another player. And that new player may not necessarily be a half forward. Motlop's injury might force Laidley to use Grant and/or Boomer more in the forward line, thus opening up a spot for Grima. Or maybe Grant moves to half-forward, Sinclair goes to the middle, and someone like Urch gets the chance to cement a spot on the half-back line.

Whilst I'd prefer to have Motlop out on the field, I think we should keep in mind that the shuffling of the side might open up a door for one of the other kids.

******** ******** ******** ******** ******** ******** ********!!!!

I feel really bad about questioning his threshold of pain after the West Coast game and after a few incidents last year. Poor bugger must have been in some pretty serious pain.

Sorry Junior. Heres to a speedy recovery.

What effect will Motlop not being around have? Is he staying in Darwin? Because I'm sure this will have a pretty big effect on Wells....
He's spending a week or two up there after his surgery and then coming back so I don't think it will effect Wells at all

THE HORROR, THE HORROR - DAVE ALLEN IS DEAD, THE BLUES WON THE WIZARD CUP AND JUNIOR IS UNAVAILABLE

I didn't suggest Perkins would play forward, he had a real dip over the pre-season and had a dip against the Eagles despite the team crumbling around him. His disposal is a bit wonky but he is adjusting to the speed of AFL football.

I think a definite smokey for taking Motlop's role is Sansbury, he was recruited as a forward pocket and has experience in that role outside of our club.

We might also get lucky and Shane Harvey or Harding might extract the digit and have a good year up forward. He will be missed but we have a few options.

Will this surgery reduce the range of motion in Junior's shoulder as it did to Carey's? Would be a real shame if it did as Junior's overhead marking is one of the strengths of his game.

What happened with Carey was that when his ligaments were sewn together they ended up too tight. The idea is to stop the shoulder from moving around to much in the socket. It should feel tight initially however over time the ligaments will loosen slightly. Carey would have had top surgeons working on him yet he never had full movement in his shoulder again.
Shoulder surgery is always a risk. Some people feel much better afterwards whilst for others they wish they had never done it. This risk factor is probably why they didn't fix Motlop over the summer but looking at it now you can see the huge mistake they made. He only got a slight bump on the arm and that was enough to cause a problem for his shoulder. Carey ended up taking most of his marks on the chest however this wont really be an option for Motlop as he is a lot shorter and would be easily spoilt from behind.

Don't expect Motlop to play a game this year because I doubt very much if he will, had the paper thrown in my face today with the story which is not the best way to spend a Saturday. Would have thought any surgery would have been discussed in the off season but you always try to use the no surgery option if possible, have had 2 of these and their a royal pain in the @rse and he's in for a rough time.
Wish the bloke all the best in a speedy recovery, he will be a great player in time so no point rushing him back this year IMO let him take the full recovery and be 100 % for round 1 2006. Any games this year will be a big bonus for us, come the last 5-6 games as some fresh legs and enthusiasm compared to the last 2 years might be just what the side need to squeeze that last position in the eight.
Don't write us off just yet people, a touch up and a trial loss to St K and there is some doom and gloomers already about to neck themselves, Wiz and trails are all pre season exercises and it doesn't matter what code what standard until the real deal kicks off I wouldn't be to fazed on what we have seen thus far.

Cheers all.

The annual choked-on-my-fruit-loops at breakfast story ...we seem to have at least 1 of these each year. Feel very sorry for the lad.

The big problem is our forward line is now down 40ish goals for this year...which means whoever replaces him, will need to kick/create this many for the team to just break-even on points-for....or our defence will need to tighten up by 2-3 goals per game.

I'm expecting Eddie Sansbury to HAVE A BIG ONE this year as he has the knack to kick goals so whether JYD gives him a shot in the fwd line to crumb and create, then there is 30+ goals in it for him. Shagga obviously has to kick 40+ and either Sav or Thommo have to become a 4+ goal player each week for North to have any chance of kicking 18+ / winning score.

Bruno & Eddie now have a good chance to make themselves a part of the Roo Generation- a playing part.. not a potential part.

Motlop is having the surgery on his 23rd birthday.. what a way to spend the day:(

Go Roos
