The word rookie should not be used for this kid. He's got two senior premiership medals already,he's no rookie,he's a ready made senior player now! He will make Freo,Port,Ess & The Cheats look stupid for overlooking him on draft day.

Robert Walls love child. Pumped him up throughout saturdays broadcast.

Hopefully young Jack Watts appearance will take the limelight away from Daniel.

I remember the talk prior to the draft was that we need a clearance and contested possession winner to support Blacky but one who still had top-shelf disposal

all the discussion seemed certain that Rich was exactly what we were after and equally certain he wouldn't fall to #7...like everyone else here, i was absolutely stoked that he did

maybe his arm/hand/height ratio isn't out of the textbook but he looks a natural footballer...one of those kids that you watch him play one game and can't help but have expectations of

that said, i'm happy to see him with a media ban early on so there's no direct or referred pressure building up...he's a beauty, we've just got to be careful we don't overexpose him

peace

From my careful observation on Saturday night, it appears that his arms are exactly the correct length to reach his hands.

Have to laugh at those who think his "short" arms are some sort of physical disability - they're actually an advantage as it makes them harder to pin in a tackle (less to grab hold of) and easier for Bam Bam to shoot off a quick handball.

Champ says Rich is the new Judd
19th February 2009, 7:30 WST

New Brisbane coach Michael Voss has made a valiant bid to quell the rising hype on Daniel Rich after Hawthorn legend Dermott Brereton tagged the star WA recruit as the best “readymade” player since Chris Judd. Brereton likened Rich to the 2006 West Coast premiership captain and now Carlton skipper following his impressive debut for the Lions in their nine-point win over defending NAB Cup premiers St Kilda at Gold Coast Stadium last Saturday night.
“Daniel Rich is the best readymade draftee player to come into the AFL since Chris Judd,” Brereton told Melbourne radio station SEN.
“He will have the biggest effect in the quickest time. Others might go past him in time, but that kid is readymade right now.”
Rich remains an $8 second favourite with Sportingbet Australia behind West Coast’s Chris Masten ($7), who was his WA under-18s championship captain in 2007, in this year’s NAB Rising Star Award.
Voss had lit the flame himself on draft day last November when he opened the door for the stocky 18-year-old to play against the Eagles in their season-opener in Brisbane on March 28.
But he was far more guarded yesterday when asked about the dual WAFL premiership player, who had been regarded as a possible No. 1 draft pick before the emergence last year of Jack Watts and Nick Naitanui.
While initially seduced by the thought of having another Judd at his disposal, Voss was quick to call for calm.
“If we get the outcome like Chris Judd . . .,” Voss mused.
“I think that what he’s got, and we’ve seen him play now and most people have got some sort of recollection on what he can do, he has a weapon.
“When you have a look at Chris Judd and you look at unique players, they have a weapon.
“Daniel’s ability to be able to observe the congestion and also to kick the ball like he does . . . he just doesn’t kick it 20 metres, this guy can kick it 60-plus.
“He’s had so many expectations on him the last two years. It would be just great for him to be able to sit back, play footy, enjoy his football and get the most out of himself.”

That title is terrible. Putting aside the validity of his claim for now, he hasn't said that Rich = Judd. He just said that Rich will be a readymade player, who'll have impact at senior level straight away like Judd did.

I think that's the hope many of us have for him as well.

He will have the biggest effect in the quickest time. Others might go past him in time, but that kid is readymade right now.

I rate Dermie very poorly in his analysis of players as he has an extreme tendancy to exaggerate with respect to the player he is discussing at the time (both in the positive and negative).

Personally I would think there is also a largely debateable point of "Rich being the most readymade player since Selwood" being a more appropriate comment if Dermot believes Rich is as ready to go as he says he does.

I was lucky enough to hear Rich speak last Friday at an event and he seems to be an extremely focussed person. You can see he has a supreme confidence in his footy ability. I think we are on a massive winner here.

Dalziell also spoke and was extremely impressed with him, he came across as someone who knows how important it is to make the most of his opportunity.

2nd round of NAB Cup

The Lions’ boom recruit Daniel Rich was prominent early, but tired to finish with 13 possessions in midfield.

I saw some really good things from Rich last night, he is so good with those quick hand passes at stoppages. Really looking forward to seeing this guy develop into something special.

Lions coach Michael Voss said his side had played "poorly" and with "no intensity" but praised young recruits Daniel Rich and Jack Redden who he felt were his side's best.

Rich was super impressive against the Demons in the NAB Challenge finishing with 19 disposals and 5 marks.

Simon Black wants patience for teen Lion Daniel Rich

RISBANE vice-captain Simon Black has warned it will take time before the Lions reap the full dividends from blue-chip investment Daniel Rich. The boom teenager's much-hyped arrived at the Gabba has been followed by promising pre-season hit-outs that have been enough to suggest the club hit the jackpot at last year's national draft.
However, like any rookie, the solidly-built Rich is still coming to grips with the frenetic pace of top-level football and running out the full four quarters.
Black believes the more his fellow WA product is exposed to the demands of the AFL, the better he will get.
However he urged Lions supporters not to set the bar unrealistically high for the left-footer.
"He (Rich) has got a lot of natural ability but he does need to learn how to keep working for the full 120 minutes of the game," Black said.
"The talent and quality is there.
''You can see that.
"In time, he will only build on that and become a fantastic player.
''It takes everybody time to find their feet at this level.
"I know I am looking forward to playing alongside him and seeing him develop into a real top-quality player.
"If he could be at the club for the next 10 years it would be wonderful for the club and it will be exciting to have him as part of our midfield."

Supercoach

Yes, please
Daniel Rich, midfielder
Quite simply, this bloke should be in 100 per cent of SC teams for 2009. If you don’t have him, trade him in now. Racks up a tonne of possessions, is ready to step into the senior side early in the season and could have possibly gone as high as number one in last year’s draft. Depending on how he goes you can keep him all year, or can upgrade to a veteran close to SC finals time. Costing a paltry $144,200, let’s just hope he doesn’t break his leg.

Daniel Rich should be a must for any SuperCoach team.

With Simon Black out until round one of the season due to a wrist injury, there may be a chance to rotate some of the younger Lions on Cousins.

The likes of new draftees, Daniel Rich and Jack Redden have impressed the skipper.

They may be in line for a role on Cousins, and even for a spot in the Lions 22 come round one.

“Jack Redden and Daniel Rich have been fantastic,” Brown said.

“There’s still one game to go but I would have thought they’re pretty close at the moment.”

The injury to Brennan appears certain to pave the way for the Lions' first national draft selection of last year, West Australian Daniel Rich, to play in the opening round against West Coast at the Gabba.

Rich seems to be running with Cousins.

Rich WILL be a top shelf mid. Cousins got the better of him but Rich did plenty coming back the other way. His efforts off the ball are relentless too. Learned plenty tonight.

Rich will be a very good player. Ran some of the night with Cousins, and he would have learnt a heap. Disposal is pretty good.

Daniel Rich – Struggled when on Cuz but wasn’t disgraced. His last quarter was sensational. I thought it helped us get back in the game. Very clean hands under pressure and took the right option (unlike some teammates) for a young kid. Once he gets a bigger tank – watch out.

Cousins was swamped by his teammates after snapping through a goal on the run midway through the first quarter.

He finished with 31 touches, one of the best performing Tigers of the night

Daniel Rich again played with the poise to suggest he will be chosen first up against West Coast after being drafted by the club this season.

The Lions were ecstatic to pick up West Australian young-gun Daniel Rich at pick seven in last year’s draft. His NAB Cup form lines up well against Rhys Palmer’s 2008 campaign, which is a good sign for Lion’s fans.

The AFL has released it annual captain's survey, where the 16 club leaders are asked to vote on the performances of the competition's other 15 teams.

Who do you think will win the 2009 NAB AFL Rising Star?
Daniel Rich, Brisbane Lions (five), Jack Ziebell, North Melbourne (four), Dayne Beams, Collingwood (two), Jarrad Grant, Western Bulldogs (one), Stephen Hill, Fremantle (one), Michael Hurley, Essendon (one), Mitch Robinson, Carlton (one), Chris Yarran, Carlton (one).
