Fingers crossed he decides to stay at Richmond, I understand Marlon re-signed so that may sway him to stay.

If we give up pick 5 for a 28 yo HBF without something “significant” coming back I will be very disappointed. I think most neutral observers think he’s worth mid teens to 20.

What do I consider “significant “ one of the first rounders Richmond get for one of the other players jumping the sinking ship plus paying a significant amount of Dans wages for multiple years.

Personally even then I would prefer we didn’t peruse him

Plenty of them too, you want to win flags who really cares if you pay an extra lets say 2-3 picks. They are getting Lombard anyway for cheap. GC should be about how do we go from lets say 10th for arguments sake (they aint making finals) to a top 6 side next year. That shoukld be the minimum enough is enough, Rioli wins you games you can literally play him anyway, mid, forward and half back, he'd work off a wing too. Brings a glut of experience not just on the field but off field too. Who cares if it's pick 5 to get him, people get all worked off about picks, if you get a bloke at pick 5 better than Rioli you've done ULTRA well.

GC know 100% what they will get with Rioli.
Pick 5 is an unknown.
If a player actually notminate GC, they need to make it work for the sake of their clubs integrity IMO.
Not many good players have been screaming to get up there.

It depends what Hardwick is truly after. He might value Riolis leadership abilities more then this. You can be a B+ player and have a greater impact then that B+ in the right environment.

If there was a trade proposed that was pick 5 for Rioli and pick 15, then sure thats not stupidly unreasonable overs.
If Pick 12 and 20 for Rioli was the trade then thats fine too.

We just cant have a team given all these freebies while not being able to sustain itself, subsidised by every other team in the comp and getting to pick a team every year to share it with.
Geelong a couple years ago with pick 7, Fremantle with Weller for pick 2, and all the other trades they take unders for because they cant fit all their good players in the side

What leadership did Bowes being traded along with pick #7 last year ?
It was getting rid of cap pressure and similar will happen with the Rioli trade , Richmond will cover an amount thats suitable
GC will get the love child of Dimma as well as getting percentage of his salary paid by GC

Last thing GC need are more kids when they have a back yard full of academy kids coming through

Top 5 pick for Rioli is too much even contracted. Look at what Dogs traded to get 5 and a bunch of few picks in the 2nd and 3rd round. It's a chance for Suns to get a draftee before a Lombard bid. The options are if they must trade pick 5 they would demand back 39, 41 & 48. 5 for suns will get Langford or Lalor. Really I think tigers should go with 13, 20, & a player they and give 41 & 48 with Rioli. Collins would be ideal or Lukosius or even just a steak knives pick Jy or Faulkhead.

Pick 5 would become pick 6.
Here is the history of pick 5 and pick 6.
A lot of average players in the lists.

GC has basically got the entire Northern Territory recruiting zone…. Yes Rioli’s value mentoring present and future players would be unmeasurable… it also gives him a career path that would include large parts in the NT.

Those drafted at whatever pick means **** all. It's really how many options you can get at that pick and picking the best 1. A team with good recruiters will always pick well. Look at who Gold coast got recently with pick 5/6. Humphry, King, Andrew. Pick 5 is straight up worth more to gold coast than Rioli.
