So Wells is a gun. We all know it.

But in his limited finals appearances he has not set the world on fire. In his defense, he has really blossomed under Scott, meaning only one of his finals was during his "coming of age" as a player. That final saw him limp in with a dodgy calf, that he incidentally carried throughout the following pre-season.

This year, he has not played much footy and will have 2 real games of footy under his belt before taking on * (whom he has historically played well against).

What do we expect from him this September? He will carry much of the load in the first week of the finals, with regards to outside run and a likely tag from Hocking.

Can he turn in a dominant display, or is he only icing on the cake?

Wells has played good footy under Brad Scott but I think this running subtext that he didn't play well under Laidley is urban myth,

They might've had long staredowns in the corridor etc but I'd argue Wells' 2003/4 (for a rookie), 2007 and 2008 were high quality. In 2008 he played some slashing games.

Iirc did he play well in the 2007 finals win over Hawthorn?

Only stupid people would say Wells never played well under Laidley. Also he had OP, and fatties like Mcmahon falling into his legs.

But he was never consistent like he has been every year under Scott. 2 b&f's prove it.

Is the Men for All Seasons calendar being released?

Twinkletoes heres hoping Eric Wallace is Mr. December. All your Christmases will have come at once.

True but then those B&Fs were won in non-finals years and during a time when list depth hadn't developed yet.

Under Laidley he was on a list that contended in 3 finals series and still had a very strong nucleus of players from the 90s.

Without checking the records I think he played his best footy in 2008 but was up against some very good players in terms of the B&F.

I doubt we'll see his best this year. I think we can expect to see him bob up for a couple of goals and use it well when he gets it. I don't think we'll see too much of his gliding line breaking runs. I would be rapt to be wrong about that. The best part about having him back is the flow on effect for the team, where the 22nd player has to make way strengthening the side.

Wells could become our "Mr Saturday Night" as he dazzles the dance floor of the MCG. Can't wait to see us tear Ess a new eye-ball in the first final. I've got one of my 7 credit cards just sitting next to my PC poised for action.
I usually ring Bass at 9am on the Monday morning.

I'm not sure how we are supposed to deal with the double posting... Are we supposed to like both equally or more of a lord giveth and lord taketh type of arrangement. It's weird becuase it's not like your posts to confuse me and my non existant friend Artycloke.

The interesting thing about Wells, especially the last few seasons under Scott, he hasn't really used his pace much, to the extent that we don't even know if it's still there. Instead, he has used his kicking and general class to distribute the ball well and gather good numbers in doing so. His ball use will be the key on a slightly larger ground in the finals. In Boomer's absence, we'll be hoping for at least 3-4 goal assists and hopefully 1 or 2 majors from him.

Loved the second half of Wellsy's year when he started really becoming an offensive threat with a couple of bags of four. If he can be that dangerous around goals and if Ziebell/Cunnignton go forward and have an impact as they've shown they can do then we could cause some real damage in September.

Ziebell was built for September and will show why, if memory serves he and Swallow were the only two who showed up in Perth two years back.

I can just see Ziebell running through brick walls to win this one.

I must say his first game back he looked really good and had that desperation look about him. Its something we need going into the first final and hopefully the whole team can bring a ferocious pressure mentality to the game, I just cant wait.

Actually didn't mind Wellsy getting rubbed out last week as it showed he is well dosed up on angry pills. Tends to perform at his best in these moods and I don't reckon he will need as much time as others to regain touch. Will have a big impact against the *.
