Don't argue talent with durability.
I'm not. It's durability that has held Elliot back not talent. Sidebottom kicked 10 in a GF before he was drafted and was probably in the top 3 players over the 2 GF's in 2010. Since then he's won a B&F and gone close to Brownlow. Wells took a few years to get close to justifying his draft position and for most of his career was ranked behind Goddard from the same draft. Stevenson's first 2 years have surpassed Well's first 2 by a margin.

Well's durability issues came late in his career. They haven't really impacted what he achieved at North.

Was he? I honestly only recall that he never looked like living up to his hype.

Was playing some very good footy at reserve level, so much so that he earned his debut. Didn't play out that game. I get a sense that his back injury was being managed even then. More recently, he was working for DHS in Northern metro region and while I never got to have any discussions with him, my mate Lazza (who also worked at DHS and post over on Nicks) has on a couple of occasions.

Turned up to the club fat and never got his body right after that, we made a GF and came within a ****tenth of winning it

He was supposed to be the cream on the premiership cake, instead he looked like he ate it

What a terrible nasty post.

Yes he came the first season a bit over weight but actually still played an excellent 10 games.
Then it was a series of contact injuries.

It happened.

He has given a lot to the younger players.

Good person.

Didn’t work out playing wise, but he deserves much more respect.

It's called reality, he never gave his body the chance to get right and woke up too late, he paid the price and so did we! so you can save your sermons for sunday
You stick to your trump sermons.

2017 he played 10 games. We won 7, lost 2 and drew 1. Collingwood won 9 games for the season.

2018 he played 3 games for 3 wins.

2019 he played 2 quarters and kicked 3 goals and we won.

Daniel Wells at the Collingwood Football Club played 14 games for 11 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses.

He was all class and had a major impact when he played. The only issue was his injuries prevented him from doing so.
I agree.

In 2017, with Wellsy in the side we were brilliant, in 2018 the rest of the players caught up, so in 2018 & 19, a fit Wellsy playing and we could have added two premierships, Wellsy made that difference.

I am disappointed we could not get more games from Wellsy, but he is the calibre of player we need to recruit more of.

Very good he was also looking into being a player manager for indigenous kids which might be further down the track.

Great for Wellsy and for the club! Apparently a superb character to keep around.

Fantastic.
As a club, Collingwood has always been underrepresented when it comes to indigenous players.
Which is a surprise considering the following we have in those communities.
Hopefully this is a step to redress our past failings.

Let’s hope it starts a new era of drafting and nurturing indigenous talent at the pies, our numbers coming through of good indigenous talent is just far too low/almost non existent. All the strong premiership clubs in the last 10,15 years have had that X factor.

We are way behind.

We don’t have to. Nobody is saying that.

What most people recognise is that aboriginal players often possess great skills, X factor, one-touch, often a bit of speed - all things out playing list needs. If you go through the past premiers, they’ve often had a healthy group of indigenous talent on the list.
Now nobody is suggesting drafting players from that background for the sake of it, any player needs to get on the list on merit - we are desperately lacking crumbing/forward pressure skills amongst others, again something indigenous forwards are known for.
Hope this clarifies what I meant.
