On to ep 6, the only thing that really dragged for me so far was the scene with Dex as a child with the baseball. Felt like it went forever.

I was fine with it because you do need to know his troubled past to understand why he was so easily turned by Fisk but yeah I can understand why some found it too long.

Massive return to form. Thought all of JJ, LC, IF and Punisher dragged but this is the first since DD1 that has justified 13 episodes.

Daredevil is the showpiece that paved the way for those other Marvel Netflix series. None of them captured my attention like DD S1 (superhero fatigue, maybe?).

What gives DD the best potential is than it's a character where you can care about both the hero and the regular life. Daredevil and Matt Murdock.

Spiderman is probably the best one for that. The Reeve Superman movies did it well too with Clark Kent.

That's about it really. The rest are poor or don't have alter egos.

Im at 8, obviously the standout sequences are the "jailbreak" and the Dex childhood stuff, just real ambitious visionary filmmaking for a Netflix TV show.

FWIW Luke Cage and Iron Fist being cancelled coupled with the impending Disney streaming service would seem to imply DD will be gone without a season 4 which really sucks.

It's bad business IMO. Keeping a flagship like DD on Netflix will only help Disney with getting interest in their exclusive comic character shows.

Disney is a company that can afford to cut its nose to spite its face.

Hard to see how they top what they just did though and it did have a fitting conclusion If it doesnt come back. As it stands I would still put it among the best shows Ive ever seen.

At the end of the day if viewership is very high I dont think they will cancel it. I suspect the viewers for IF and LC were very low.

Fantastic season, very much on par with season 1. Some might say it hits many similar beats to season 1, but it feels like a classic action movie sequel, building on the original. Never felt long, never felt boring. And I think a key is that all the secondary characters were well developed. Nadeem and Dex were fully fleshed out, important characters by the end.

I think we will see a season 4. Cage and Fist were cancelled because they were expensive and less watched, and Netflix had overplayed their hand with five shows. Plus, the Punisher exceeded both in terms of quality and probably viewers. I believe the contract with Disney is separate to its movie rights deal and ongoing.

If it means they are going to explore some other Marvel characters I'm all for it.

They arent. Disney streaming service is just going to use characters from the MCU to kick it off. Scarlett Witch, Loki and a Falcon/Winter Soldier show have beem anounced so far.

Here's a good article that looks at the complicating factors behind the cancellations so far (I didn't realise Luke Cage 3 was so far into pre-production when it was cancelled). It looks like Netflix is simply getting out of the Marvel game, which is a shame because Daredevil was excellent. I just hope Disney picks it up with the same crew.

I don't think it's Netflix getting out of the Marvel game. It's the other way around.

A bit of both, maybe. The article points out the Netflix is unlikely to invest its own money into intellectual property that belongs to a rival. Future shows will also be limited in how they connect to the overall Marvel universe since that will be in-house at Disney. Without those connections, the shows become less valuable, and they are quite expensive to make.

The TV shows didn't connect in anyway. Unless you count very surface level references.

The connect simply in terms of characters; Kingpin is a Spider-man villain as well as a Daredevil villain. When looking at future series and villains or supporting characters, who will they have access to? Disney is circling the wagons around its IP, Netflix is jettisoning anything that can benefit rivals (a tactic that has been happening for a while interms of making their own movies and reducing the number they source from studios). It's going to be an interesting battle.
