Okay, a lot of people seem to think the Tigers are a lock for next year's wooden spoon. Surely there must be a few other candidates though. So who could be a smokey for the Spoon....maybe Port? Freo? Thoughts...?

I think the Tigers have an excellent couching group now. Lade coaching Ruck will be a huge assist. The Tigers will be pummeled in the first 5-10 games, (except I reckon they will beat Carlton), but will come home strong.

Port had 9 wins last year. Two against Hawthorn, a early season win against the Crows and Essendon and a few other close ones, including Richmond. My point being, they ain't going to be this lucky in 2010.

Rd. 22, 2010 Richmond v Port. Will it be a battle for the Woodenspoon?

It probably be the best wooden spoon team of all time since there is no need to tank anymore.

It's hard to go past Richmond, but injuries could come into for some unlucky team.

Do any of you know what a dark horse is?

Of those listed Port is a dark horse for the spoon because it won't happen. Shit clubs like Melbourne, Richmond and Freo are not dark horses because they are perennially shit and them finishing bottom would be a surprise to nobody. A real dark horse would be a top 8 side from 2009. Of last years top 8 I could only conceivably see Essendon or Carlton coming last.

So in other words, 'my club is not a dark horse because I said so'?
Prove that it won't happen and I'll take my post down. Port did nothing to show me or anyone else that they were playing for Williams in the last rounds of 2009. They could very well tank to get rid of him.
Highly unlikely Port will finish 16th. But a rough outside chance? Yes.

He said Port is a dark horse.

Hawks for mine. They don't appear to handle injuries too well down that way, but even if they don't get many injuries, I'm still tipping a bottom 8 finish for them.

Full credit for winning in 2008, but I don't think they adapted to the rule changes brought in to stop their unsociable footy. If they can find some more rules to bend they might be a chance to finish top 8 though.

i dont know carlton has been mentioned bottom four as i see it:

13 Port Adelaide
14 Carlton
15 Richmond
16 Melbourne

Essendon have a few gems coming through but will place 9-13. Freo i think have the spine now to build around so they will be 9-13.

Brisbane look top 4 material. Sydney just inside the 8.

Indeed. I misread.
But I'd still like to know why it 'won't happen'.

I think it won't happen because I don't think we will be as bad as we were last year. We played like absolute homo's for the majority of the year, seemed to lack heart, were mentally soft, divided and seemed to lack spirit as well leadership on and off the field. It was our annus horribilus and yet we still finished 10th. There were still 6 teams worse than us. Any improvement in any of those areas will see us rise, not fall.
