Every time this thread is bumped I expect that an EPL club have signed him up.

It will happen one day. Just hope there some institutional learning from the great man. ..

Don't think so as he wants to remain in Adelaide for family reasons.

Worth every dollar we are paying him.

Just need to compare our fitness & conditioning now compared to the Birdbrain era to appreciate how important this role is to the success of the side.

Surely he'd be #2..........................Unless he's also working with the girls, which adds to his profile to the point I can justify him being #1 overall
Yeah quite possibly. that said. Burgo is a proven world class resource. Nicks was coming off an initial 3 years win a winning % of 25-30% meaning there was great uncertainty he would even make it as a Senior coach.

Went through the progression of Melbournes draftees from when Burgess arrived and to think all picks under 40 played in the preceeding 4 years played in a flag except a couple of 2020 in their 1st year.

2017 Spargo, Fritsch, Petty
2018 Sparrow, Jordon,
2019 Jackson, Pickett, Rivers
2020 Bowey

When we look at the fast tracking of Rachelle, Soligo, Michalanny and the progression of Fogarty, Jones, TT, Pedlar, Berry, Murray etc its quite insane.

Being able to get mature bodies right is one thing but getting elite 23 y.o to 100 games consistently is off the charts.

Your starting to look at a group of 300 game players again.

Will we be the first club to keep this guy settled and in the job for a lengthy period? He is arguably the most important signing of all. For me, he is the key to it all. Give him whatever he wants.
Young kids settled in school here, which is why he moved back from Melbourne, so for at least the next 6-7 years he's probably not looking to be moving.

Burgess is surely a big part of Tex winding back the clock and still playing like he's a 25-year-old. He hasn't played well in every game, but it's fantastic to see him still kicking bags at 33. 7th on the Coleman Medal leader board is pretty damn handy.

If Burgess ever wants more money, hand him a blank cheque and a pen.

He has Sloane resembling a footballer at 33 coming off a knee. The guy is a freak.

While the cheque may be important, I think the right environment and job satisfaction is going to help, let him do his job no interferences

Also just to illustrate how much of a difference a full Burgo preseason can make.

How it started:

"Just a shame that Burgo's program doesn't appear to be working for Pedlar. That was the one I was most concerned about when we first hired him." - Mr Moogle Aug 2022

Wasn’t he getting some sort of input into our high performance center? Surely that’s something that will keep him interested and around.
If we get a flag from the current group, we can name it after him.

Good post and MLB was stated as the best (or equal best) 4th qtr team in recent days. Perhaps a Burgo legacy amongst other variables. Dee’s had ample time (12 mths) to prepare for his exit and probably clone his techniques and IP as much as possible.

I get the joke but seriously, Sloane has returned ENORMOUSLY better than I thought he would.

Sloane's mentally an old soldier and with the expertise of Burgo, it's a great credit to him. He might still be near the end, but he could have come back and been putrid.

Darren Burgess has been one of our best ever recruits.

As Adelaide went searching for a new high-performance boss, they create the shortest of short-list

It had just one name: Darren Burgess

Relatively early during coach Matthew Nick's tenure, the crows felt their high-performance results under Matt Hass were not good enough. That they were behind the top clubs and needed to move on in another direction. Among Adelaide's concerns were its soft-tissue injuries and players' lack of strength The club also believed improved high-performance resources would help the squad strive to be better

According to ex-Crow Ben Davis, Burgess's biggest influence at West Lakes - and what he does better than other high-performance bosses - is build great relationships with it's players.

"When word got around that Burgo was coming over ... I had this perception he's going to be a hard bastard," Davis told The Advertiser.

"But when he got there and me being energetic and a massive extrovert, I just started yelling out, being a d***head basically ... at training and he'd always give me a bit back.

For a bloke to be able to step into a new club and connect with blokes so quickly was probably his strong suit.

"You could go to him about anything and have a chat and feel comfortable, as if it's a mate I've known for years.

Once pre-season behan, Davis noticed a more streamlined, simplified approach.

"We were doing the same amount of stuff and getting a lot more out of it," he said.

We thought we had a good program and what we were doing was an elite standard, but when Burgo came in, it was like 'righto, this is the level and this is what elite looks like'."

Davis said Burgess showed the Crows' squad pre-season data that revealed they were running harder than Melbourne during it's flag campaign.

Davis added: "He loved talking about the long run and putting money in the bank for when we're going to need it in the season".

"Then when it gets to those points and our bodies are tired and injuries are at a high risk, we know we've planned stuff out and measured it, so that we're able to outrun the other teams ... without risking injury."

Adelaide players' physical strength has improved markedly since the arrival of Sam Dodge from the UK.

Coming from a rugby, judo and wrestling background, Dodge started the same pre-season as Burgess and they taught the squad to embrace the gym

Early in the rebuild Adelaide players would regularly be pushed off contests too easily.

Not anymore.

Adelaide's first all-squad session under Burgess featured four 1km time trials.

"He liked the mental strength around not telling you the steps or reps - you get it done and get it done well, and it's done when it's done," Davis said.

"He loves giving examples like 'it's the fourth quarter and the last five minutes of the grand final, you're out on your legs and you've got to shift back to help defend in the back 50, that mental resilience we've built up now is what's going to allow you to get there when you need to spoil that ball'."
