will be interesting to see what the darwin does to the 3 or 4 guys that did not make themselves available for the rep game. if they stick to the agreement made at the start of the season all should get two weeks. we will see if the new executive have the balls past commitees have lacked
Apparently it has been done but this is only hearsay, if so, South have a few out this week-Butler injured from Combined game, Baldock on the mainland talking to a couple of Clubs about next year, Macca, Braz, Nathen Russell all suspended. This may not be right but gives the forum bite

Apparently he did not train which is a bit hard as he lives not in Burnie and has no licence AND he was looking after his crook grandmother one of the training days
Correct me if i'm wrong mooch but these players are only suspended cause they didn't contact coachs about not being available, which is probaly fair enough we new the deal at the start of the year, also the darwin tried being more pro this year with letters and neutral coachs, wouldn't think a phone call from players unavailable was to hard.

Fair enough, amongst all this, the process and selection was better, hence a closer result maybe but its about timing as well-the DFA side from 2 years ago would have beaten tHE nwfa side from this year and last years NWFA side would still have beaten this years DFA side in my humble opinion,Crows at home tomorrow comfortably v Yeoman,Pies to smash the Dogs who have 8 senior players missing for various reasons thus helping the % at Natone,Ridgley over South due to South also having a few out for varying reasons and the Roos too strong at the home of footy, Langley Park, we will see how thes tips go come tomorrow arvo-Woody named for the Demons so this will bridge the gap, he would have been handy last week in the Combine game.:footy:

I read the paper today and notice some of the names mentioned that would get suspended for not supporting the combined game are named for their club. Havent they been suspended, or was the DFA executive not going to do anything?

I heard that woody and heath didnt want to play the combined game so injury wasnt a concern, and rumour has it the other senior squad players named did not want to play either. Good on their young blokes in the u23s who hardly missed a training run and yolla had good representation with 4 players i think played on the day.

DFA has done well withthe process and no problems in the Unders.A couple of things from the weekend, Natone very good structurally with 5 to come back in, Ridgley not the depth of previous years , South a very, very solid win witha few out, Crows still strong at home, Cupronas young players in Jai Wells at 15 and Shannon Conroy at 14 have good futures, The Roos need to pick one up after this loss V Yolla.Looking forward to the second half of the year and the final 5 will not be decided till the last round:thumbsu:

Heard on the grapevine today that Millhouse from Natone is having a meeting with the tribunal to appeal his suspension, fair go, the tribunal is doing a wonderful job and I am sure they have better things to do than to go over common ground again. Its not as if Natone are missing him at the moment, take the medicine that is dished out if you do the crime or DO NOT GET CAUGHT

Already has appealed, got it dropped from 3 weeks down to 2 weeks.

i will start off by saying i dont like or support south burnie, but for 2 off the south boys getting suspended over the rep game is a joke they supplied 10 players out of the 44 players .is it true only 3 players gpt suspended? was told by players from 3 different clubs that if jackson and french coach next year they will not be playing.:thumbsdown:i know of one bloke suspended told frenchy he wasnt playing but still got suspended .cant wait 4 next years rep game if i was south i be saying no one available.them players didnt even get chance to say ther case.

It certainly is an interesting scenario, I personally think you cannot force someone to play in a Rep game if they simply do not want to eg they may want to rest that particular weekend, go away, in fact do anything they like because if they are contracted to a particular club and paid, this game would not be part of it.In fact from a Club and recruiting viewpoint I am sure the rep game would not even be discussed in any form of negotiation. What if a key player from your club eg Baldock does a season defining injury during the rep game - not too good for his Club is it ?In fact, this happened this year with DeVries from Cuprona and to a lesser degree Butler from South.Yes, by all means let the Selectors nominate their initial squad as in fairness to them they do not know what each player may or may not be doing on the weekend of the game but then assertain who then actually is WILLING to play then add or delete from this group accordingly.Sometimes the so called "best" players running around cannot go to the next "level" anyway as is required in the Rep game.I am sure a player will play his best if he is willing and not forced. The Clubs could let the selectors know if their player is available or not, this happens with the BCL Combined cricket team which has a cross over of some of the players anyway, hence they have won the last 4 games with blokes "wanting" to play and not being forced to, we may only be talking about a minority of players not prepared to play or have made prior arrangements as most would want to play I assume, bring on the NWFA next year, communication between all parties was better than last year but with a loss everyone needs to be accountable to improve for next year:thumbsu:

I heard that every player selected got a formal letter given to them with the coaches phone number. I believe some that didnt have a chance to say their case didnt even ring.

No club can complain as all club presidents agreed that if a player made himself unavailable without a very good reason that they would be suspended at the rep coaches say so. Some people never even bothered to contact them thats why they got suspended and so they should.

Some letters were late but it is only a phone call , maybe letters adressed to each player personally may make it easier, only have to get addresses off the Darwin, Cupronas letters both Senior and Under 23 hand delivered to each player

then why did craig stretton get a suspended sentence and he was in melbourne for the weekend. isnt that a good enough reason? the yolla boys went to strahan fishing is that a good enough reason? yep blokes got suspended to but all we ask for is a bit of consistancy. either everyone gets done or none get done

Fair comment. Doesn't seem to be an easy answer to the rep game situation. Guys have a choice whether to play or not & the DFA gets embarrasingly belted like last year or they put pressure on guys to play then there's questions over who gets suspended. Some guys would have legitimate reasons while others come up with BS stories which makes it hard for the guys dishing out the suspensions.

At least we were competitive this year so my vote would be to have a similar approach to the rep game next year.
