Heads have already rolled. That's what everyone is ignoring. Those remaining will be reviewed when the ASADA report is finalised. This is a reasonable and sensible stand point.

I know BF want the club to implode from the inside, but fortunately we are a stable club and are holding up to this situation very well so far.

Heads have rolled? Which heads?

I think this report is very concerning.

* No mention of who hired Danks
* No mention of who recommended Danks
* No mention of who Danks was reporting to.
* Talks about "Protagonist" (dank) and his words about not using any banned substance yet ignoring the same guy also said he injected Coach.
* No mention of whether Hird himself took any of these substance (illegal or not, Danks wasn't hired by Essendon to inject the coach.)
* No mention of who is responsible for this mess.
* Apologizing so much without giving any reason what for. What the hell you are apologising for if you really believe nothing was illegal.
* Not giving the date when Doc wrote that letter. Actually why Essendon is hiding that info?
* Who lost/hid that letter?
It's like they are in a hologram, there but not really. Just shows you that you can be a big powerful organisation but with this comes, governance problems that affects the workers and the powerless, yeap the chief keeps his role, his buddies rally around him they get on the media with that "he's a good bloke" we all feel warm and fuzzy and move on. Whilst the players are left where?

One of the articles in the age is reporting the following:

He said the club was being advised by two pharmacological experts, Dr Andrew Garnham and Professor Ross McKinnon, and it was more and more confident of the "safety profile" of the supplements.

From memory didn't Evans say that he was confident there wouldn't be any players suspended? That's very different to saying he was confident of the "Safety Profile" of the supplements.

Safety profile means what? That they are confident that the drugs won't be harmful to the players in the long term? That the drugs are safe and not prohibited by WADA? What does that mean?

They only two things they disagree with most non-EFC fans on is (1) the players getting banned for 2 years - they are hoping an argument for leniency can be made, and (2) Hird should be sacked now - they want to wait for the ASADA report to confirm the degree of his involvement before pulling the trigger.

The AFL will smack EFC for managerial incompetence, it will be deserved, and most EFC fans will agree with it.

The supporters may not want that but surely they have to admit they deserve it. They got caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

You can't have any claims for "leniency" because otherwise you may as well not even bother having ASADA or drug bans in place at all.

As they say "Ignorance of the law is no excuse". You can't have clubs employing sports scientists on the basis that players knowingly take performance enhancing drugs from them and escape bans by claiming they were unwilling guinea pigs. If you allowed that every single AFL club is going to employ Sports Scientists on the basis that they will get paid more for taking the rap if they are found out.

That letter being "lost/hidden" just shows how bad a situation Essendon know they are in. There is no way in hell that a letter by a Doctor who has been a family friend of James Hird was "lost" and that the coach did not know about it.

It's just further evidence that Essendon has lots to hide because acknowledging that letters existance means it proves Hird and everyone else at Essendon knew Dank was doping the players up and were letting it happen.

This is why you cannot allow leniency on player bans. They need to be banned for 2 years otherwise other clubs are going to play the fool as well and pretend they don't know their players were given drugs. Risk Vs Reward.

Ziggy zags around the big issue in Bombers report

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-ne...g-issue-in-bombers-report-20130506-2j31d.html

You only need to read the first few paragraphs of Ziggy Switkowski's "independent review" of Essendon's controversial strengthening program to understand the subtext: These blokes with their substances and their weights programs were pretty "confident". If only you had your organisational flow charts in place you could have stopped them!

But, rather than the harrowing – and still unknown consequences – Switkowski points a finger at the "confident, opinionated staff" taken on by the club. People who brought with them "sometimes unconventional ideas". Presumably, a reference to Danks and, perhaps, the club's suspended strength and conditioning coach Dean Robinson.
The conclusion we are invited to make is that these interlopers had been given a centimetre by the coaching staff and taken a kilometre. That these "confident" blokes were much harder to control than the diffident, forelock tugging geeks you might normally find in the medical room. Which led to "a disturbing picture of a pharmacologically experimental environment never adequately controlled or challenged or documented within the club".
Why not? The blame is spread by Switkowski, but not specifically.
Essendon chairman David Evans described it as an "uncomfortable report". But if the star of The Princess and the Pea were on the Bombers' coaching staff, even she wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. Chief executive Ian Robson, on the other hand, might toss and turn.

You will find most EFC posters agree with you. Even if the players get no suspension (which is a tough sell right now), most have agreed that management bans, massive fine, and a suspension from multiple drafts is very likely.

They only two things they disagree with most non-EFC fans on is (1) the players getting banned for 2 years - they are hoping an argument for leniency can be made, and (2) Hird should be sacked now - they want to wait for the ASADA report to confirm the degree of his involvement before pulling the trigger.

Yep, most of are just waiting to find more details of what happened.

Not disputing we will get an AFL penalty at all. We will, and I think rightly so.

Most people have bought most of the media articles in what happened, and it's very hard not to be drawn in, I take the innocent until proven guilty stance.
Hird, considering his record and his general nature not so sure many could blame us for sticking by him, he has never come across as a person that would put anyone safty in jeopardy on purpose. #standbyhird was never saying he could do no wrong thought, it was supporters offering their support when he was under pressure, from the AFL, the media etc. That we'll made a decision when they know all the details.

I think what is disputed too, is what level players have to go to to say they took resemble steps to make sure they were compliant, many think the consent forms were enough, though, someone from within the club should have kept a closer eye on the science department for sure.

But, not disagreement that we will cop an AFL sanction at all.

Safety profile means what? That they are confident that the drugs won't be harmful to the players in the long term? That the drugs are safe and not prohibited by WADA? What does that mean?
I actually don't recall Evans saying "Safety profile". I was sure he said that based on the advice from the 2 Pharmacologists that no player would be suspended.

But to answer your question, I think "Safety Profile" in this context means that they most likely wont grow another testicle.

The very fact that there is so far no outrage whatsoever from Essendon fans even after the release of this shambolic "Independent investigation" suggest that they probably wouldn't mind a coverup. I have quickly read this report and it looks like what essendon is claiming (more like suggesting I know) is this:

Dank was not reporting to anyone, no one could overrule Danks (+ the weapon), 2-3 people responsible for every decision, no sole decision maker in whole club apart from Dank, Dank hid all info, Dank convinced us it was all within WADA rules, Dank pushed us to release funds for offsite injections, Dank pushed Coach Hirdy to inject himself etc etc.

I hope some in media see through this.

Dank, Robinson and Hamilton are all no longer at the club.

The remaining positions will be reviewed once the ASADA review is complete. Do you believe this is an unreasonable stance?

Robinson has been stood down not sacked though? Dank was a no brainer. Hamilton left of his own accord:

"It is disappointing that Paul will be leaving us but we appreciate that he has made a decision to further develop his career and explore other opportunities,” Bombers chief executive Ian Robson said in a statement released tonight."

So really, only Dank has been sacked.

That letter being "lost/hidden" just shows how bad a situation Essendon know they are in. There is no way in hell that a letter by a Doctor who has been a family friend of James Hird was "lost" and that the coach did not know about it.

Agreed. I don't know if any other explanation could fit here.

Did he actually have the audacity to state that?

Isn't the idea to engage the services of pharmacologists before you go injecting pigs brains, Alzheimer medication and banned S2 substances in to people?

Another issue is even bigger. We are all blaming dank, but who employed Dank, who worked above him. Remember Lance Armstrong's doctor didn't work alone? No you don't mean CEO's, politicians, business owners, drug companies do you? You're joking, bet we never get to know who they are? Cover Up, paper shredders working overtime, I wonder if computer hard drive technicians have been busy lately cleaning hard drives? ;)
;);)

Hi Angry Lion,

You are outraged?

I must say that is surprising.

Regards,
Mojo

And if we're to believe Essendon Dank's sacking had nothing to do with their concerns about the program as they weren't aware of anything untoward until February 2013 :)

Of course you can have leniency, ASADA and WADA have shown it plenty of times in the past, when after reviewing all evidence before them they decide if its warranted, and if so, to what degree.

WADA are pretty good at this (filtering the bullshit), and tend to be very conservative in granting any concessions on their punishments.

Its a ball that is always in ASADA's court though, best Bombers can do is make their case and hope.

It's an Essendon FC report, they're not going to print anything that'll incriminate them any further. That's why this whole thing's a joke.

"Independent", look it up in the dictionary! Or do you know what it means but choose to tell straight out lies?

As I said, we can re-hire Hamilton and sack him. Anything to appease the internet lynch mob.

Not sure where you get to call us a lynch mob, your club or should I say the current guardians of your club have stuffed up. They have tainted your clubs standing in many peoples eyes. I for one was gobsmacked that Essendon would do such a thing. Your club's culture really has up to now stood for high standards, conservative in nature. It is unfortunate that you a loyal supporter have to deal with this but to call me a lynch mob is scandal also. Some might focus on the cover but many of us delve a little deeper. Feel your pain however.

And, for that reason Evans out himself up for re election in november, for that reason.
