It must be recent, he's on the GF 2007 DVD on the 3AW broadcast, and he's nothing but positive towards Geelong on that. Strange.

2007 was a warm and fuzzy occasion for GFC, because it broke a 44-year drought and the feelgood aspect of it endeared us to many in the media, especially after the consecutive run of interstaters getting the flag. I noticed King go nasty post-2009 when it became apparent that we weren't just a one-off flash in the pan effort.

l heard him on 3aw Saturday pre match a few weeks out from the finals in 09 write us off again. Cats can't win it, Cats are gone. After the loss to the Blues? This year it was largely off the Swans loss.

l think his main problem is he has 'hard hands' in cricket parlance. Fine to say l think Pies are more likely than Geelong, but Cats are still a great side, see how they go etc. He just tries to be too authoritative, too definite and too correct. Shake his head "they're gone, can;t win it" etc.

As if he is somehow broaching a greater level of analysis by making clear hard calls. Post the Hawks final (at least) he should have been able to pull himself up stronger than he did if he was so committed to objective analysis (his and many others 'pseudo-science' is another matter. what about 'will and character and form'!). But he wasn't he was too committed to defending himself.

which is where his bias comes into play - his continued denial that Geelong could do it wasn't based on any actual observable data, since his assessments continually flew in the face of the evidence presented on a weekly basis. It was his own preference that drove him to stick by his statement rather than an impartial analysis of the team's form, injuries, history and wins against other contenders.

Good point LSV . He had the opportunity to laugh it off at first on AFL 360 but stubbornly let the ego take over and it became a far too personal saving face issue - rather than doing what he is paid for and provide objective analysis just kept making that hole deeper and deeper. Chocolate to a boiled lolly in 3 short weeks !!

I still can't get over Dermott's assessment of top 10 players ever??, I forget the exact era, but the judges named Carey #1, Ablett #2. That is arguably fair enough, but Brereton could not find a spot for Ablett (snr) in the top 10. Which judge of any credibility can NOT include Gary Ablett in top 10??

Yep I have (albeit not weekly). I actually really like Kingy; he thinks deeply about the game, whether his predictions are right or wrong I could care less.

He is intelligent and offers actual insight into the stuff as fans you don't get to see. Much more entertaining and insightful than just hearing: "Collingwood play the boundary line; Geelong play the coridoor."

Re: the bolded part, honestly, if you think his kind of comments are a detriment to the club then I think you need to have a bit of a harder think about what the the club is concerned about. I'm sure absolutely anyone on the payroll will tell you not one thing that is said in the media effects their preparation/belief. Really, saying King's comments are detrimental to our club is lunacy.
