Means nothing, Hawthorn posters were getting a hard on when their players were on Shiels instagram account as well
Bloke knows the Media watch his Instagram because of the media reports saying he deleted his previous post that he was staying. Probably doing this as well for a few giggles.

Our first this year and first next year

Brisbane trade 5 and 18 to Freo for Neale

Freo give us 30 and Brisbane give us 55

Brisbane get Neale and next years first rounder
We get Beams pick 30 and pick 55 this year and should have enough points(at least without big deficit next year) for Quaynor and Kelly
Freo get 5 and 18

It’s still overs for a 29 year old unless a second comes back to us, for academy points if nothing else

I'm intrigued if anyone has ever done a study to see what the average retirement age is for players split up by player type.
If he can play decent footy until he's 34, then 2 (barely) first rounders is not too much.

Given how many games he missed at the Lions and given his off field issues, 34 is a stretch of the imagination.

Bittersweet.

If Ned Guy comes out of this with his appendix intact ...

... then we’ll have done better than the last trade we did involving Beams.

I’m not a fan of this beams trade.

Degoey is obviously going to be our Gary Ablett senior. Was really hoping we’d get Bruce and a KPD, as good as beams is he’s too old and we need decent KPP coverage. Dunne is coming back from a reco, Reid is broken, and I’d rather see degoey take over as number 1 mid till sier is ready for it.

I really hope this pays off.

2-3 years is in our hitting zone based on how we finished 2018. That doesn't mean we will definately be contending and it doesn't count other teams making large gains and passing us but we can only go on where we think we are and what we think will bridge the gap to win us a premierhsip. We are entitled to think we are close and based on the 2 finals we lost we were beaten in the midfield as well as by the lack of a KP defender.

I for one am glad we are doing what we have rarely done and filling spefiic needs when the opportunity arises. This was my (almost) never ending frustration under MM. Beams is a great fit to our midfield and should bridge the gap on WCE, particularly as they get Gaff back into the premiership side and Richmond with a fit Martin. We still need a quality key back but there doesn't appear to be one that we can get this year. May looks out of reach to us.

I agree with those that say 2 first rounders is over the odds but that's presuming we don't get a second round or similar from Brisbane in the deal that helps with this years strategy. In any case, if Beams helps us win a flag he will have been worth 3 first rounders.

It all comes down to bridging the gap. The last 10% is harder than the first 10% and worth whatever it costs. It won't come from also rans and is unlikley to come quickly enough via the draft with high ladder finishes.

If he has half the career of GOD, we've done well.

I'm not sure why people have just decided that this was a choice that Collingwood made between Beams and May, for the same price, like getting food from a buffet.

Regardless of how anyone personally rates either player, May is worth more because the Suns would be looking at a low first round compensation pick if he leaves next year (Suns could very well challenge for the spoon this year!), so that should be a starting point at the trade table. If we are looking at Pick 18 and something in between future 2nd and a future 1st for Beams then the prices are not comparable.

And we don't know whether May is actually on the cards or if they are just using us to drive a hard bargain with the Dees.
