The only question I have is why?

Why would Brisbane possibly entertain trading one of their best players who is contracted until the end of 2020 when they're finally looking on the up?

Why would Collingwood waste the little time we have this trade period haggling over a player unlikely to be available for trade?

Thirdly and most importantly why would we want to use the precious little trade currency we have on a midfielder who'll be 29 when next season starts when we have more pressing list needs elsewhere?

Finally I'm surprised we would be interested as I was always under the impression Beams and Buckley didn't exactly see eye to eye, while Beams hasn't exactly enamored himself to the Collingwood faithful in his time with Brisbane has he in regards to reported social media commentary about our club that wasn't overly favourable.

I thought the bridge had been burnt if I'm honest.

The only way I see a possible deal for Beams getting done is if Langdon agrees to join his brother at Fremantle and we send pick 18 to the Dockers also as part of the deal for Neale.

Question is though do we really want to use that currency on Beams?

One reason I can think of is the same reason he arrived at Brisbane. Compassion. He appears to have only gone there to be nearer to his father. They know this and got a gun player as a result. Now that his father has passed he wants to go back. If it’s ok for him to leave Victoria due to a family need, surely then it’s reasonable to let him return. Would seem harsh to say otherwise.

Some perspective of what we received for a 26 year old Beams in his prime vs what some are suggesting for a 29 year old Beams in his twilight.

(25 we used on Greenwood, Crisp effectively cost us pick 67, which we also gave to BL)

18 and potentially a pick around 15 next year is the equivalent to pick 4.

It is in points, but I’d take pick 4 everyday.

Wasn’t Beams usually a disappointment in big matches ie finals?
Check out Beams performances against the top 8 teams in 2012, he played pivotal roles in wins against them all, probably playing better against the top teams than he played the bottom.

3qt comeback win against Adelaide,
36 touches, 2 goals, 3 Brownlow votes, no Swan.

Tight win in a top of the ladder match against West Coast, also no swan.
34 disposals, 3 goals and 3 Brownlow votes.

Belting of Geelong.
36 disposals, 2 goals, 3 Brownlow votes.

Tight win against eventual premiers, missing one of Pendlebury or swan.
34 touches, 3 goals and 3 brownlow votes.

Disappointing loss to finalists North.
38 touches, 2 goals, 2 Brownlow votes.

Win against freo.
32 touches, 1 goal.

Loss to west coast.
30 touches, 1 goal.

Loss to hawthorn
34 touches, 4 goals.

Stood up after J-mac passed and had 30 disposals in a tight finals win against a side that beat us a few weeks earlier.
Had 27 and 28 disposals in the other 2 finals losses.

F**k people here are a little off with the trade. This years first rounder and next years would likely not get the deal done. Pick 18 this year and likely pick 13-18 next year is no where near a satisfactory deal.if we really want beams were going to have likely this years first, next years first and a 3rd rounder might get it done but why would Brisbane accept 2 late 1st rounders, it would be another steal like the last beams trade for us. Beams imo was the best player in the second half of the year so he will not come cheap like some of you believe lol. Langdon and a 2nd founder must be a sick joke

Lions traded for a 24yo AA mid with 9 years in front of him.

Pies might be trading for a 29yo AA mid, with maybe 3 years in front of him, with some off field issues.

2 firsts and a third just aint happening.

I'd be surprised if Guy offered anymore than 18 and a best 22 player.

Hi age isn't an issue. He is young enough to play in premierships. We were a gaol from a flag. Add Beams and we win. Obvioulsy nothing is certain but if he could be the difference in winning and losing a GF then he is worth all our draft picks. I wouldn't neccessarily target a mid in this trade week but AA quality mids don't grow on trees. If one wants in, you have to seriously try and make it happen. First pick and Thomas or equivilent is the right price. If we do it, it needs to happen before any deal for Langdon because they will wan't that pick and if we don't hand it over they will be able to say we didn't do enough to get him and hold him for another year. Another AA quality mid makes it very difficult to shut our mids out of the game. Add Beams and pray for Elliot and all we need is a key back and some kids to come on.

Tom Browne this morning on Eddie's show said Beams reached out to Bucks a while back and mended fences. Browne said one of the texts messages nearly made Bucks cry.

After hearing that it confirms what I thought when I saw his tv interview with Claye. He has been thinking about coming back for a fair while.

Would love him. But too expensive and Brisbane will be jerks to deal with.

We got one first rounder and a player

Suddenly Beams is now worth 2 first rounders? Pass thanks. We aren't short on mids and we shouldn't ruin the chance to bring onboard quaynor and Kelly

Did Brisbane say he's worth 2 first picks?

No possibility of getting both May and Beamsy to the club?

heck. That GF loss tore my heart out. Beams leaving was a kick in the guts too.

With Tommy going, we need to fill our boots with some quality players and gear up for a tilt at redemption.

Beamsy has a solid record against the Eagles. He missed out on 2011 GF because of injury.

Get him here, and see how hungry the b@stard is.
