It's been noticeable for weeks now ever since they bought the 'split' interpretation that 50s don't get paid for protected area infringements anymore, this is regardless of whether a split occurred or not. Players run solo past the ballcarrier and you don't see it whistled now.

Last week we saw GC get done 50 for overstepping the mark that never was and now last night Crows copped the same - I can only imagine with 2 howlers in a row the AFL will privately tell umpires to can that one for all but the most egregious of infringements.

Despite the AFLs big talk about cutting down on time wasting there have only been a couple paid for this that were particularly obvious, players are still given an eternity to slow down their oppo with no consequence.

Umpires also stuffed up the dissent 50s so that's gone too now.

Therefore late hits and not giving the ball back are your main sources of 50.

Running alongside all of this is the media scrutiny on how 'harsh' 50m penalty is in the modern game and to replace with 25m.

25m penalty, combined with the stand rule still gives teams a fair attacking advantage so my overall question is - how long do you think it will be until the AFL scraps the 50 entirely? Or will they make everything else 25m and keep late hits as 50m penalties as an extra deterrent?

Jack Graham got away with exactly what the GC & Crows players got pinged for. Just random bizarre consistency.

Bring back the 15m penalty? Being serious for a moment, it seems the umpires have no clue as to what constitutes a 50m penalty
