Christian Salem knocked himself out with a brick in his bag, and he ADMITTED THAT HE DID NOT PACK HIS BAG PROPERLY. That's his fault, he is an AFL player and can't follow instructions. Tyson injured his knee, well too bad, you can get injured by bloody running.

Summary: Salem's injury could have TOTALLY been prevented if he PACKED HIS BAG PROPERLY. If you can't pack a bag don't play AFL. This is all Salem's own fault.

This leaves us with Tyson. So that is 1 unexpected injury from training, unlike Salem's.

This means there was only 1 injury from training (Salem's doesn't count because he literally didn't pack his bag properly and it's not from training either).

1 injury. And the players are pulling out of it.

Jesus Christ, they are playing AFL, they are bring paid average 300k to play and train, and they are pulling out of a training camp because of Salem's dumb injury which was totally his fault and Tyson's only injury from the actual training.

To me the players are just using the injuries as an excuse to get out of all the shit they have to go through which will make them better footballers.

If you can't pack a bag, don't play AFL? You can get injured running? Salems injury doesn't count?

All valid points if you're trying to pass a test to enter a sanitarium.

Pathetic, it’s called mutiny, no wonder they have won no silverware over the last 50plus years, soulless spineless organisation

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Goodwin may as well resign now, he has not got buy-in from the players and they don't want to do the hard yards now that ultimately lead them to be premiership hardened.

As for the bleeding hearts on this thread who agree with the players decision, don't venture out into the real world either.

That doesn’t make any sense at all.

They have opted NOT to be faux tough by not doing this faux tough guys camp
Oh no it does. THey act tough on the field and love to throw cheap shots and bobble head around but when it actually comes to being tough like winning games of football to get into the finals or a bit of a tough pre season, they go to water

Of course, this thread is going to be mostly middle aged tough men going on about how back in their day blah blah... Probably mostly couch potatoes who can't run down the block without whinging about breaking a slight sweat.

100% with the players here.

there's tough training and there's unnecessarily cruel risky and training.

Yes they should be training hard, but forcing sleep deprivation etc (like last season) is near torture...It's a Football comp..its not life and bloody death.

I 100% agree. I don't care why they'v cancelled it. But it's *how*. It undermines the coaching department and makes their job harder. And the club's media department has handled this shockingly.

we haven't played finals in 10 years and you have players crying to the union about how hard training is.

Steve Kerr and Michael Jordan clashed because Kerr was a union rep and Jordan was aggressively anti union (more so now that he's an owner).

Kerr compromised with his team specifically because he actually knew they had to go above and beyond to be the best.

Melbourne is now the first club with players that we know of that has cried to the union about training too hard.

It's embarrassing.

I don't care that they skipped the camp, but the more I hear of it, the more pissed I am.
If you'r running to the AFLPA about tough training, when you haven't played finals in 10 years, you'r set for a harsh wake up call when things get REAL tough.
See: Round 23 vs Collingwood.

10 years without finals is nothing, 53 years without a flag is the massive worry. That's huge

Well this is a thing Goodwin needs to address. He keeps saying that past records don't matter. That losing to North for a decade is irrelevant. if that's irrelevant then so is five decades of no flags. He's had some growing pains as a coach. Yes the playing group is different but it's the same club
You need to acknowledge your failures as a club to succeed.

No doubt Dimma embraced that this year with you guys. "Stuff the past...but it matters. Let's rewrite history".

Not "The past is irrelevant."

The past being irrelevant is true, just like to bloke in your avatar, he wanted out of Melbourne and wanted to go to Richmond, we said NO and knocked him back, six flags later, happy days

I think it is a reflection of an ingrained problem down at Melbourne, and that is, when the going gets tough this football club does not want to stick it out. I see it in Melbourne games, and I know my club isn't perfect, but for years Melbourne have shirked the task when the pressure is on. Its not that they aren't up to it - its that they are not willing.

I've always felt Roos wanted Goodwin as his successor knowing the guy wouldn't be up to it as a senior coach (which would further enhance his own tenure/legacy).
The dees are too talented to miss the 8 with a healthy list but I can't see them fulfilling all their potential under this 'good stuff' simpleton.

This is just plain stupid.

Your intelct is amazing, i'm so sorry I didn't idiotproof my comment...

Can you give me "factual" evidence of Melbourne going to the AFLPA to "INFLUENCE" a club decision?

PS sending a news headline used to sucker in morons who can only read in one sentance bursts will only benifit my point.
Intelct?

My Spinal Tap irony meter just pegged at 11.

I'm looking forward to Melbourne players once again proving hoW tough they are to the wider footy world by sniping blokes behind play, landing cheap shots, diving and flopping around, getting in twitter fights with ex cricketers who are passing comment on their antics. Who needs a boot camp when you're this tough already?
