Hey guys and gals

Thanks.

That would be the dumbest thing the club can do, re-signing him. Just let him go. Even if get gets scot free, he's burnt multiple chances with the club.

Totally agree mate but if he has a cracker of a year next year, we will probably re-sign him.

He's a 25 year-old footballer in NYC, partying with a mate after two pretty shitty years (yep, he's 'worked' and earned good money, but it's all relative). Sure, he may have done the wrong thing, and hopefully that will get sorted out over there and he'll have to cop the consequences. But to demand that he be sacked back here? Ridiculous. The game's so bloody boring at the moment. It's crying out for more characters. Even 'bad boys'! I'd have him down at Geelong.
Is your definition of a "character" a repeat offender in the low grade behaviour category? - I'd classify the following sports people as characters - Merv Hughes, Max Gawn, Dipper, Doug Walters, Dennis Lillee etc - no doubt there's many more

And its not like the club had a culture problem is it?
If it was a yearly ongoing occurrence where main offenders were dragging in young innocents, then I’d say it was a culture problem. But if it’s the odd player every now and again, I’m not sure I’d call it a culture problem (unless those players keep re-offending) would bculture problem.

Just made it easier to not resign him. Where there’s smoke there’s fire. Cut our losses now and get what we can at the end of 22. There’ll be some club that will offer him a mint and they’ll say the have the culture to look after him. Let’s do a swap with the Suns for King.

Love that assaulting women makes you a character. JFC

If you think assault means someone has 'character' then you need to get your head checked.

That brother in law is going to be earning his money in contract negotiations, leverage with other clubs and $ being talked about has plummeted.

An expensive night in NYC

JDG's previous indiscretions - small, medium and large - at the very least point to someone with poor judgement, self-control and character. I hope the facts of this latest 'incident' shift some of the blame from Jordy, but at this stage its a major concern that his 'down time' apparently, alledgedly, involved assault and violence.

And now we have the club - for good reasons I'm sure - trying to help him from afar and once again, someone else is cleaning up a mess of Jordy's making.

Gonneeeee

Hoping wasn’t much In it for victims sake and she’s ok. Along with the guy who got bottled ?

Only way JDG comes out of this is if the other bloke was all the doing of it. Which is unlikely

If he manages to not be guilty of it. The club should move him on end of next year. Or offer him a really average contract

I know what you're saying, but there's no denying the appeal of guys like De Goey. For all the people on here wishing to sanitise footy, and life in general, even further, there are plenty like me who secretly admire 'bulls' like Ablett, Hall, Tyson and De Goey. They've got 'balls'! It ain't PC or woke, but it's real life.

Really '76???

The facts have come out. in fact they stick out like dogs blls.

Jordan De Gooey placed himself in almost exactly the same position which resulted in him being charged in Australia and did that shortly after escaping the first charges due to the victim not wanting to go through with the charges.

It's not the offences or public misbehaviour that are the problem here - it's the plainly demonstrated belief that he can act as he pleases and escape the consequences.

He's a ratbag and and arrogant one at that.

We don't have the facts yet we have a story. If the story turns out to be factual De Goey's behaviour is inexcusable. But I think we need to be patient until we know what actually happened.

What a way to out yourself holy-moly

What if the video evidence shows that he was trying to break up the fight?

What if the charges are withdrawn?

What if video and witness testimony shows that nothing happened except a couple of lads out having a night on the town?

We’re discussing this a mere 19 hours after the alleged event happened. Nobody really has any idea what actually happened. What’s the rush to jump to conclusions?

If the alleged charges are sustained, then of course he is in trouble.
'76 what if's don't apply here.

Of course we know what happened - Jordan got himself off his face in a public place AGAIN, he was involved in an altercation with a member of the public AGAIN and he had an issue with a female member of the public AGAIN.

Just a few short weeks after being cleared of a similar incident here in Australia.

How many times does it have to be said????

Jordan displays either an incredible arrogance or near criminal stupidity in believing he can get away with this sort of behaviour.

No mention of criminality from me . . .

Just crass stupidity or overbearing arrogance.

As our premiership window is years away do you have any decent players under the age of 32 that we can swap you with?

I am not going to join the 'sack him' chorus because I cannot imagine what the next couple of years of barracking for a club that finished 2nd bottom will be like without De Goey. I don't subscribe to the 'footballers should be role models' theory. I want the best players available to represent us and would hope that the club is able to accommodate a variety of player types, provided their personal lives do not adversely affect their on field play. Dane Swan was retained despite that very unflattering incident in which he was one of 3 people who savagely bashed a cleaner. He became a fan favourite and seemed to gain a level of control over his life.

If a serious conviction forces the club's hand and De Goey has to be sacked, then so be it. Otherwise, it seems a double jeopardy situation where he is also being held accountable by the club for alleged actions in his personal life. Given AFL players' high salaries and relatively short breaks between playing and training and down time, they are probably among the least likely people to lead squeaky clean lives when they are off leash and off-shore.

In the event of De Goey being cut from the list, I hope that Wright, McCrae and others front up to the Sier residence with a bouquet of flowers and an 'All is forgiven' card with a smiling bear on the cover and offer to redraft or rookie him.

I don't want to spend the next few seasons watching the Brown brothers as the major cogs in our clearance machine, with neither of them capable of doing anything particularly inspirational or even useful with the ball by foot if they are fortunate enough to get their hands on it.
