As a Brisbane fan I hope he's a roaring success. Be nothing better than seeing Sydney with some good sized crowds.

valid point, although IMHO a flaw in the australian sporting landscape. sydney/nsw are the most populated region in the country, yes. but does that mean the league/people want them to win the title regularly so as to get high attendances?the national bball league suffered from this.

in season 1 i got the impression this was the case with sfc getting a lot of media attention on fox sports, and who can forget harper practically boofing everyone when the final whistle went.

anyway, looking forward to DP rocking up!

Still can't quite believe he's signed. Not much of an A League fan but will definitely be heading out to some matches this season.

I remember attending Sydney v Melbourne towards the pointy end of the season a few years back and the atmosphere was awesome with the stadium about 2/3 full. A packed stadium with number 10 running around? Yes please.

There has always been a massive bias towards Sydney FC on Fox, no way they were going to lose that first grand final with Uncle Frank pulling the strings. The smug prick Michael Cockerill and Andy ****ing Harper are shocking for not hiding their bias. We need a succesful Sydney FC in the league for the sustainability of the league but not when they're an FFA puppet team. How much of a millions going to ADP came from Frank's wallet you think.

I think Harper was a director of the club at the time so his bias is natural I guess. I think the media are always keen for either Victory or Sydney to do well as it normally means bigger crowds...annoying if you don't follow those sides but it does make it even more satisfying when you add commentators tears to opposition supporters and players...

That's what makes it sweeter for teams like us, the reds and Mariners making the big one from time to time. We don't seem to win mind but it seems it takes more effort from us.

I just remembered too that Glory are playing their regional game against Sydney FC in Kalgoorlie in March. A world cup winner and general legend will be playing in 40 degree heat in red dust being watched by blokes in singlets...that's long way from Turin Alex.

After the game he might go down to the two-up school and whack a few billiion lira on heads.

The Football Australia fan in me wants him to be a success, but the Melbourne fan wants him to be an abject failure.

However signing an older big name player doesn't always bring instant success, does it Harry...
difference is that Alessandro Del Piero was captain of Juventus in their championship winning season this year, 2011-2012.. So still playing at the highest level, also playing champions league football, and still scoring goals.. while harry hasnt played at the highest level since 2008..

It'll certainly be interesting to see the effect of Del Piero on Sydney's crowds, they're notoriously a bit fair weather over there, will be interesting to see if he has a reasonable impact which will actually be sustained over a period of time.

Hopefully the Del Piero signing kicks Melbourne Victory in to gear to get a proper marquee next season. Would love Michael Owen.

Still can't believe that the A-League have actually lured this absolute superstar of the game, even at his age. One of if not the most skillful, intelligent and graceful players I have ever seen.

As a Juventus and SFC fan, this is an amazing feeling. I got a text from my brother a few days ago telling me that Del Piero might be signing with SFC, couldn't believe it and didn't think it'd really happen.

So proud of this club for getting such a big name, and such a quality person at the same time.

Far out, Kalgoorlie? Does that even have much of a footballing community? Surely somewhere like Mandurah, Bunbury, or my old neck of the woods Albany, would be better.

And is that his only visit to WA?

Just the worldwide attention that it'll bring the league itself will be worth it. I guarantee prior to the announcement, nobody in Italy had ever heard (or even bothered to care about) football in this country. The signing will help with the credibility, and I guarantee, he will be in good shape and will give a very good account of himself
