They play over here just after new year too. The regional game for Glory will either be in Kalgoorlie or if not there then Darwin. A fair few will make the trip up to Kal. They should get 5000 at least.

This is huge for Australian Soccer. Aussie Soccer fans who dont follow A-League are more likely to go to Sydney games to watch him and with the likelyhood of the Socceroos not making the next world cup this is the sort of thing that needed to happen to keep interest in the sport. Would be on huge coin

c'mon mate, a bit of faith.

3 of the last 5 are at home. Granted that the two toughest matches are away but still plenty of games to decide which 2 teams in the group automatically qualify.

And then if they finish 3rd, there are still playoffs against the 3rd-placed team in the other Asian group. Winning that, the Asian team proceeds to the intercontinental playoff against the 5th placed South American team. Definitely a tough route should Australia go down this road, but the important thing is opportunities to qualify still exist.

Great signing, but don't get your hopes up about improved crowds. This is Sydney FC we are talking about. Let me tell you, it is no drawing card, not in its own city anyway. It may attract a slightly higher average home crowd, but I'd be very surprised to see full houses in Sydney, maybe in the local derbies but that's it.

Unless it is Australia trying to qualify for the world cup in a must win game or Beckham with all the teeny bobbers, Sydneysiders don't give two hoots about watching the game live.

They're definately fickle. They've gotten decent crowds for the Victory games when they're both playing for something. They should be expecting an average of 15-20k a game if that.

It'll get a significant proportion of the Italian community and others with an interest in football in Europe who don't attend SYD matches through the gates. There is still a large untapped market within the new borders of SYD territory, and metropolitan wide despite the entry of WSW.

It may not all be maintained following Del Piero's contract with the club, but getting them to the game allows them to immerse and enjoy themselves at a SYD gameday which may have them returning once he leaves. First and foremost, you need to get folks to come and experience it. If they like it, they may comeback or become new lifelong SYD fans. If they never attend, they'll never know. That's what this signing will facilitate.i

Likewise, t'll also do great things for promoting the A-league and the clubs in the markets of the other clubs. It will give all clubs in the league the opportunity to attract and attempt to maintain new fans.

Yep. If they get another 3,000 at every game, you'd think at least 800 will stay as hardcores, and another 1,000 would come a few times a year. Admittedly, not huge numbers, but we need to cherish the fans we get.
