Will we take any?

Will we take any?

Probably not. Got 2 father sons to nail down & I think we will probably look at promoting Smith.
Wouldn't mind a look at Richards but Dekka knows his worth far more than me. I think we may hang on to the draft picks.

Stupid not to promote Mason Cox with so many talls gone and no back up ruckman.
If we promote him to the Senior list, we have to carry his inflated salary on the books. Smart thing is to leave him on the Rookie list as long as possible. He'll get his chance to play without the need to upgrade him prematurely

I don't reckon we need Henderson, Litherland or O'Shea nearly as much as we need Richards. We have zero tall forward backup. I would also look at Fitzpatrick, we need a backup ruck. Can you put a DFA straight on the rookie list?

Nathan Brown was in the best 22 on the AFL for disposal efficiency in 2016 with almost 85%.

That goes to show how ****en useless the DE stat is!
Brown played deep and dink kicked 15 metres some of the others played a lot further up the ground less space to kick into. Teams let brown have that kick cause they knew it wasn't gonna hurt them and if they were quick enough and made him kick long there was a good chance they would get the pill back

You also have to consider other stats as well brown averaged 10 disposal for 110 metres no wonder he hit at 85% I could hit at that distance

Rookies can play though can't they?

I know SFA but my understanding is that a rookie can only play (be elevated to the AFL list proper) if he is replacing a player moved to the long term injury list.

If they run with a senior list of 38, then two rookies can be "nominated" to fill spots 39 and 40, which makes them eligible for senior selection without the need for an LTI.

Wasn't the "nominated rookie" allowed in place of two "veterans" ........a classification which I think has now been scrapped?

Lots of AFL capable DFA's this year more than I can ever remember. We would be silly not to take advantage of this. We will us our first 3 picks in the NAB draft - two being FS hopefully. This means then it is either picks some DFA's or late picks starting at #62.

Lets be honest at the end of the day pick 62+ is 50/50 at very best to play an AFL game. With DFA you know what you are getting and can target what you need, I think it is the smart and safe play given we have some list insecurities, unless there is a big slider I don't see a speculative draft pick being much help at this stage.

No, there is still a Veterans list. Now it is just the clubs can nominate as many players that qualify and 1.229% of the total player payments are excluded from the Total Player Payments (salary cap) per player, which is a bit over 100k, which will most likely change with a new agreement being arranged soon.
