He is actually a good young player. I never said he was a super star! And yes were are in this 2 win premierships!
Yeah he's a good player. SO good he couldn't get a game for a bottom side in WCE and can't get a game for a middle-of-the-road side in desperate need of KPP at either end of the ground.

He was always behind MacKenzie Schoefield Brown Glass etc. He also did play the last 6 games of the year for Sydney, including the two finals, so don't say he couldn't get game

Yeah he was always behind them when they were at the bottom of the ladder. Great player, hey?

With Syd he was in a team who lacks KPP's and he is a KPP in his 5th season, yet it took him until round 16 to get a game before getting immediately dropped. What makes him even more impressive is that he got dropped after 'starring' against GC.

Didn't lose out too badly. We took Savage with our first pick before Garlet was taken.

Would have been nice though.
Sorry but that is not correct Shane Savage was taken late in the main draft and Jeff Garlett was taken in the rookie draft. He was asked to train with the Hawks after he was not picked in the main 2008 draft.

I feel we have delisted too many players . . . our list looks pretty short

I think the guys we traded (Renouf, Lisle and even Sierakowski) were all closer to getting a game than those we delisted (Ladson, Morton, Williams).
However, apart from Renouf none of the others would have been picked in the firsts unless our injury list was catastrophic.

Conversely, Gunston appears likely to play a fair number of games because of his versatility and Boumann's form at Box Hill was better than Lisle's in 2011.
I am not confident that Boumann will be a regular but he will provide as much depth as Lisle did last year.

It is probably unlikely that any of our 2011 draftees will play AFl next season but we can reasonably expect that guys like Hallahan, Litherland, Langford, schneider, Lowden and Grimley will all start to put some pressure on the usual encumbents.

Obviously, I don't think we have lost much and indeed have probably gained with the trades/delists.

For all those msg's to me about not nominating for draft 1 answer .... No interest so no point! Maybe pre season draft! Thanks 4 ur support

That is a bit sad.

He was a quite useful depth player last season for the hawks playing 10 games. He started the season quite well polling 6,6 and 5 PCM votes in the frist three games but then his form tailed off and spent the latter part of the season at BH.

If he doesn't get picked up I'd like to see him retained at BH to provide on field leadership and coaching for the younger players. In fact it would not hurt for the HFC to sling the BHH a few $100k to recruit retain a few ex AFL footballers with wiser heads and hardened bodies to give the kids a bit of protection against the top line, bigger bodied sides eg Port & Nth Ballarat. Also these players could provide guidance and leadership by example for the kids.

Ordo I reckon you will find there's a salary cap in VFL, and it's not all that much.

I am using your post out of context but in fact I reckon our list is too short.

If you exclude ruckmen we only have 7 players of genuine KPP size which many define as 192cm plus. They are Franklin, Roughead, Gilham, Schoenmakers, Birchall, Gunston and Boumann. Of those, Birchall is not a KPP, Gunston at this stage of his development is a third tall/flanker and then jury is still out on Boumann. So our stock of proven KPPs is down to four assisted by two 189cm defenders (Stratton and Gibson) who can play tall.
In the next two drafts we need to add a couple of guys around 195/6 cms who can be developed over 3-4 years and provide us with some depth and succession planning.

It is much easier to get mids and flankers who are ready to go in a year or two but KPPs are much harder to come buy and based on our experience with Dowler, Thorp and Lisle there is a pretty high attrition rate.

Spangher was injured for most of the season which is why he wasnt selected until round 16. When he did get on the park he made an impact up forward.

I'm not going to pretend that he'll be anything more than an 18 -22nd ranked player at best, but he was pretty good late in the season and goes in very hard for a big guy.

He wasn't dropped after the Gold Coast game either, he actually injured himself again after being one of our better players on the night

Perhaps you should do a bit of research before posting on a player that you obviously know nothing about
