At the Swans:
Warfe

We'll have to find another two (maybe more if we trade), out of:
Malceski
Sunqvist
James
Fixter
Ablett
Mieklejohn

Disagree with Ablett and Meiklejohn. Ablett is improving like hell and Meiklejohn will be needed when ball retires (very soon) and doyle gets injured again.
Warfey just retired so no need to worry about that.

I largely agree with that (although NOG hasn't really shown much and has had chances). The problem is that in that case, we've got to get rid of 3 from:
Malceski
Sundqvist
James
Fixter
...so who goes? - James or Fixter? That's an ugly question for many Swans supporters.

Out -
Sunqvist
Hunt
Fosdike
Warfe

Promoted -
Bevan

Plus three recruits.

Maybe MeikleJohn out if we can get a pick to recruit one of the ruckman in this years draft... trade Fossie + Sunny/MeikleJohn for pick 10 or so.Use that on a ruckman.

MeikleJohn onto rookie list. Maybe say goodbye to Powell?

Hunt is a rookie, so delisting him doesn't help.
Fossie would be worth a 2nd round pick at best, whilst Sunny/MeikleJohn are worth nothing at the trade table (we're talking about delisting them, afterall ;) )
As for Mielkjohn, Powell, etc. well they're our developing talent, so I have difficulty cutting them loose after just a couple of years (in which they've already got senior games), but yes, it may come to that.

Fremantle delistings:

Waterhouse
Cunningham
Doswell
Crowley
Haines
Edgecumbe

Elevated from Rookie list:

Dodd (already elevated)
Smith (already elevated) - Once your elevated can you be returned to the rookie list???
Colreavy (will be elevated to be retained on list)

Here lies the problem, does the list have to be trimmed to 35 after trading? My question is do the veterans count towards the 35? How exactly does it work?

From what i understand (correct me if i'm wrong), a rookie listed player can only be rookie listed for 2 years. Then he is either elevated or delisted. (Dodd and Colreavy). Once a player is elevated (Smith) can he be returned to the rookie list?

Total list can be up to 44 players which comprises senior listed players plus veteran listed players plus rookies.

Vet lists can be included on the 38 to allow 6 rookies. I think your senior list plus veteran list can be no more than 40.

With regard to Murphy's second season, maybe they meant "second half of first season". Been very ordinary for 8-10 weeks except the North game. And we can't delist Davies since he's only a rookie.

I think promoted rookies go back to the rookie list at the end of the season, because the LTI players are back on the list again, and then that club has first dibs if they want to promote them.

So do promoted rookies get promoted before or after the total list reaches 38. Well 35 actually, because you have to draft a minimum of 3 players.

So if we promote 3 rookies for next season, will our list have to go down to 32 pre draft or 35?

PS What are the criteria for becoming a veteran listed player?

Rookies are promoted to the senior list before the draft takes place. You must have a maximum of 35 players on the list at draft time. Your list does not have to be 38.

List has to be at 35 or less at Draft time

10 years service at the club. Parker qualifies at the end of this year.

Currently fremantle have 39 senior listed players.

6 delistings and 3 rookie elevations bring us to 36 players. Parker and McManus? are veteran listed. Down to 34.

Connolly is probably interested in bringing 2 or 3 WA midfielders home. Which would take us above the maximum of 35. I can see why McManus was being touted as a possible delisting earlier in the season.

Fremantle will definately surprise come trade week. One or two players are likely to be traded given the circumstances.

If Macca can go on the vets list my argument is void. Just saying that retaining Macca would limit the no. of rookies we can elevate.

A lot of players are contracted to the dockers next year. Making the maximum of 35 players predraft very hard to achieve. Especially since exchanging picks for players adds to the total. Throw in the rookie elevations plus the possibilites of a no. of players returning to WA, makes the 35 max difficult to achieve. Hence delistings will be ripe.

I think that 2 or 3 players will be traded or delisted unexpectedly.

For the Swans:

Warfe has retired

Meiklejohn should go - I can't see him being an AFL standard ruckman, tho if Ball retires soon we may get caught short if Ericksen doesn't develop quickly enough

Powell hasn't quite developed as far as I would've hoped - 50/50 chance for him

The timing of Sundqvist's knee injury is unfortunate - he may be one of the unlucky ones

Heath James has managed to stay injury free, but hasn't been able to cement a place in the 22, even tho we are light on for key defenders - may have used his last chance

Ben Fixter can play - but the fact is, he's played 3 games in 2 years due to injuries - could be one of the unlucky ones

Malceski's knee injury was also unfortunate timing, but this was only his second year on the list, and he had showed some promise in the pre-season, he will probably be retained

Daniel Hunt is not on the senior list - he is only a rookie, delisting him will not free up a spot

Matthew Nicks is playing good football this year, could be an outside chance to call it quits, but unlikely - likewise Jason Ball

Luke Ablett and Nic Fosdike are no chance whatsoever to be delisted - their names may figure in trade talks, but I'd expect them to stay

Paul Bevan will be promoted to the senior list - effectively cancelling out the spot freed up by Warfe's retirement - therefore three of the following: Meiklejohn, Powell, Sundqvist, James, Fixter, Malceski - will have to be delisted - not a choice I'd like to have to make

Likelyhood is one may be re-drafted a la Amon Buchanan last year, and the others maybe a chance to be picked up again in the rookie draft

Ablett? Gotta keep NOG. Fixter I quite like too, but add Fosdike to the list.

Sadly Noggie is somewhat gutless. A great ball-getter when others are going in and diving into the packs. But at games like last night, he was non-existant.

He was my "Lovechild" on RWO. But I'm running out of patience with him. When the going gets tough, he waits till others go in and get the hard footy.

Wonder if Geelong would want him back at all. Would love a player like Joel Corey in return. (Will never happen though.)

That was your problem last time.

While locking up all the duds, you let a good one walk out the front door. :p

D.Teague - 3 Brownlow Votes - Round 16 vs the Kangaroos. :D

Carlton did draft Mick 'Thunderthighs' Martyn when his career was long past gone.

Wasn't happy with letting Teague go but it was a case that he wasn't going to be played in our seniors so might aswell let him move on with his career and trade him for something, unfortunately we didn't get something, we got less than nothing.

I always thought a straight swap between Morrel and McKernan was a good enough offer, both are inconsistant and will never have any real impact in football in the future. I always liked Teague because he was hard at the ball and courageous, doesn't suit Carlton. No wonder he won your B&F. :p

I wouldn't be getting too excited about getting brownlow votes against us this year, the doggies will end up scoring a bag of votes against us and they are not a good side either.

We are an average side this year, still rebuilding the side. But we have a lot of good young kids coming through and our kids in the VFL doing very well, happy with the progress. As long as we stop recruiting known duds like McKernan and S Harvey then I'll be happy.

We are the worst at trading, I hope we just give it a miss. We rarely ever get good market value for the players we trade.

I think you will find that at the start of the year we had one spare spot on the list, which Bevan moved into when the season begun.

So if Warfe retires, and Bevan stays on the senior list, which he will, we will have one spare spot and would only HAVE to get rid of two players.

Time to go ...

Jarrad Sundqvist
Mark Powell
James Meiklejohn (promoted rookie)
Scott McGlone (promoted rookie)

Trade talk:
Luke Ablett
Nic Fosdike
Jason Saddington

swans:

Saddington FOR SURE
james - too many injuries.. wont be picked up
miekeljohn
lewis roberts thomson - just plain crap
craig bolton & maybe nick fosdike..

We never had him to begin with, but he would be a good fit.

Definitely wouldn't trade Corey for him. 21yo 190cm midfielders who average 20+ touches a week are rather valuable.

Would take a lot more for us to move Corey.
