The mental gymnastics.. the delusion.. the sheer headinthesandery.
was just about to post the same post. My hot take:

yo....

I think he stays now. We're not going to cop two second rounders for him, surely.

Connors has stuffed this up big time. Leaked a fake story about a fall out about an exit meeting gone bad and tried to further divide a relationship between Stringer and club that was already on shaky ground. Was arrogant enough to think that big offers would come in. Turns out other clubs do their homework and he and Jake are left to look like an idiots.

This should've been kept in house from the start and I hope they investigate this prick Connors and all agents doing similar things. Why it wasn't the best idea for him to talk Stringer, get him to suck it up and play for a monster contract next year is anybody's guess. Surely that would've been easier than this shit show?

let's recap:

  • Jake is staying
  • Entirely the fault of Connors, because apparently he leaked the story
  • The story, of course, was that the Bulldogs wanted to trade Stringer, but that is irrelevant somehow
  • Connors arrogantly thought he would get big contracts for Jake, as though he was the one instigating the trading
  • Looks like a fool as a result
  • Connors should have spoken to Jake and told him to suck up the fact that he was to be traded by the club, and somehow stay, I'm guessing maybe by begging the club for another chance?
  • Connors should be investigated for trying to facilitate a trade for his player who has been told by his club he is on the trade table

Yeah... that's not completely ****ing nuts or anything

I can't find the results, but I'm pretty sure that the AFL fan survey about "the team you love to hate" had Collingwood comfortably on top like every year. We were second from memory.

Would be interesting if Eddie left and Buckley was replaced with someone like Caracalla if ppls attitude to the Pies would change?
Prob not.

Until he burned me with that wicked swap of 'a' for '@'. That shit threw me.

At first I was like, 'I got this fool', but then the '@' was all up in my face and I was like, 'I can't compete with this next level wickedness'.

Fo' shizzle.

On the one hand reading the various Stringer threads is pretty amusing at the moment, on the other I expect we were exactly the same during the drugs stuff and Ryder leaving so its hard to not feel a little sorry for them.

  1. I understand where they're coming from, I (we) have been there
  2. They can suffer in their jocks

From our friends over at Footscray

What Connors could have said to Jake:
Jake, there is little interest in you. The other clubs have done their research and are not prepared to risk first round picks on you believing you to be a high risk. The offers coming from Geelong and Essendon aren't going to cut it at the minute. And Essendon are running around trying to win 3 quality players with 2 decent picks - its going to be tough.

Best bet is don't cut your bridges with the Dogs. Wherever you go, your going to have to lift. I know your angry with the Dogs but you may need to man up. From a financial point of view - its also your best option to get a mega contract next year. But I'll keep pushing it might get done.

What Connors said to Jake:
The Bulldogs have trashed you, they don't want you. Your a talent Jake. I've got Cooney and my media mates talking your value down. We will get this done. No, you don't need to change anything - Bev is a lunatic. No don't worry, spend some time with that school girl. Here is a couple grand for the TAB.

This from a Tuggers poster:

This kid is over rated.
Sam Lloyd has better career stats than him.
Essendon have done the right thing in not giving up a 1st rounder

some on the Carlolton board bringing the lulz...

Good deal for Essendon.

Strongly disagree, for reasons I've already covered. They've taken risks with Smith and Stringer, and have overpaid for Saad.

Essentially out of the "super draft" as well.

Can't see WB taking 2 x mid to late second rounders though

Overpaid for Saad?

And how exactly are we "out of the super draft" when we have a first and a second round pick?! :D

We've got no choice but to see this through to the bitter end. Essendon have made their "final offer" but there are still more than three days left in the trade period. Essendon and Connors are behaving with far, far more desperation than are the Bulldogs.

From afar, it looks like this morning Connors has blinked. The extraordinary attack on the Bulldogs shows how much he has at stake here. He has gone courting suitors for his client and found the cupboard almost bare. He then tried to pair his client up with a club that is notoriously difficult to trade with and that club then quickly trades away their most valuable trade asset. That club has another valuable asset (the 2018 first rounder) which they have refused to put on the table. Connors knows he is unlikely to find another suitor to make a deal with his client, so I imaging he must be furiously working behind the scenes to pressure Essendon to offer up their 2018 first round pick, whilst simultaneously going on the offensive publicly trying to rattle the Bulldogs and force them to quickly accept a deal.

So what are the Bulldogs options for playing this out, hopefully without being publicly humiliated and destroying our reputation as competent operators:
  1. hold our ground and wait Essendon out, enticing either Essendon or another club to sweeten the deal. Almost any improvement on the current offer of 25 and 30 would save sufficient face to allow us to make a deal; or
  2. we set up a parallel deal which would use the assets offered by Essendon to acquire an attractive player from another club (eg. Schache) and set up the Stringer trade as a three club deal; or
  3. should no improved deal be forthcoming, we take Jake back into the fold and the hard work begins; or
  4. the final alternative is to bend to the pressure we are being subjected to, cut our losses and accept Essendon's current offer.
I suspect we are working hard to find a way to pull off either 1. or 2. above, or perhaps both. I also suspect that option 3 (take Jake back) is our least desirable outcome. I think we'd fold before we'd take Jake back, but I have nothing other than gut instinct to back that call up.
