Demons may re-draft disgruntled defender

If it was McLean, Bailey would be following him, buying him a beer and doing everything he can to get him back. But it wasn't McLean and the best he could muster was a tirade on the way out.

McLean was never a fringe player fighting for a spot with half a dozen other kids and your use of the word 'tirade' suggests you're just trolling.

Whatever helps you sleep at night

Very much so. And the year we get number 1 pick too :(

It's pretty much always weak.

2007 pick 1 David Gourdis Richmond
2006 pick 1 Cain Ackland Carlton
2005 pick 1 Dylan McLaren Carlton
2004 pick 1 Trent Knobel Richmond
2003 pick 1 Jade Rawlings Footsray
2002 pick 1 Stephen Powell St. Kilda
2001 pick 1 PASS St. Kilda

Other than Powell, there's not been great successes in recent times.

Remember this when you go down the woe is me attitude with regards to your team.

We offered him a 2 year contract, but he had to meet certain objectives. He had to play x ammount of games. That's what pissed him off, as Carlton offered him a contract of equal length but minus those stipulations.

We were right to do that, as by the end of that next contract he would have been on an AFL list for 7 years, and if he wasnt cementing his spot by then and playing as many games as possible, then why the f*ck would you want him! He'd been at the club for 5 years, and had done nothing until this year where he had a run of 4 games or so where he got 20-30 disposals, and that was because the ball was coming into our backline non-stop :p Guys like Bartam, Petterd, Buckley, Bell walked into his spot and at least showed something. They all have a tenacity for a contest. CJ is soft a butter, and it's no wonder he could never stamp himself on a game.

The guys a prat anyway. He chucked a tantrum at training, and when Bailey told him to grow up and inform his team mates of his decision, he said f*ck off and left. He was then greeted by some yelling from Bails about thinking about his future, followed by Sylvia and a few other players telling him to f*ck off for turning his back on his friends. That's the last time he met face to face with Melbourne people (as far as anyone knows right now). So you'd say the chances of him being taken back are very slim :p

And hopefully we dont. Waste of a spot.

To expand even further on this CJ cracked the sads in the last game of the season when he felt he over his injury and ok to play but a decision was made to give Jeff white and Adem Yze a send off game instead.

Imagine the audacity of the club to give two champions of the club one final chance to say goobye to the fans instead of a fringe half back flanker.

Obviously CJ is going to fit right in at Carlton, it's a match made in heaven.

Fancy not selecting the best team available.

I reckon this send off game deal is bullshit if they are not worthy of a spot in the side. Why can't players just bow out gracefully?

Buckley was 10 times the player White or Yze was and kept away from all that crap.

White and Yze were clearly in the best 22 for Melbourne, but they weren't being played to give the kids a chance. It was the final game of the year that they did the right thing and played their best side.

Why the hell do Carlton want a soft half back flanker who's officially played 2 good games in 5 years - and one of them was a practice match against wooden spooner Richmond last year.

What a waste of a draft pick for Carlton.

Carlton will be seriously struggling next year if Johnson scams a game for them.

As if that would worry Carlton. They'll only need another brown paper bag to be able to pay him. Vi$y might be able to offer him a role with them?

Carlton have paid over the odds for Warnock, let them pay over the odds for Johnson as well. With Judd and Fevola on their list, not to mention a heap of young first round draft picks who will soon enough be earning big coin, I'll watch with interest to see how they fit them all under the salary cap.
Funny, Freo and their supporters kept telling us we well under the odds. Took all week to make a trade.

Sounds like someone here is full of sh!t.

Who needs Johnson. If Melbourne want him they can have him. Yep, really hurt if we don't get him.

Back in your box.

So why are the Dee's thinking about re drafting him????

I agree, however in a team that was clearly the worst in the competition it's difficult to build an argument that states that White and Yze wasn't included in the 'best available' category.

Go back and look at CJ's record over the last 4 or 5 years, he was a fringe player who struggleg to get a spot.

Connolly taking the piss out of everyone. We won't be going near him. It was just to give Johnson a bit of a scare.

The bloke's barely VFL standard, anyone who saw that laughable youtube package of Johnson would attest to that.

5 pages of crap suggests you may be wrong.

You're right though, he's a depth player.

Fair enough, as a Carlton supporter I dont really care, I havent seen enough of him to really make a judgement, however it didnt sound like he set Demon land alight

Wont happen.

Probably not, and it'd be a shame for Chris if it did. I don't think he'll be the difference between us winning a premiership or not but I'm guessing it wouldn't be the greatest environment to work in over at the Dees.

Still he'd get the contract he wanted in the end, and he'll likely get more opportunities at Melbourne in the long term than at the Blues so it could be good for him... who knows?

Lol excuse me. Isn't this why he's leaving the club?

Even his manager Liam Pickering came out and said that.

Maybe he feels wanted by Carlton, while at Melbourne they were trying to cheapskate him and gave him a dogey contract.

Logically however you'd think he'd get more games at Melbourne than at the Blues given the relative state of our lists.

Got to wonder why Carlton would even want him, where do these guys get the idea that they are God's gift to football?
Wait ... what?

We think we are god's gift to football because we are prepared to offer a contract to a fringe Melbourne player?

Yup, I see. Meanwhile we need a rule change to get Cousins to Tigerland.

I am sure there is something logical in that statement for you ... it's just that I failed to find it.

As to why we want him ... well who the hell knows the answer to that. Seems a lot of trouble over nothing really. I'd suggest that former Dees coach Riley and former assistant coach Ratten might have something to do with it though. They must like the bloke.
