i mean he over uses them every match he works on 7. it wouldn't surprise me if 7 told him to do that as well. he is a better commentator when he just calls the game and when the game he is calling brings out his 1 liners. he just uses them every sentence these days
Exactly my thoughts, he seems to be believing his hype and overdoing it. Was funnier when he was more hit than miss.

I was fond of a comment he made towards the end of the Dogs/Pie game.

Didak had the ball and was weighing up his options, and Bruce said something along the lines of "He's always thinking, Didak"

To which Dennis responded

"I'd imagine he is one of the only players to put his head in a bucket of ice after the game."

Dynamite line - both very clever, and a hilarious mental image.

My nomination, 2nd quarter Collingwood v Western Bulldogs - comment as TV panned to the Stands to see a not happy Smorgan brought the immortal line from Dennis Commetti

' Stunned Dog Millionaire'

Pure Gold!:D

he said an absolute corker in the first quarter of the Collingwood v Western Bulldogs game. I cant remember what it was, but it was so perverted nobody laughed.....

after Ben Johnsons goal, he said "beware the bending johnson"

in reference to beware of guys with bent penises!

i was just like
icon_eek.gif
infront of the tv when he said that

Also on Friday night, when he said "both these sides going extremely wide tonight, avoiding the corridor. Let's call that the Nate Myles effect". Followers of Rugby League (or watches of sports news I guess, it got decent coverage) like me would find that commentary quality.

Last year some time when the Shaw brothers were both with us, can't remember it word for word but his comments on a string of passes between them.

"Heath Shaw... to Rhyce Shaw, to unsure..."

loved a replay/teaser on Triple M the other day when BT was calling a Davis goal and he said "And Davis kicks long to put the nail in the coffin" and the Chief Dunstall replied, "Oh Brian, nail in the coffin? The man has been using a nail gun for the last half an hour!"

Talking about the cricket on 3aw yesterday, Commetti said :- According to those who worry about such things, Marcus North has beaten East, West and South to become the first point on the compass to play Test cricket.

With Freo going from bad to worse against Adelaide, the camera panned to the coaches box:

Commetti: Looks like the Bates' family motel.

Melbourne player plays on, nearly gets caught then handpasses to a team mate under heaps of pressure.

Dennis: "Thats like a hunting trip with Dick Cheney!"

Cometti should stop trying to look for opportunities to use his one-liners because his best calls are often the most spontaneous! He's one of the best at summing up the state of the game and knows just when to take his commentary up a notch when the match intensity level rises.

He was malfunctioning at the 'G' on Sunday. Jurrah went up high for a spectacular grab and then missed the easy set shot for goal. Cometti rationalised the miss by saying "the airbags had deployed..." (silence) "the oxygen masks dropped down..."
Oh. Hope he got tuned up and is ready to go for Friday night football.

Still probably better than listening to Bruce describe Jurrah and Naitanui as "exotic"...I've never really had a problem with Bruce, but it's a cringe-worthy degree of patronising that he's going to now. I think he's lost the plot.

"Word is this guy is the most reliable kick for goal in the side. They say down at Collingwood if you had to have someone kicking for your life, Tarkyn Lockyer would be the man . . ." Cometti: "I'd prefer my mum . . ." (Silence) Cometti: "Not a great footballer but at least she'd care."

Travis Cloke, alone in the square, jumping up and down and waving his arms like they're playing My Sharona"
