I've got a great design idea..just build the bloody thing, and let the WCE memberships reach their full potential!
Won't happen. How big is your waiting list? I remember reading some numbers, and, with a 60,000 capacity ground being in Perth for 2013, you'd still have a waiting list. I sincerely think 70,000 is the way to go. This stadium won't be playable for nine years, in my opinion, and 60,000 just isn't enough. The Eagles should be able to accomodate 45,000 members and 15,000 general addies and walk-ups. Fremantle, by then, will probably have 45,000/55,000 members as well.

But it's all about demand and supply. The less people with guaranteed seats, the longer that Perth footy fans will have to scrounge out $40 for Fremantle vs Western Bulldogs. It's completely archaic and insane. Freo members have to ask for special consideration to be able to sit with more than two or three family members. It's insane. A 15-year old Freo fan should be able to go with his Eagles supporting mates to see a match as a neutral. There's absolutely demand for it. I'm 18, and I remember sitting in the changerooms after a game, Freo were on later that day. A few guys (neutrals) were keen to join a mate and me, but they wouldn't have gotten a ticket with us, and weren't up for paying $40 even if they could.

It should be 70,000. Have the upper level general admission. That way, members of Freo and West Coast can allocate a seat for a season (higher price) or a guaranteed general admission for a season.

Just on the topic of waiting lists and member numbers, I predict that some people will cancel their memberships when the clubs move to the new stadium. Perth being Perth, there will be a whole load of petty reasons to hate the new stadium, particularly the need to catch public transport and mingle with the great unwashed in order to get there. Not every member will carry over to the new stadium.

For every one who cancels a membership there will be 6 waiting to jump in and grab it..won't be an issue

Very well written. Also could add that unless we accommodate for young kids going to the footy there is a good chance that we will lose a generation of footy fans to other more accessible sports or other forms of entertainment.

Sorry but I dont buy this lost generation stuff, TV drives the general interest not attendance at the games. This is based on my observations of footy fans over a couple of generations, interest picks up & wanes for many private life reasons, e.g education, the opposite sex, kids & work.

I suggested fans might take their kids to NAB cup games & was poo-hooed.No 2nd best for these people, its just they want someone else to pay.

Mindless desire for bigger stadium whilst ignoring the cost suggests many of these proponents are yet to take a step into the real world, yet to be weaned from Mum & Dads pocket.

Lets reduce player payments so your mate who reckons a game is not worth $40 can get a seat - you are in FantasyLand, would he pay $19.99??

I think it would be a good idea to have the "Big Day Out" at the new stadium.Due to that it won't annoy any residents near by.Public transport will be greatly better than the showground's station.BDO can finish later cos there is no light curfew.BDO will have a permanently(sp) have a home.

I know this may seem obvious to some people.

What happens to seats that members would usually fill but don't attend? Interesting to note that WCE home attendances reached over 40k only 4 times last year and never maxed out so those seats could of been filled by general public.

I think membership should be capped at 50k when the new stadium comes in. Bound to be some drop off soon anyway.

The ALP bloke on the radio this morning has just said that they will cancel the stadium at Burswood and build something at KP instead.

So who are we voting for now ????? :p

I have criticised the Liberal party for their efforts and projections (IMO validly).
Does that mean I'll vote Labor?

At the moment both parties are selling trains not stadia.
When one party comes out and categorically says it's a basic election pledge, set in concrete, with a time frame, costings and priority then they'll have my vote.

That's as close as we're going to get before the election.

def not keen on labour now. to stop such a great oppurtunity for a decent stadium as well as throw away all that money spent is political suicide.

see you in 2017.

There was a lot of money spent on the investigation of the options prior to the current government taking office. They threw that report in the bin and chose Burswood as the only option.

Fortunately, that information is still online: http://www.dsr.wa.gov.au/multipurposestadium

I think if we do change Government they will probably find that if they do move the location that it is likely that we will have to pay Packer a sum of money that may cancel out any potential savings.

You obviously didn't read the report, as it didn't make any recommendation as to where to put the stadium - it merely listed the pros and cons of each site proposed. Although it was pretty clear that it said Cockburn was a shit place to put it.

You could very easily have read the report and come to the conclusion that Burswood was the best place to put the stadium.

And save $300 million.......to put towards the railway

You mean save the $300 million from the Burswood railway expansion... to put towards a $300 million Subiaco rail expansion... for the exact same total stadium cost?

Or are we back at ignoring the rail problems at Subiaco with 70k people cramming through it?

...where is the value from McGowan apart from contrary obfuscation and further delays?
