You should just get the app for a smartphone (if you have one).

Well, I'm not sure whether you can tie the digital authenticator to your account now if you can't access it.. but yeah, that's still an idea. Good luck getting onto them before 5!

Yeah, just gonna create a new account for now with the same details, hope they will merge it later, if not no big loss. And will be using the iphone one from now on.

Authenticator basically provides you with a 2nd password that you need to enter when you login. Once you use it, the password changes so you need to enter in the next password in the sequence next time you log in.

The sequence is only known by the authenticator and the Blizzard servers, so basically the only person that can use the battle.net account is the person holding the authenticator.

If it's anything like an RSA key, the password should change every 15 seconds or so, so even if someone found out the next password, they would need to use it immediately.

Its the exact same system the worlds top banks use.

The only way for someone to hack your account is to have a trojan which detects you typing in the authenticator and then is quick enough to transfer the code to the hacker and simultaneously disconnect the user (so the code isnt sent to blizzard and voided).

They then need to enter your details (Account name, password and then the authenticator key) within 40s otherwise the code wont match.

About as safe as you can get.

45 minutes lads.

Usually you can't even log in with the same key twice.

Thats what i meant about the code being voided. Once the codes been used thats it, therefore the hacker would need to prevent the code being transmitted.

Two questions:

1. How do I change my Battlenet tag or am I stuck with it?
2. Do I need to use the authenticator/mobile authenticator to play?

Cheers.

IIRC you can change your BattleTag once for free (well I did)... but after that it is more restricted and perhaps a paid service.

Highly recommend an Authenticator... Get them for free for most smart phones otherwise it is worthwhile buying one fir security.

Blizzard games attract hackers galore who will try to hack your account, so either get the Authenticator or be extremely vigilant on your PC security and change you password often.

Typical. Considering its a single player game I feel short changed.

"While Diablo III is fully playable solo, without any "raid" type content that requires multiple players to defeat, the D3 Team had co-operative multiplayer as their highest priority all during development."

Its not simply that blizzard 'dont care for australian servers'. Telstra also refused to let them have total control of their servers (which would of been required for them to do maintenance properly). So you can blame Australia too.
