Watched two divvy 2 matches yesterday.
P.Hill Vs Parkside. P.Hill were being toweld up in the 1st half. Parkside seem like a very fit and fast side. SMall down back, but quick, strong in midfield, quick elusive in forward line. Caught last qtr of ressies match. Will Box (7) played 2's. Couple of Ressa guys running round in P'Side two's. Parkside also had a couple of what have been their senior players playing 2's. Maybe their numbers are strong?
Watsy were very dissapointing in what i saw of their 2nd half. With all the pick-ups i thought they would have at least produced something better. Maybe a lot of better players out? Force?
The opposition R.Creek, were a team of Dwarfs, but definetly made watsy look 2nd rate.

Brutal, I am fully aware of the happenings within the DVFL commission, and the previous and current clearance system.
I am in favour of the player being able to dictate where he/she wants to play.
My point is that it is going to be a huge up hill batlle, for the stuggling clubs. The clubs that have survived year by year. Maybe not winning games, maybe not playing in divvy 1, maybe not playing in finals. But having a big old supporter base. Are full of the dedication from volunteers who service the club year in year out. Providing a good environment for players and families.
I could list a huge amount of pro's / con's of many things, in this case the clearnace change.
As could i regarding clubs pro's / con's for attracting and keeping players.
Ala H'Bridge = location , history , commitee , small finacial base. to name a few pro's.
Call me a pessimist, i prefer a realist, but there are going to be quite a few tough times ahead in the DVFL (NFL)
Clubs will now need those players contracts signed prior to each season. And a 1 yr signature will not suffice either.
Clubs may need to ask a junior 17 +, to sign a 3 yr contract. I just dont like the way things are heading.
And i am open to listening to the postivies of the changes.
As to Heild - I could name 4 clubs that in recent yrs have rejected players clearances - taking the maximun to appeal, cancelling out any future clearance for that yr to that club.
Until each and every club get a financial backer - they will struggle to survive.
I am wonerding if this will have a postive or negative effect upon Ammo league?
Also heard Parkside U/19 have folded.
Another avenue for guys to play footy, closed.

Compare the two = 1) A strugging Divvy 1 or Divvy 2 team, low on finances , no financial backer.
They build the family aspect, comraderiship , freiends / mates feeling to attract and keep players.
Day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year the clubs with finanical backers continue to approach and poach these stuglin clubs numbers, eventually depleting their stocks, and forcing the club to fold. Ala Ressa - Fawk Park, and who knows who's next.

2) Old Parade F C. Are a recent living example of the above scenario. They promote family club, clean football, mate/freinds aspect. Better than any DVFL could ever do, seeing the players have attended school together. No finacial backing. DVFL cashed-up clubs continue to approach their players, and eventually get them.
Do their Pro's help them survive? NO. Due to the Ammo section ranking, Parade have been able to drop Sections (From A-grade -to B -to C -Now D1 - almost in as many yrs) and continue. And all this from a club that has the best recruiting ground a club could ever want. Parade College.
A divvy 2 clubs has no where to go, except bottom of divvey 2, then fold.
Ressa didn't even have to be at the bottom of Divvy to to fold. Success couldnt even keep the club aloat.

watsy had more then several starting 18 players out i think

Had a look at Northcote Park v Macleod today. Macleod had at least 8 out of the grand final side from last year with Puffa being the only big in. Northcote Park rested several players early and came home well to just get over the line by 5 points. From what i saw today either Macleod are well on the way to 1st Div or Northcote Park are in for a very long year.

Northcote Parks players were s h i t scared of Puffa. I feel sorry for the full backs from Parkside, Heid West and the like. He'll go close to kicking 20 against them if an injury or report doesn't come first.

Also a whisper one N.Lynch is far away from a return!

A guy looking very similar to Lynch played at Coburg in the curtain raiser this morning

Lot of outs for watsonia on the weekend. Game was used to have a look at the new players we've picked up and how they go at senior level.

Outs included:
T Little
Ace Ventura
S Gibson
B Parker
S Potter
S Hodgson
D Clayton...

...just to name a few. You could throw another 10 in there that will be rotated in and out through the year but the names aren't as recognisable as those above.

Not sure what you and matchwinner are talking about but I never said they were top players, just said that 8 reservoir blokes rocked up to training keen to play. From just watching them train 3 blokes looked really good but game day is a different story. Will see how they go in the practice match on saturday!

matchwinner asked "What are these players like skill wise?"

I am extremly familiar with the restriction that the old 'clearance' system upheld. I have been to appeal, and know that its difficult recruiting players, b/c of the appeal process.
Now it is open slather. The club with the most money, will attract , recruit and poach the best players. Turn into the English Premier League. ala CHelsea and Man U.
ONly positive is that NOW the player is in control of where he wants to play.
Disadvantage - Clubs can't hold players - The weaker clubs will fall by the side and fold, Teams in DVFL will become less. Divvy 2 will be full of Has-beens and juniors. Heidelberg and the next big money spender will always be at the top of the league.

Postivies and negatives. All thats gonna happen is we'll start to lose our good players to a better run league. IE Eastern Footy League.

It in the making

there needs to be some guidelines in place

ie. you can clear 5 players out without restriction
every player after that, you need to have a player cleared in before you can clear 1 out

note: figures used are just example

would stop clubs having large numbers of players walkout. dvfl need to do some research into their clearences to see what figures would work.

Is is true Watsonia were missing 13 players who would usually start in the 1s?

That's correct! The best players were sitting out on saturday. If we had a full strength side it would have been a different story. The coach just wanted to have a look at some new blokes especially those from reservoir. The majority of the players in that team were practically a reserves side.

J&B,
I see on the Monty web site that you only lost to Balwyn by five goals. Do you know how many goals were scored for the day? Did you go? and if so, did plugger have an impact? How about any of the other new recruits?

Parkside FC are looking for practise match on sat 28th april due to Ressa folding. We have our ground available & umpires booked for reserves & seniors. If interested please PM me your details

really disapointed that I was not able to be there...

However full run down from the boys:

Some very promising signs and our best hit-out so far. Balwyn were close to full strength (minus Harford).

Plugger kicked two and gave away a few....

Curtly Swino was very good on a wing...

As explained on the Mont website - Gutto was apparently unstoppable.

No specific news on the recruits (apart from Plugg)- but McGough has been good in the previous games.

Also really, really important that Grimes is back on the track..... looking forward to having a look at H'Berg next week.

Are these players definately returning to North Heidelberg once the DV season starts, or staying up there? Must be very tempting to stay with Echuca United, given their impressive start to the season and the expectation that North will struggle this season.

DIVVY 2 WATCH - Watched Kinglake training last week and then saw them play against Kilmore on the weekend. They were creamed by more than 13 goals. Kilmore, however, are going to be a very good side and, from what some of the supporters were advising, Kinglake weren't at full strength.
Looking ahead to this weekends round of matches Lower are playing Watsonia and I might wander over to see how both teams fare.
