I dont think there is need to be negative about it all. the start is only 2 weeks later than last season, and last season we played through the long weekend anyway. I may not agree with playing on the long weekend but at the end of the day we need to keep the 18 rounds if we can

DVFL SEASON DELAY IT'S OFFICIAL
The drought delays the DVFL season

The start of the Diamond Valley football league season has been rescheduled to May 5th 2007 after league delegates last Monday voted for the new starting date. If significant rain falls during February and March the grass will need time to recover and it is unlikely that the grounds would be fit to play upon in April, however, the situation will be monitored closely. Water restrictions need to be relaxed and that can only happen if we get sufficient rain in the catchment areas.
The changes to the fixture to make it all work will see the division one senior competition play all 18 matches so that each club plays each other twice, the Queen’s birthday weekend and the second split round will no longer be byes with the preliminary and grand finals scheduled for the same weekend as originally programmed (Sunday 16th and Saturday 22nd September)
The drought draw will see the division one first and second semi finals played on the same weekend.(8th and 9th September). The division two competition will see a May 5th start to the season with the last three rounds of the original draw deleted. The division two finals will be played using the same timetable and dates as originally planned before level three water restrictions came into force. It will mean division two clubs will meet each other once for an even draw. Players, sponsors and patrons can enter into contracts with DVFL clubs knowing the program ahead for season 2007
The new draw will be on the DVFL web page later today
The junior/under age draws will be released after nomination day on February 26th

Credit where it's due. I think they have done the best they can with a sh ! t situation. By re-scheduling those three rounds it looks like we will still get all rounds in and that is the most important thing.... hopefully we get a bit of rain so this is not delayed any further. Well done to club delegates and DV for sorting out the most practical solution.:thumbsu:

Good move by the Valley, its early enough to make alterations to the schedule and in the overall scheme of things, not much difference to the original set up. Playing through Queens birthday will be interesting for those who usually go away for the long weekend.

15 games for Divy 2 with 16 teams playing sux a fair bit! So does that mean you only have to win 9 games to cement your spot in the top 6 for finals?? I hope it poors down for 4 weeks straight very soon! You get so pumped to play footy and to have games taken away from you is a real s hit.

Perhaps the Admin may have jumped the gun to appease FV perhaps ?

Hughe call and if they have it wrong will look ordinary....again.

Wasn't just the DV call- was voted on by the clubs & apparently there is a contingency to the motion that the start of the season is 5th May onlny providing that the 14th April is unplayable.

Given we can't even train on our grounds at the moment, I think this is a sensible way to go.

Rumour has it that after many inspirational talks from Andrew Fillipi, Robert "Peck peck" Peckham will be heading to Epping with his mate and mentor, young superstar, Andrew "No Lies" Fillipi.

Yes this has been confirmed by Pecks. The fact that his idol Andrew Filipi will be captain coaching him at Epping convinced him to sign, aswell as the promise of a pair of skins and a 5 cent iPod

Would be interested to hear what other clubs are doing for training considering no DVFL team is allowed to train on their grounds?

15 games for 16 teams means you play each other once, ( you cant play yourself) and last year at the 15 round mark there were 3 teams level on 8 wins for the 6th position. So 9 wins may guarantee a finals spot in divvy 2

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
Mes think that Think Big is being very small minded here. At least the DV admin and the clubs have bitten the bullet and are being more realistic than some other leagues about when the season is likely to start and are not leaving their clubs and supporters hanging by an invisible thread that the season might start some time between now and Many. At least teh DV clubs can plan accordingly not like clubs at other leagues who don't have a definite starting date.

will be hard to get anyone to training now knowing the season is so far away. And with training most likely in a gym or road running, motivation isnt going to be high for the players

I realised that 15 games means every team played each other once, Im just saying it's dissapointing we don't get the extra three because I love playing footy! The AFL has 16 teams and they play 22, 15 games just isn't enough but you gotta do what you gotta do considering this bloody drought. 9 wins to get in the finals seems so small. Oh well it will be an interesting year. Bring on the rains!!

Well you could always play in division one and get 18 games. Just a thought.:thumbsu:

Some of the commitees of the divvy 2 clubs would be wrapt. especially the ones that have 2 away games that have been scrapped. they will save quite a bit of money. the ones with 2 home games wont be too happy.

in my humble opinion,
surely 15 games is better than none at all.
if you can look at your draw you might see that you get away with only playing the top 2/3 sides once only.
if people are that worried that the season starts 3 weeks late just think how fit you will all be,some might even last the season out.

Just interested has there been any ramifications since Heidelberg have been forced back to play in the DVFL for the 07 season? I've got the feeling that a few clubs hold a bit of a grudge to them so be interested to see how the season pans out considering what they have said about the league....

I think everybody is happy that Heidelberg had to stay. It has given the dinosaurs down at dv house a foot up the a r se and will find themselves without a job in the near future. The only thing is that Trevor Barrot has something to prove now and is spending up. They'll be un beatable which is not good for the competition. I know down at panther place we are a few years away but were becoming very financial and think that we could rub shoulders with them in a few years if there still around. I dont think its over though another case will be put to football victoria at the end of the year for a transfer to the EFL.

bergers 19's team scrapped. so much for bringing players up threw the ranks and not buying talent!

What do you think we have been doing for the last year? The whole purpose of the EFL move was for the juniors but we robbed of that chance by fv. Dont tell me Bundoora don't buy talent, and is Vinnie still coaching? I hope so.
