Interesting that they switched on and came storming back once the situation was near-hopeless, just as they did after getting down by 40 against the Tiges. Clarko needs to work that trigger out, and modify it.

Geez you can tell how long you have been waiting for this win.

O'meara had a shit game but has been very good this season, Sicily is not a cheap stat accumulator at all. Burton is down on form, any Hawk would admit that, but far from limited. Most Hawk fans would agree on O'Brien, In our bottom few players out of the players that played today and is not going to be leading us in to the future. You also managed to leave out Hardwick, Impey, Howe, on top of some very young and inexperienced players like Cousins, Glass and Morrison that we need to see more of before we can see if they are going to make it or not.

Enjoy the win mate, the fact that you are busy just taking shots at the Hawks instead of enjoying a big win and a good performance is pretty average.

1st Quarter: Strict 7-man Aggressive Zone defense - HF running defensively.
Intent: Playing 5-10m attacking side of opponent (loose) and giving up the "over the back" kick looking to intercept and strangle delivery through the middle. Based on the concept you would win the contest in the middle, but we could at least apply pressure and force quick blind kicks forward.

Outcome: North cut us to ribbons by not only getting the clearance, but gaining 10m-15m before the long kick, making Hawthorn turn to defend, losing both player and ball in flight. Five goals were put on in a blink.

2nd Quarter: Weak 8-man Zone defense, with 3 Man-on-Man assignments. (Frawley on Brown, Mirra on Waite, Stratton on Ziebell).

Better, but relying on Glass, Morrison, Duryea, Burton for rebound left us way too defensive. At least stopped you scoring, but couldn't generate much run through the middle. Hardwick forced into defense later to provide better structure and release Sicily who was being well held.

3rd Quarter: Weak 7-man zone defense, with 2 Man-on-Man assignements. (Frawley/Stratton on Brown, Stratton/Mirra on Waite).

Closest to our 'normal' defense with Glass and Morrison pushing into midfield and it started to click. Adding pace to our midfield saw Shiels and Smith break loose and find space, but with no forwards it was left to Breust to play as a pseudo FF. Unlucky not to be closer at 3/4 time as Goldstein was clearly stuffed. Hawks lost Shiels, Kangaroos lost Higgins and it slowed the game right up.

4th Quarter: Ball didn't spend much time in Hawthorn defense, as they peppered the forward 50m with aimless long balls that Roughead and TOB couldn't get near. Thompson, Tarrant and ? (younger guy) were immense whilst Daw completely blanketed Roughead.

I think this game showed neither team is really finals quality with long periods of ineptitude, but in such an even year both could end up playing in September.

Ziebell (who was giving Sicily a bath) had to go in to the midfield rotations and the forward line lost potency.

As for Burton, he chose to bump rather than tackle, which caused a head collision that resulted in a player being knocked out and taken to hospital.

The first frame shows him lining up Higgins with his shoulder. He is gone mate. No parole. Period.

He knew he was instantly too. Never seen a man look more guilty.

Have to disagree here if you looked to the Lockett end then around you can see a wave of blue and white. It was around 65/35.

Not true. Mark Lecras was found not guilty for a head clash that put a GC player out of the game with concussion.
