Did We Write Off Hawthorn Too Soon?

If anything its the Kangas who were written off 'too soon'

I think people judged us by our form line for the last two years which is fair enough, but we did have a few really bad years on the injury front. I think we were always going to be better if we had a better run with injuries.

Our midfield balance is a bit better this year, Swallow and Gibson in the side plus Ziebell in the middle made it tough for us to cover the opposition on rebounds, even though Hartung has his limitations I think he significantly improves a major weakness we had, also Anderson in career best form has allowed us to push Ziebell forward so structurally we have a different look in the middle.

The test is going to be how we cover the loss of Higgins, can't see him playing next week with the kind of knock he got, we are going to have to bring a kid in that isn't going to give us his kind of ability, but the true test is adversity, we will need some of the fringe step up.

It was a legal bump and a clash of heads.

So what happens if a player runs in to lay a tackle on someone standing upright and they clash heads, should that be weeks as well?

Good question.

And one that again highlights the AFL's ridiculous 'ban the bump' policy.

To answer your question, I would imagine that it would considered an 'accident' and no case to answer. So same result, but with a tackle = Ok. Same result but with a bump = Weeks.

Which again begs the question - is the head really sacrosanct? Of course it isn't.

It's just ridiculous.

Here's some more tinfoil for you mate.

You had an ugly look at the future today, your next tier is nowhere near as good as you think it is, and you lot have been getting high off the smell of your own farts.

O'Meara: 18 disposals @ 56% & 1 clearance, Sicily is a cheap stat accumulator, Burton is limited, O'Brien is useless, and then it drops away from there!

You're a mediocre side, and you're falling. That's it. Deal with it..

Loving seeing fans of teams like North potting the Hawthorn side/list. Hawthorn at its lowest ebb in a long, long time is still superior to North. North have not finished above Hawthorn once in the last decade. Your side had managed to win jus twice in it's past 12 attempts against Hawthorn.

You guys were great yesterday and Hawthorn did not pay you enough respect but I am confident our 'mediocre' side will again prove superior over the course of the season. This mediocrity has come off the back of one of the most successful periods ever, meaning restricted access to talent. What's Norths excuse?

North have won 10+ games in 10 of the last 12 seasons.

I’d say that’s a pretty good one.

It threw out our balance.

Ziebell (who was giving Sicily a bath) had to go in to the midfield rotations and the forward line lost potency.

As for Burton, he chose to bump rather than tackle, which caused a head collision that resulted in a player being knocked out and taken to hospital.

The first frame shows him lining up Higgins with his shoulder. He is gone mate. No parole. Period.

Fail.

Hawks will be fine, I think most of the bagging comes from people who dislike them for whatever reason.

The absence of Puop and Rioli was so much worse than I was fearing yesterday. The Hawks were simply unable to keep it inside their f50 in the first half and on top of that, North were kicking it perfectly. Every attack ended up in an easy chain of possession from defence to a leading Brown/Waite. I mean, we had 3 scoring shots to half time.

Clarkson managed to get things under control in the 3rd quarter but when you are 10 goals down at half time, everything needs to go right (the bounce of the ball, some one sided umpiring, some poor play from your opponent) and it didn't.

This is not the Hawthorn team they will be fielding in August/September. If it is, they won't go too far.

Put your dick away son. What is with the constant attitude? I thought Bay 13 was where dicks went to be belligerent.

If you have a BMI under 30 you can walk from the MCG to Etihad. People who make excuses for not going to Etihad are a joke. Wasn't that long ago Hawthorn played at Glenferrie, Collingwood at Victoria Park, Richmond at Junction Oval...
Hawthorn left Glenferrie more than 40 years ago.

Anyway, regardless of what you think of people who chose not to go to Etihad, it is a reality.
Using my crew as an example...
We have 12 reserved seats for home MCG games. There are usually 7 - 10 of us at most games. Away games @ MCG similar numbers. We have been Gabba, Gold Coast, Tassie, Sydney six times and Adelaide four, so we are pretty dedicated fans.
None of us went yesterday, for various reasons. Some like to drive as they have very young kids. This is more difficult and expensive at Etihad. My dad will only sit on level 1 at games but refuses to buy tickets so he hardly gets to Etihad. I simply don’t enjoy going there. Many Hawks fans agree. It is why we stomach playing games in Tasmania rather than Etihad.
My Pies wife feels the same. Her crew calls it ‘the Toilet’ and they also hardly go.
It might be a great stadium, but relative to the experience of going to the MCG (getting there and the whole atmosphere in the precinct before, during and after the game) it just doesn’t work for us.

Classic double standards. You must be immune to the bullshit that spews from your own supporters.

It might be time for some reflection.

Kid yourself all you like mate.

If he walks, Lindsay Thomas certainly walks.

Gone. Absolutely gone. There is no doubting his intention in that still frame.

And
can't attract free agents :(

Didn't you see the bloke that kicked 3-5 against you yesterday?

can't buy players :(

Billy Hartung: 18 disposals, 3 clearances and a goal.
Jaeger O'Meara: 16 disposals, 1 clearance and 0 goals.

Jed Anderson: 15 disposals, 5 clearances, 9 tackles.
Tom Mitchell: 19 disposals, 3 clearances, 6 tackles.

Then: Ben Jacobs, Shaun Higgins, Marley Williams.

can't attract father sons :(

Didn't you see the bloke in the number 11 jumper?

Your post gets my nomination for dumbest post in this thread.:thumbsu:[/QUOTE]

No I see it. All teams have a few who like to act all belligerent and overly aggressive. Case in point.

There seems to be a significant element of very stupid millennial's associated with you lot.

I took great pleasure in calling ones bluff yesterday. Very enjoyable stuff.

Let's just say he shat himself.

The old "one man's trash is another man's treasure".

You are a like the sad man on Antiques Roadshow who turns up with a re-print of Dogs Playing Poker..... "it has been in our family for twenty years and we like it"

No priority picks.

?? Priority picks were all but abolished years ago - how is that an excuse for continued mediocrity for nearly 2 decades, right up to now?

and whilst I know that was a swipe at Hawthorn - Hawthorn's net gain from priority picks was Lance Franklin and Beau Dowler. Hawthorn won 2 flags with neither on their list and another with Buddy used as a decoy. That nearly matches North's entire history of 'success'.

This post is my favourite. Not only are you proud of picking up players that couldn't get a game or were delisted from a superior club (to continue North's long history of being bent over by Hawthorn at the trade table), you go and compare them to players vastly superior to them in every way.

It's almost like your trolling North.

Next you'll bring up Jon Hay and compare him to Josh Gibson or something.
