Going to come off as an arseh*le after this post, just wondering how much is 'enough to give' ?

I've donated some money, as have my parents. Where i am concerned now is, how many more people will be promoting for donations (via tv/radio) or go door knocking ? We've given what we can now, but i don't want to look like a right royal ******** for not donating more (if more people come knocking on the door for more donations).

From December through to January i had a major cleanup around the house, giving my unused (but still in top condition) belongings. Gave away a number of shirts, childrens books and other toys. I don't have anything to give, what i could give them.... i don't want to be labelled as someone who is just giving away their rubbish.

Might be an idea to ring one of the numbers provided in this thread & ask them what kinds of things they desperately need, but i would suggest dropping off ordinary/simple stuff like nappies, baby powder, shaving cream, razors, toilet paper, tooth paste, blankets & towels to your nearest CFA.

I won't be donating to anyone who comes door knocking as you never know if they genuinely work for the red cross etc.... also i was quite surprised when i went through the check out in coles last night on the way home from work as the check out chick asked me if i would like to make a donation. I already told her i had donated blood in the afternoon & a couple of hundred dollars to the commonwealth bank.

Coles will be donating all profits they make on friday. So everyone, if you do your shopping on a Wednesday/Thursday, leave it till Friday and buy all you can.

On Facebook, there is a concert being organised as we speak.

As at 7.00pm on the 10th February, the Fund had received $30.4 million from over 166,000 website and phone donations, with governments including the Victorian Government and Federal Government and corporates pledging additional sums. Donations are still continuing to flow in.

Heartening eh? :) The level of care everyone is showing is nothing short of brilliant and the best part is, it's only going to continue, would be nice however if the TV networks DID do something other than make a tidy sum off of their telethons.....

Yeh it is. It's amazing how we've become one. I guess it shows the true spirit of the country. When the chips are down, we stand up as one.

Donated £20, so just over $40 would love to give more but cant afford it.
Seeing pictures in The Sun today was terrible, i think some papers here in England are going to set up donations to send over aswel :thumbsu:

I'm in WA at the moment. Does anyone here know if there's anywhere specific where they are asking for blood to send to Victoria?

Clood Bank has said that their pretty sticked up and for peopl to stop coming basically.

Donate in WA fo the purpose of donating though as it's good to do.

I just hope there is transparency as to how these millions will be spent.

Huge amounts of the Asian tsunami money was absorbed into and diverted elsewhere by Red Cross and World Vision.

Hopefully all this money is pooled into some sort of trust account and spent wisely and promptly to help those people suffering most.

Not holding my breath though, millions of dollars and people generally don't mix without some sort of corrupt activity.

Also it seems every shop has set up a basket and if you don't throw your change in the basket you get filthy looks.

This is the other point i was going to raise yesterday, i've already donated as much money as i can. In the future when more people either door knock, stand around at shopping centers with tins/buckets OR inside shops themselves - i'm going to look like a right royal bastard for not giving any more .

I'll be doing a spot of shopping at Coles on friday, then heading to the RSPCA to drop off some stuff for pets but other than that i can't do much else.

If you have given what you can, you have nothing to feel bad about. I won't be giving to any tin rattlers etc as I am better off giving via work as they match dollar for dollar. Also if I give officially ie to the red cross it is tax deductable and I just up the amount I give by the tax refund I get.

Everyone has there own way of giving and their own reasons. Some can't afford to give anything and thats fine.

PS one of the girls where I work had a caravan she was going to sell and instead she donated it. Amazing.

Just received through on email:

"Bushfire Housing http://bushfirehousing.org/, an online tool to facilitate the pairing of those that are homeless due to the Australian bushfires with those that have room in their house, a vacant rental, newly purchased investment property or holiday home they wish to offer as temporary accomodation."
