Div 1 Tips

Spot on, same for me !

Is going to be a good old fashioned Olinda day this Saturday. I've been waiting a few years for this, cant wait !

So it is going to be about 1 degree cooler than Warburton then:) Should be a cracking game as Warburton is trying to cement itself deep into the top 5 and Olinda need a win to get their season back on track. Who is going to be more desperate in the snow?

Couldn't have written it better myself !

Monbulk 12 points.. conditions and home ground factor in

Mt Eve 21 points.. same as above but after last week are flag favourites

Warby 30 points... looks to have let a game slip last week after being in control, bounce back

Upwey 1 point.. ok i have picked them every game. surely the mighty tigers can win at home this week?????? upset??

Worri 2 points... not confident in this .... but not confident in any of them

This season sucks!
who would of tipped no undefeated side in round 4, worri and upweys horror start, olinda on the bottom and wandin all stars improv.
The ladder sucks.
monbulk on top, Olinda on the bottom and everyone squeezed in between. You lie if you say you picked that.
GF sides?
NFI.
The Wall, your a freak. how did you know the upwey result?
Anyone pick 5?

The team that gets relegated this year will be comforted by knowing they will win the Div 2 flag by ten goals the following season. The gap between the two divisions has never been wider.

Your not wrong V8. What a season of upsets. Things may settle down a little after the break when a number of teams get back injured stars.

Probably the biggest upset of year was healsville by lots over mt eve. What happened here. Any reports from game. Did healsville just get it together or did mt eve suffer injuries during game? Strange result

Probably the most positive thing you have ever said on the forum Fingy! A sign of just how strong the league is getting as a whole as Div 2 is no weaker than at any other time in the last 10 years. The league should be very proud that there are 8 competitive teams in Div 2.

Ronnie how can you say there are 8 competitive teams in Div 2 this year when Yea, Kinglake and Powelltown are getting punished against the better sides in Emerald, Seville and Yarra Junction?

Big gap between top 3 and bottom 3 in Div 2, top 3 are playing some pretty impressive football from what I have seen.. Equally as good as Olinda from a few years back if not better.

All three would be smashed in Div 1. The gap has widened.

Classic division 1 mentality. Should be fun when one of the three clubs I mentioned above have a kick in first division and make finals.

Yarra Glen was a product of a very weak league last season. Like I said, if you bothered to read (mind you, sometimes I question your ability to comprehend the English language), the three teams I mentioned are playing footy as well if not better than Olinda did in their one season down in second division.

You know, the Olinda who played finals the following season in Division 1? Dolt.

Olinda were in Div 2 for what one season? They still had the nucleus of a great side when they went down and some outstanding kids coming through they also play a brand of football accustomed to Div 1. Seville, Emerald and YJ have been Div 2 for a decade and are totally unaware of the standard of football that is required to compete in Div 1.

Its more of a Div 2 mentality that theres no differance than the other way around.

In MOST lower leagues (Div 2 YVMDFL, Div 4 EFL for example) there will be a significant gap between the top teams and bottom teams.

My point is that is it good for the YVMDFL that the biggest margins in these games is going to be 80-110points, not 150 points plus. All of the clubs have put together reasonably competitive teams which isn't an easy job when you take into account the overall standard of competition and travel factor.

Being involved at Emerald, I for one wont be taking Kinglake or Powelltown lightly.

Go Yarra valley football I say.

As for Div 1 v Div 2: it is a stupid argument, impossible to objectively measure and best left to those with too much time on their hands.

Only 14 players from Div 2 in the Interleague Squad out of a toatal of 64. Pretty obvious what people think of the differance in standard.

.

Possible the reason as there isnt the big margins is that the best team was take out of the division and not replaced by a team relegated from div 1. Making the div more competetive.

ROUND 5 TIPS

Gembrook V Mt Evelyn - 21 Points. Both teams coming off losses last week. Brookers finally get their 2nd home game this week and with two losses for the season at 1 point and 4 points should be too strong.

Healsville V Olinda - 7 Points. Hard to tip this one. Both form lines are eratic. Healsville big winners last week and Olindas young list will see them hot and cold. Healsville just because they are at home.

Warby V Monbulk - 30 Points. Clash at the top of the table. I think Warby at home are 5 to 6 goal better side. Home ground reasons, i think they will win by around the 5 goal mark.

Wandin V Upwey - 18 Points. Talk of the top teams dropping off from last year but be very wary of quality teams with quality experienced Div 1 players. Upwey and Woori will both have a fair say in how the season pans out.

Yarra Glen V Woori - 55 Points. Could get ugly. Yarra Glen improving but still a way off a quality well drilled unit like Woori. See above re quality Div 1 players.

Big round that will see the 5 taking shape before the break. Some teams could lose touch with 5 with losses. I think a few teams really looking forward to the break. Good luck all teams. Derby any stats for the round?

Gem v Mt Evelyn - Gembrook at home. Could find out who are pretenders.
Heals v Olinda - Heals @ home. V good last week.
Warby v Mon - Warb @ home. Ditto for pretenders.
Wan v Upwey - Wandin improving, but so is Upwey.
Y Glen v Worri - Worri coming good.

If woori, upwey and gembrook win it starts to look like last year all over again.
