My Tips

Hmmm tough one.

Will Thornton under a new coach and without Pup get up and win their first for the season?

T-E for me

The Lakers v Emerald. Wow. Emotion and last years form would say the Lakers.. Should be a good match. Lakers

In fact its home sides for me the whole way through.

Belgrave at home especially since Yea have had their pre season interrupted.

Powelltown - can they do it? Get off to a winning start? I hope so their my pick.

Olinda v Seville. Could be anything this game. Olinda at home for me, just.

Tips for round 1 in what again shapes up as a very even division in 2009.

Certainly some clubs will improve, namely Seville and Kinglake who have both recruited well.

My tips are;
Kinglake in a cracker against Emerald with possibly one of the biggest crowds ever seen at Kinglake in attendance. Emerald will be top three this year again in my opinion.

Yarra Glen over Thornton Eildon in what shapes as another cracker. - Yarra Glen have recruited well and should beat the Boners just - the loss of key position players at the Boners may hurt.

Belgrave to have a win against Yea first up. Both teams may struggle in 2009 with the Magpies suffering from an an exodus of players - will be an even game but home ground advantage just tips the scales in Belgrave's favor.

Powelltown over Yarra Junction at home. Both clubs have recruited well but the way the Demons finished 2008 gives them the nod over the Eagles. Watch out for the new Demons coach and a couple of players he has brought with him, they will make an impression in the competition. Yarra Junction will definitely improve in 2009 with a new coach and a number of new players.

Olinda FC in the final game of the round over Seville. Both teams will be there abouts this season but with a number of quality players returning from other leagues to the Bloods this season they may be the team to beat. They also have a number of quality youngsters as well which augers well as the year progresses. Watch out for Seville this year, they will improve significantly after last year really struggling.

Yarra Glen (will be a top 3 side this season)
Emerald (as an Emerald player I think we have a very, very strong chance of winning this game)
Yea (this could go either way, both look like they will struggle this year)
Powelltown (they will improve a lot this year)
Olinda (people shouldn't write them off, word it they have a lot of old players back and they will be hungry)

Yarra Glen (tough one to call early, should be a good game)
Kinglake lot to play for, and i think emerald will be on the recieving end.
Belgrave - just cause its at belgrave
Junction - very different looking team to last year, should be a belter up at the mill
Olinda - should account for seville after coming back to 2nd div

good round of games to start

Thornton Eildon - I don't think by much
Kinglake - could they be tipped against? A lot of good players going out of the Emerald side
Belgrave - despite being decimated, I doubt Yea will travel away better then they did last year
Powelltown - probably a close one here. The 'Town to continue their 'form' aginst YJ
Olinda Ferny Creek - just. Renaissance in Division 2 perhaps

All the home teams... how unimaginative lol..... kinglake vs emerald to be a cracker, good luck to all involved for the season

Maybe it has been overstated by the people that I have spoken to.
It is a very busy clearance list for your boys.
The club must be devastated by losing your best player by far (Williams) to close rivals Gembrook?

That is the problem with gossip, we've all heard a lot about many clubs and I'd put most of my money on it being lies. We have lost a handful of players (something you can't really avoid year in, year out) but most of the clearance list is full of reserves or coaching staff. In my opinion, we have lost 2 or 3 players that would have easily been in the senior side, but gained 4 or 5, not including three quarters of an U/18 premiership side coming up this season.

I wouldn't have called Williams our best player either, but that can really come down to opinion. We still have Wright, Steer, Cusworth etc. Plus a few slightly older (mid 20's) leaders came back to the club including a former B&F which is something a lot of people thought we were lacking in such a young team.

With all this being said, I think the game against Kinglake this weekend will be fantastic and I hope any of you not playing will come up and watch because it could turn out to be a game of the year. A few of the boys saw Kinglake play some practice games and word is they looked very solid and picked up a few recruits that are total guns. Should be an interesting and great season regardless and I wish you all good luck.

Yarra Glen
Kinglake
Belgrave
Powelltown - played against the coach in the NFL and he will be close to, if not, the best player in Divy 2
Olinda

Crikey, what a great response :thumbsu:

Going to have to set up some sort of spreadsheet to keep all this together

Not too late to add your selection.

Posting reviews of games

Would be great if we can get some posters to post reviews of the weekends games.

Are the selected teams posted on the YVMDFL site this year? I couldn't find them.

Yarra Glen (Thornton have some big departures and some undecideds but I don't know who they've picked up)
Kinglake
Belgrave
Powelltown
Olinda

not much banter here after the first round of div 2. Just about the demons coach, definetly there best player on the weekend, but he'll need people around him to give him a bit more of a chop out. Also wondering about the new players to the 1's team, if some one from powelly wants just give up a bit of info bout them.

How do kinglake look this year? anyone that actually saw the game, because going by the results they should be up and about
