Dixon,Danger or Treloar?

If we miss out on Treloar we are pretty much the LA Lakers of the afl... get rumoured all year but end up with nothing.
I am confident we will get him
LOl. Shaquille O'Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar ?? Both when in their prime. Later old guys like Karl Malone, Gary Payton, Horace grant, Dennis Rodman, Ron Artest plus many more.

Lakers have a rich history of attracting some very big names.

I wouldn't mind Motlop, depending on the trade+cost. I really feel like we are lacking that x factor in the forward line that we had in '11 with the Krak.
That potential that any time the ball goes to ground there could be a goal.

Krak kicked 35 goals from 23 games, 20 of them being wins. He wasn't the success we'd like to remember him as. Elliot is a much better goalkicker already.

I wasnt sure about varcoe but happy with his form
And perhaps Motlop could turn out the same. My point was our recruiters have a much better knowledge base than we do.
We operate on opinions (which is fine) but they operate on experience and knowledge.
Almost everyone on here had an opinion that Varcoe was a dud and that as a club we had f**ked up by recruiting him, our recruiters saw something different, as they should, because that's what they get paid to do.

I do agree but he would be worth alot more that varcoe

Motlop is a very handy player who would easily be best 18, maybe not top 5 but would be pushing into top 10 contention. I think everyone with a negative opinion on this board has formed it based on that one incident drinking a beer at a local footy match.
As an outside player his form has also suffered as Geelong is dropping down that ladder

I've seen a lot of Motlop's play footy from state leagues in NT to AFL and I wouldn't touch one personally. We all talk about culture and Buck's building a team about guys with commitment to the club, Bucks and this, that and everything else and all of sudden a Motlop name wanders in here.

This one incident is just one incident we've heard about. I'm not going to say much more on this except IMO this would be a bad move for the club and current players.

So you are saying Motlop is a Total Flog and he is more Likely to be out of the AFL in a Few Years?

I only watched a little of the game against North and his attitude didn't look right.
Sniping and subtle head high tackles etc.
Love his break away pace, need his head to be right though.

I've no doubt Motlop can play football. My issue is his commitment to the club, teammates and the game and when the Club has gone to so much trouble to remove influences during Buckley's transition, it just makes no sense to me.
His brother was nearly banned from the NTFL for life 12 months ago and got of on a technicality, IMO his other brothers weren't much better regarding commitment to each of their clubs.

Massive talents unfortunately gone to waste.

So another Typical Motlop?

I just think we've made a conscious decision on which path we want to head down as a club regarding ethos and standards and it would floor me if Daniel Motlop fitted within that profile.

If that's the case I'd rather Bennell

So this disliking you have of Motlop actually has nothing to do with him, just his brothers correct?

There are similarities whether you choose to see them or not.

The numbers touted around that Motlop is asking for is between the $500k - $700K mark from the Cats board - are we really thinking about paying a guy that sort of money who is yet to provide any level of consistency and likely to be more a bad influence around the club than positive?

I guess not many people in here saw his game Saturday night against the Roo's because that's what you'll get every second/third outing.

i would go with a young developing gun.. you want to make moves based on where we are as a premiership threat. if we are going to threaten next yr by all means dangerfield is clearly the best trade. how has dangerfield been with injuries.. can he play on until say 33-35 yrs of age ala hodge mitchell burgouyne.. if he has been injury free id go balistic on him and snap him up.
