This is true but its all a bit moot for finals - they are the AFL's little cash cow. The participating teams get something out of it no doubt, but it's not like a home game where the home team gets the gate takings etc

Didn't realise that, interesting. Admittedly if playing at home in front of 40k gives you a higher chance of say making the Grand Final, I'd opt for that.
In saying that, having the MCG as a second home is a pretty nice advantage for the Cats in general, especially against interstate sides + being the venue of the Grand Final.

Well if Geelong the following things happen come September 2025
Geelong Finish 1,2,5 or 6 and get drawn to play Gold Coast,GWS then yes to Home Final but if other interstate clubs get to host in the 1st week then Geelong will play at MCG due to contracts that are in place.
But remember Geelong if you do get a game to host in the Finals not all Geelong Fans will be able to get a seat due to whoever you play getting seats so instead of it been 99.9% of the crowd for Geelong could be a 80% crowd and let’s not forget the last time you had a Final at your ground.
Im happy with 80 percent.
Last time we had a final we lost hawkins before the game, had no fit ruckman, played chapman as a sub and had 3 players get injuries during the game.

And no I don’t see any other person from any other club asking for extra home games. GFC is morally abhorrent.

Another 20 years or so of urban growth and Geelong might be considered part of Melbourne. Rosebud is considered a seaside suburb of Melbourne yet is further from the MCG than GMHBA is

5*(MCG tenants )/17(other clubs) = chance per week of playing an MCG tenant club
x 1/2 (chance of being a home game for MCG tenant)
x 22 games that aren't bastardised gather rounds
= 3.235 games a season- but probably closer to 4 due to accommodating the derbys in the other states.
* Essendon is a half tenant, but would probably ask to play Geelong at the MCG.

At least Essendon have gone down there in recent years unlike Collingwood.

That's the final piece of the puzzle for the Cats. They've gotten to a point where every club other than Collingwood has played an away game at GMHBA in recent years.
